ET Premath 2024

It is time for our “Premath” contest! So let’s start voting on it and unite ourselves through music in this year’s Extravaganza statistical deliciousness that we call The Eurovision Times Premath 2024!

Our regular host isn’t here this year to reprise his role as Premath host, so I’ll be stepping in this year to make sure we get a Premath ranking nonetheless, even if at a smaller scale (only 2 weeks left before rehearsals). This poll combines the ranking of all the participating users’ top 10 songs in this year’s contest and will be revealed in a dramatic finish from the country that got the least amount of votes to the winner of this year’s Premath. This is the first part of two polls that will be held this season. The second one being the ET Aftermath, which will resume later this year after Eurovision has been held!

Now it’s all up to you how you wanna rank your top 10 songs, but with many live performances still at an early stage, we don’t know how it’s gonna sound or look on the ESC stage yet. So a moral guideline could be to try and rate according to the studio versions of the songs as it also creates a slight difference from the ET Aftermath, where everything from the song to the live performance in the contest is ranked. This is not a criteria, just a guideline, cause in the end it’s your personal top 10 that counts!

Everyone can participate, you can be an ET veteran or an ET newbie as long as you follow the rules!

The rules are simple: Send your personal top 10 songs from this year’s Eurovision (from 1-8, 10, 12) AND your alias to this email-address: artemismorgan@hotmail.com

Deadline: 26th of April 23:59 CET!

Reveal date: 27th of April, 18:30 CET!

Disclaimer: do not post your Top 10 in the comment below in order to keep it exciting, but you can hint at some of your favorites!

May the best entry win!

  1. Is it too late to beg them to send this “intimate” version instead?

Her voice sounds very sweet in the lower register.

  2. The US Senate overwhelmingly approved the 61 billion Ukraine aid package, this is excellent news. Planes carrying much-needed supplies are already on the way.

    • Very good news, indeed, but not enough in my opinion.

Sanctions against Russia have to be more strict, and should include much more than what they include now.

  3. Some VERY unexpected HIGH points from Australia AND Iceland to Greece in Eurojury. I’m pleasantly surprised !!!

    • So far 12 countries have voted for Zari (out of 37) which is pretty good (almost 1/3rd of the countries) given the song is not particularly jury friendly.

Top marks were given X 4 by ITA, SMR, ISL, AUS

Rest of the points came from CYP, BGR, MKD, SVN, ROU, PRT, CZE!, AUT!!

  4. Since negative commentary against Nemo and Mustii is the predominant norm on here I decided to offer some positivity against that tide of agenda-driven negativity. Nemo’s last pre party performance snippet as excellent as ever :)

  5. Although these things have to be taken with a grain of salt, the most surprising thing about EuroJury this year is how poorly Lithuania is doing. I don’t really understand why, because in my head it checks a lot of jury criteria. Slick production, modern beat, catchy, good live, decent vocals. I hope this is not a preview of what is to happen in the Final. It is important to note both Lithuania and Estonia last year also did poorly with EJ, and then finished 5th/11th respectively in Liverpool with the juries.

    • yes Lithuania is not a name I see a lot on these eurojury sheets. Question is how bad is it doing? How many countries have voted for Luktelk so far?

    • I checked again. Lithuania scored only twice so far (from Italian and Estonian juries). No top marks, which means they have a score ranging anywhere from 2 to 14 eurojury points ftm :o

    • Really hard to tell in a year where anything can happen. Even Germany gets a nod from several juries now and I think to myself: “What the hell are they doing different this time around to deserve this?” I think it was Morgan who posted that this could be another year for Lithuania where they might underperform – just like in 2021 and ’22 and I tend to agree, but the hopeful part of me wants Lithuania to be the dark horse of 2024 and at least come top 5. It ticks all the right boxes you mentioned for a successful outcome, so I don’t get why they’re doing so bad, either.

    • Unfortunately Lithuania has benefitted from much less hype this year compared to other male entries that are far beneath it in terms of quality. Perhaps in the era of Cha cha cha people are not looking for an actual song in Eurovision anymore.

    • I think the target audience of the entry is younger demographic and not the first representative of Moldova, France ’88 or a random member of Circus Mircus, because that’s what comes to my mind when people name “Eurojury”. Now talking about a prediction, seems like many jumped off the train and I don’t think it is memorable enough for someone judging 26 songs. Still, the recent Lithuanian acts have done much better than I’ve expected.

    • IT IS AN AGENDADRIVEN NEGATIVITY TOWARD ALL THINGS LITHUANIAN.

I think the song is a grower, sadly. I like it, so, so much, it is a cool club banger, but it might feel to insular for many viewers and listeners. I have probably found some peace in thinking this at best will pull a ByeAlex, although I should be a contender.

  6. Amazing ! Never thought it would work so well as an orchestral version !

      • Given your mockery of me above about the agenda driven negativity (which is factual on this forum) I would appreciate it if you interacted minimally with my posts.

        Thank you in advance.

        • I have to comment on this, so this will be my last post to you.

There’s a lot of bias in ESC with regards to the chances of certain countries. This I think is undeniable.

