Webmaster rating

“It’s a pretty nice song. You have to smile and start moving when you hear it. The message behind it is not bad either and fits our times. Unfortunately people will think this is a plain joke entry and the voices could be better as well”

The Artist:

Homens da Luta (english possible translation: The Men of the Struggle) is a Portuguese improvisational comedy and musical street show group, composed of Vasco Duarte (Falâncio) and Jel (Neto). Their songs are a parody of the songs sung during and after the 1974 democratic revolution, and the characters played are caricatures of the revolutionary singers of that time. They often use the term struggle to invoke the slogans that became famous during the revolutionary era, such as “a luta continua” (“the struggle must go on”). Homned Da Luta had also participated in the 2010 Portuguese national final, but had to be disqualified as their song had been release before the deadline set by the EBU.

The Song:

Their song “A Luta é Alegria”  could be translated into “The Struggle is Joy”

The Lyrics:

The struggle is joy

Sometimes you find yourself feeling blue
Sometimes you find yourself feeling wary
Sometimes you find yourself feeling alarmed
Sometimes you find yourself feeling despair

By day or by night
The struggle is joy
And the people moves forward shouting out on the street!

Of little use is the belt always tight
Of little use is nagging around
Of little use is always looking sullen
Of little use is anger for helping you.

By day or by night
Struggle is joy
And the people moves forward shouting out on the street !

Bring on the bread, bring on the cheese, bring on the wine
Come old man, come young man and little boy

Come celebrate this situation
And let us sing against reaction!

Bring on the bread, bring on the cheese, bring on the wine
Come on old man, come on young man and little boy

There are plenty of people warning: watch out
There are plenty of people wanting to shut you up
There are plenty of people leaving you resentful
There are plenty of people selling you air itself

By day or by night
Struggle is joy
And the people moves forward shouting out on the street !

Bring on the bread, bring on the cheese, bring on the wine
Come old man, come young man and little boy

Come celebrate this situation
And let us sing against reaction!

Bring on the bread, bring on the cheese, bring on the wine
Come on old man, come on young man and little boy

  1. It´s true when people say that the song has no winning status, but it’s the people choice! The social disaster that Portugal entered is the cause for this victory! People had enough of this situation and they want to set a change! This is the first signal! Go Homens da Luta! Portugal support you!

  2. This song sucks…

  3. “o ultimo lugar ninguém nos tira”
“no one can taka us the last place”

  4. luta, luta , camarada luta….
    Portugal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. You are kidding me… What is this??? YIKES!

  6. Portugal is going to lose.
    The song suck!!!!!

  7. Children, watch and listen this video. And open your eyes.

    Thank you :)

    • Esse gajo: o Miguel Sousa Tavares, não passa de um frustrado reaccionário, demagogo, mau profeta, constantemente com prisão de ventre; olhem p’ra cara da criatura se têm dúvidas…

    • Miguel Sousa Tavares !?
FFS! This guy makes his living by speaking against the tide, no character at all. And his books, full of flaws and mistakes.
He is the embodiment of what is wrong with this country.

  8. What a crappy song !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. If it’s a crappy song… it fitts perfect to this Politycal Eurofestival.

For all the people who hate this song, a big THANK YOU for listen.

I’ll bet that the most big percentage of the people who hate it didn’t even listened the others….

Everibody is giving so much importance to this, that I bellieve they can achieve one of the Portugal best results of all times.

  10. VAI TUDO ABAIXO!!

Já era tempo de fazer algo pela eurovisão, se aquilo continuasse naquele registo imbecil, só restava chamar o fernando!!

  11. go gooooooooo ‘Homens da Luta’!!!!

you are killing many birds with 1 stone! some people are missing the point because they are not able to decode your message… but the ‘opinion makers’ who are barking up the wrong tree are mere social parasites who are dying of envy.

  12. Personally, i dont see how this song/performence is so popular, because, it kinda sucks…

…however :::dont shoot me yet::: i can see the political motivation behind it and can understand how the Portugese feel about it because of the current economic situation in Portugal just now :P

    • Imagine that Scotland was an independent contry and sends some guys with bagpipes and wearing the tradicional clothes locking alike william wallace with a song called freedom is joy. Perhaps some people would´t understand.
The important is that this song was chosen by the people to represent the people of Portugal.

  13. Thats the warst song……………..

  14. Thats the warst song…………

    • fuck off!!! if we send bad songs they are treated like crap, if we send good songs they are also treated like crap. so why should we give a fuck about what you fuckers think? england sends one of the worst pieces of crap i’ve heard in my life and they are still going to win just because “WOOHOOO!! its a song by blue and they are so hot!!!”. even if they sang 3 blind mice they would still win!!

Everyway That I Can, de Sertab Erener (Turquia)… entre muitas outras.

  16. for those who do not understand the message of the music of Portugal
we want a better world and a more just and solidary economy
    this is our fight

  17. This obviously is a big song for Portugal and as far as its political statement is concerned, the track is important…

But as far as Eurovision goes and the fact that 20 or so other nations in their semi will be purely voting on its musical content/performance, it is very unlikely that this song will get to the final.

Hope it galvanises some change within Portugal – that would be a better result than winning Eurovision!

  18. check out my new eurovision blog! http://www.nicksahlene.blogspot.com dont forget to vote, comment and follow!

  19. I like the music, but this entry is not so good as the songs from 2008, 2009 and 2010 !! I want Vania back !!

  20. PORTUGAL PERDEU!!!!!!!TOMEM E EMBRULHEM…COM QUE ENTÃO IAMOS GANHAR!!!LOOOOOOL
    “Dá-lhe Falancio!”(ironia)
