ETSC 7: Discover the Draw!

ETSC – Every year, the summer is the calm after the storm so it’s the perfect time to resume the highly anticipated the Eurovision Times Song Contest! 42 of you entered for the July 2017 edition and a random draw will be made soon! Discover the draw as soon as it’s released!

Each summer, a good number of regular readers stay around for different reasons (they don’t get breaks from work or don’t go on holidays…) but there aren’t much news to keep us going. So the last few years we introduced all sort of games. The Eurovision Times Awards (Fridas) and the Douze Points Trivia Quiz kept us going in 2013 and Fridas have made come-backs the past four years. Three years ago, a lot of you asked for a fake Eurovision where each one of us would send songs and get to vote. And that was it: the Eurovision Times Song Contest, from then on known as ETSC.

We’ve therefore had 6 editions of ETSC, two in 2014: July 2014 and August 2014, both won by France; the third edition was held in July 2015 and won by the United-Kingdom; the fourth edition was held in Augusut 2015 and was won by Austria; the fifth edition was held in July 2016 and was won by Israel. Last August, the sixth edition was held and won by Denmark’s Blaue Blume with “Sky“. For more information, you can discover our new page dedicated to the contest, with its history, all songs participating and the rankings here. You can also find it by clicking on the “Specials” section of the site, in the top menu in the red box, just under the site’s name. “ETSC 7 – July 2017” will be officially held in Copenhagen and as for venue, it’ll be the Koncerthuset! The logo for it is inspired by the winner again:

After a first round open for people to sign up with a country and send a song, we got 42 people in.  Songs will be revealed Tuesday night. In the meantime, to keep us busy, I made a random draw. I also made personal postcards for each entry which will be revealed along with the songs. Everyone can request to see their own postcards for now.

Does the draw really matter? Maybe so, after all #1 and #12 spots both got Top 3 in the first two editions! In ETSC 1 France won going as #12 while Norway was runner-up going as #1. In ETSC 2 the United-Kingdom went as #12 to achieve second place and Bosnia & Herezgovina finished 3rd going first! But in an online game, people get to listen multiple times to the songs, and in any order they want. So it’s quite possible to say that the draw is more of a gimmick than a true influence on the results.

So here’s the draw:

  1. I prefer it on Sunday mostly because it will be sooner :P but I’ll be around if it will happen on Tuesday as well cause starting today I’m on vacation and I’ll have a lot of free time. :D

  2. Morning, everyone! In the mood for a small quiz sponsored by the Italian delegation? :-)

What do this song from the Rolling Stones and this album cover from Roxy Music have in common? And why am I asking this? :-)

  3. Oh, cool, the draw’s out. :) Kinda wish I’d gotten 27, so it could tie in with my birthday, but 28’s good too. Sorry for the prolonged absence, family’s in town and there’s just been more activity than one would think this summer. Nevertheless, I took on the very welcome task of representing this year’s ESC winner (for the second time!) and I’d like to think I’ve found something really special. Can’t wait till you call can hear it!

  4. Wuu have no idea what the number 35 has in store for me, but lets goo! :D Am on a 90s festival rn and waiting for food! Lego! Waiting for Aqua, E-type and Sash to entertainment the stage! Oh the memories! 😃

  5. I must have lost a few pounds today under the blazing sun! Sunday or Tuesday? I won’t be able to follow the full show, so to speak, on both days, but I’ll stay for as long as I can. :)

Does anyone remember Framest from Supernova 15? They had the best song of that season, imo. I listen to it on a regular basis. Here they are singing Rybak’s version of ‘Amar pelos dois’:

This is the exquisite ‘Ziema’ (for those who do not remember it):

P.S. – Framest and ‘Amar pelos dois’ are the only two hints I’ll give you about the Icelandic entry.
