The host city of the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 is Düsseldorf!

German broadcaster NDR will not have to worry about renting the venue. According to “Der Western”, the hall will cost a symbolic 1 Euro! According to the mayor of Düsseldorf Dirk Elbers, they are expecting 140 million euros of revenue due to the Eurovision Song Contest, which will cost about 25 million.

The city: Düsseldorf

The city offers 23000 hotel beds and hotel ships on the Rhine. The airport is very close to the venue and an athletics venue right next to the Esprit-Arena can be used as the press center for over 1500 journalists. A couple of experts had shown their admiration at the technical possibilities of the Arena.

Düsseldorf  is the capital city of the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia and center of the Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan region. Modern Düsseldorf is an important international business and financial centre and also renowned for its fashion and trade fairs.Culturally, as a city by the River Rhine, Düsseldorf is a stronghold for Rhenish carnival celebrations. Every year in July more than 4.5 million people visit the city’s Größte Kirmes am Rhein funfair.

Even though only among the ten most populous cities in Germany by population within city limits, Düsseldorf ranks as one of the country’s five global cities. Düsseldorf has over 530.000 inhabitants!

Good luck to all non-German speakers pronouncing the name of our host city (German pronunciation: [ˈdʏsəldɔɐf]) and be welcomed to Düsseldorf, Germany next year!
