Slovenia – Last night was the first semi final of the Slovenian Selection EMA which saw eight acts compete for four places in the Grand Final next week. The second semi final takes place tonight completing the final line up
The four qualifiers were…
KiNG FOO “Wild Ride”
Nika Zorjan “Fse”
Sell Out “Ni Panike”
Omar Naber “On My Way”
Are Slovenia onto a good start? Is the best still to come in tonight’s 2nd semi final? Discuss below
Not a very interesting semi, I’m afraid. What is Omar doing here with that vapid song? King Foo and Nika have the most interesting proposals here. Congratulations to the qualifiers.
Those two were the best. The other two, including Omar, I wouldn’t mind not listening to again.
Maraaya is the songwriter of Nika’s entry..
Good Job!
It was a weak semi, the 2nd one is much stronger at least from the snippets. I cannot wait for BQT’s full song mostly !
Most of the songs were very well produced (and performed), but it doesn’t cover the fact that overall quality of the songs (music) was very low.
Many of the songs that we heard yesterday didn’t have any musical substance; they were simply bad songs in a good package (good production).
The outcome was expected, Omar Naber, Nika Zorjan and “Sell Out” were expected to qualify (I thought that the fourth qualifier would be Alya in staed of “King Foo”).
And, yes, the name of Nika’s composer is RAAY (not Maraaya; it is just the name of his band).
Raay is one of the best Slovene composers in recent years (he composed both 2014 and 2015 Slovene entries).
Well, I put “Maraaya” how they put on the TV when the song begun yesterday!
Really? I didn’t notice that…. Sorry :-( my mistake.
Maybe this time both band members composed it, and they decided to put it like that.
Usually, it is just Raay who composes the songs.
off topic : Go Svala !!!
It was such a weak semi. Not a single song/performance scored higher than 6/10 on my list. Tosca Beat were the most interesting ACT of the night.
Out of the qualifiers I kinda like FSE while I find Omar’s entry let’s just say irritating

As for Sweden, the lyrics to “Gotta Thing About You” are absolutely atrocious.
“Every time you bake I wanna eat cake”
“You know just how to make a big dog bark
You make me wanna wag my tail”
Oh my god
Hahahaha ! Epic!
Welcome to the world of teenage boys.
Girls, take notes and run!
These guys aren’t even attractive. I really don’t know what’s wrong with my demographic…. lmao
Hormones, Lina.
LOL And you are right. This threesome really can’t use credibly #swedishboy #boyfromsweden in social media.
I went through the longer MF snippets. MF remains firmly on plastic territory. :( ‘Crucified’ and ‘Boggieman blues’ are vaguley interesting and that is it. Songs sung by pretty boys will reach the final – there are 3 to choose from. Good luck!
I’ve already placed a bet on Robin going directly to the Final at 1.90 (without even actually listening to the song). The 2 min snippet is quite good though!
I sort of not dislike the verses, but the chorus and its orchestration are quite barren.
Yes, results-wise and orchestration-wise, MF has become quite predictable I’m afraid.
It seems like they mostly care for production values. I can enjoy many songs and performances but I’m missing a surprise factor!
You dare devil!
Jasmina Kara can be among the faves for the final, but I suppose that one is not for you as well..
I won’t be commenting much during the shows. Enjoy your afternoon and see you later!
I hope that we’ll get a thread for tonight. :)
It’s on its way :)
Thanks. :)
Singing Pants: It was a solid performance of their song which was fun i guess but not really my thing. It was also rather repetitive. 5.5/12
Singing pants is easily the weakest Ukrainian 2017 hopeful
3/10
Hulluna could you please provide the link with the translating comments for the show ? :)

Quite an estrogene explosion to kick off Ukraine. I like it!
and now yummy guys from O.Torvald….mmmm :D
Singer is quite cute, but I really don’t like piercings.
Slavko Kalezić has recorded the song titled ‘Space‘ in the capital of Sweden – Stockholm, earlier this week. Song was composed by Momcilo Zekovic, while Stefan Örn, Jovan Radomir and Johan Kronlund were responsible for production and arrangement.
Who are they?
For all the careful companions of the Eurovision these names mean. Stefan Örn was the composer of Azerbaijani winning entry back in 2011 (Running Scared). Also, his team, including Johan Kronlund composed the songs Drip Drop, When the Music Dies and Start a Fire. All of this songs were well-noticed at Eurovision.
O.Torvald-Time: Isn’s this arena rock?Anyway, his accent is atrocious and i also don’t like his voice. The song is nice, though and they may reach the final. 7.5/12
Seems I only missed the first song nice :) Let’s start :)
Time : I like rock groups, the performance was spot on but vocals and English diction were weak. Chorus could have been stronger too
5,5/10
You see the praise they get?Plus, the public seem to really like them.Hmm
Yes, I am not against. Stage show might have helped a bit. However I don’t believe it’s a safe esc choice.
I’m against all this praise, tbh. This is definitely not the masterpiece they think it is and his voice and accent were bad.
Boys with angst in their eyes playing very dated stadium rock. Well, 2017 there really isn’t any other kind stadium rock. They played well, but composition bad and singer wasn’t up to the task.
Payushchie Trusy – “Singing Pants” : The vocals were ok but the whole concept very tacky and the stage interpretation even worse imo. A novelty act mostly. Not a promising start – 3/10
O.Torvald – “Time” : A very decent rock-ish tune. Liked it quite a bit although diction could be better. The mock shooting part was bold and after that things took a turn to the more hardcore. Mixed feelings about that gimmick tbh – 6.5+/10
For anyone interested my feedback will be on the latest thread on FLDC as well if they do not appear here on time.
Nastia Prudius: The best so far. It’s not a great song but she is a really good performer. 8/12
Her song is as big mess as her hair.
Anastasia Prudius – “Flow” : I like her mostly, she is better than this song which just plodes along for the most part without getting exciting at any point – 6-/10
Flow : I really liked it ! Her lower notes were confident while she cracked a few times on high notes. Still a very competent Ukrainian hopeful. One of the best!
7,5/10
She reminds me of Alyosha