There are also agendas within the EBU, and while intention might be good, these agendas seem to fuel the support for certain entries. This, I think, is more debatable, and the EBU will naturally deny it, but I think with the measures taken the last 10-15 years (watershed being the Swedish hosting in 2016) it is quite clear.

I think a country like Lithuania faces an uphill battle in the contest. I think they have a brilliant song this year, but I remain unconvinced voters will pick up on it. Lithuania is not a ‘hot’ country, and the song does not touch upon themes that are riding the currents of today.

I think you and I disagree about the above. You have expressed as I understand you that there within the ESC voters, EBU and here on this board exists a bias against entrants who do not identify themselves as part of a majority gender or sexuality.

While I am with you that on social media there is a lot of evils taking place that are despicable, and that trans- and nonbinary members of our societies are facing immense pressure and receive a lot of hate, I have challenged your notion that there is an agenda against them within the ESC community. An agenda means that something is coordinated.

There is bias, yes, among voters, of course there is, they are people, some of whom are the same morons who send hate online. But it has to be said that many times ESC voters have been on the forefront of society quite simply because a song and performance was good, and at the end of the day, that was what mattered. You cannot in advance accuse the voters of having certain phobias without at the same time recognising that several entries over the years that were considered ‘controversial’ by conservatives in their day were welcome and celebrated in ESC.

I do not see an agenda here. No coordination to limit our trans- and nonbinary siblings. Compare it to the obvious EBU agenda there seemingly is to limit the contest from participation for poorer broadcasters, for instance.

You and me both fight the bias. I commend you for it. But you have several times accused this forum of coordinated ills and ‘agendas’. I thought you invited banter, but it appears you were looking for a pulpit to tell us off. This invite response, also from people that disagree with you.

I have reiterated several times that my problem with Nemo’s song is its construction, not its performer (who is sensational and has been so consistently). But it seems to me that you refuse to recognise that a musical opposition to the song presented can come from anything other than transphobia. Who is agendadriven here? Who is biased?

At the end of the day, I hope Nemo delivers live, I hope Bambi Thug does as well, the contest will be better for it, and it is the only way to silence the haters out there. I would love it for the Swiss to win. I don’t think you believe me though. And here we are. There’s nothing I can do or say in jest that can’t be misinterpreted as taking part in an overarching agenda.

          Bye, I wish you well.

          • You missed the whole point of agenda driven attitudes here bring against countries like Belgium and Switzerland (and Sweden, Australia etc) and not particular artists.

whatever these countries sent will be met with scorn here from certain users (I won’t name them it’s obvious who they are).

So yes we do have instances of homophobia and transphobia here BUT I was referring to country based biases as we have seen over the years that you have not been here from a large percentage of the userbase.

            Other than that goodbye.

  7. Biden has signed the Ukraine aid bill, more planes are en route. 🧭

    • Which means Ukraine could have been NATO member already if they are ready to go on a proxy war.

      • You can’t join when you’re in an active war. I’m starting to wonder if we/NATO should send troops, at least Air Force.

  8. Rudy Giuliani has been indicted by an Arizona grand jury for conspiring to steal the 2020 election. What a catastrophic comedown.

  9. The moment he ft her or Pan Pan represents Greece in the ESC I’ll become the happiest eurofan :)

  10. Yeah, enjoy the contest everbody, I am taking off for good. The talks I have immersed myself in here are not doing anything good for my mental health. Enjoy the contest and I am sorry for having been the dick that I tried to not be. Bye.

  11. Less than 48 hours before rehearsal kick in and I am extremely busy. Hopefully I can find time to follow and also check the Premath, which is bound to be much more open than previous years.

    • Dear Shevek, I wish you and everyone in Portugal a happy anniversary, 50 years of democracy.
I’m actually in Funchal right now, I came here because of my work 2 weeks ago and I will stay for another 3 weeks, and then I’m going back to Tenerife.

If only some other countries (read Spain) had made such a clear cut in the transition towards democracy.

Portugal is a progressive society of serious and hardworking people, dedicated to democracy, and once again I wish everyone all the best.

      • Thanks, Goran. This is the first part of the celebration as far as I am concerned. The far-left parties, led by the Communists, tried to create a soviet-related “democracy”, but, thankfully, they were stopped by the November 25th movement in 1975, led by the Socialist and Social Democratic Parties. Few people like to face this fact among the current Portuguese left, including the current Socialist leadsership. True democracy was a result of the events that took place between these dates. :) Enjoy your stay in Madeira.

        • Thanks for the insight, I didn’t know that.

One can argue that even comunism vould be better than Estado Novo :-) but I do understand now that there were issues with democracy even after this date, until November of 1975.

You actually intrigued me here, so surely I will go and read about it.

    • Almost similar to OGAEs so far but with GRC significantly higher (switching places with FRA) and NLD in top 10 instead of ESP !

    • It’s impossible; it must be a joke.

She has been out of media for decades now. She continues to make new songs, but does not appear in public.

It really would be a news of the year in Italy, if it turned out to be true.
