  1. Overall all entries are evaluated as OK-. Musically I prefer CYP and NED over UKR every day though…

    #18 CYP
    #19 NED – losing ground
    #24 UKR –

  2. Three songs together that get my undivided indifference.

Cyprus: such a generic Eurovision song. It is musically desolate and lyrically demonstrates a woefully poor grasp of the concept of gravity. I bet there’ll be semi-nude men with oversized drums.

Netherlands: pure Wilson Phillips, as Hjallis has already commented. Dense vocal harmonies are welcome in a song contest and can really set apart the properly talented singers, but again, the song is too generic to be an effective vehicle for such skills.

Ukraine: also a fairly generic example of its genre, one that has become increasingly common ever since Finland made the case for rock, but never with as much style.

Ukraine gets my vote only because I like the style more than the others. The songs are more or less equally generic. A triumph of style over content then.

  3. I genuinely dislike Cyprus this year and the fact they had to “pay” for a Swedish song which is so average makes me even more mad.
Ukraine plays the same average card but in a different genre. The chorus in particular is so annoying it hurts. Some extra points for stage presentation, but still…
My vote goes to the Dutch trio for reasons having to do mostly with vocal harmonies rather than the song itself.

  4. Cyprus has a generic song that Hovig seems able to sing live quite well. Ukraine has a decent rock proposal also well sung live. The Netherlands brings to the table a song built to show how very well these young ladies sing live. The lyrics are vaguely cheesy, I know, but what they do is very difficult and risky. I like it very much. The Ducth trio gets my vote.

  5. Tough group here, I needed a few listenings to decide. Cyprus is not bad, but it’s quite generic and average rock song, it gets tiring fast. Netherlands is quite pleasant, with very good voices, but the song goes nowhere in the end, it’s kind of a mess really. Ukraine has an interesting song, I wasn’t sure I liked it the first time I heard it, but it gets better with each listening, now after a few listenings I really like it, so Ukraine gets my vote here.
