Netherlands: TROS Rejected Anouk for Eurovision 2013

Netherlands – One of the biggest stars in the Netherlands has revealed today that she was rejected by the Dutch Eurovision broadcaster TROS. Through her twitter account, Anouk told her followers that she had approached TROS this year to represent the Netherlands in Sweden and that she has a “killer song” ready. However, TROS preferrs to go through with the idea to once more produce a national final with the help of popular television producer John de Mol. Anouk also said that TROS only wants to fill its schedule and does not really care about qualifying for the Eurovision final.

Anouk had her breakthrough in the Netherlands in 1997 with the single “Nobody’s Wife“. Form then on she had several hit songs in the Netherlands and in other European countries. The Netherlands failed to qualify for the Eurovision final for the 8th time in a row this year. Do you think Anouk would have brought the Netherlands back on track?

UPD: According to songfestivalweblog.nl, TROS has told them that Anouk has approached John de Mol and not them and that Anouk may in fact participate in the national final.

Here is her breakthrough hit Nobody’s Wife performed in 2009:

        • I agree. It is some sort of miracle that they even found a song that made a fantastic live performer like Edsilia look amateurish in 2007. In 1998 she did not come across as amateurish at all. Btw, that is the last Dutch ESC song I voluntarily listen to from time to time. No, not listen but watch because the song does not do it for me without Edsilia and her fantastic backings.

          • yeah i just rewatched Netherlands 2007 and gosh does it look lame in comparison to 98… I think 2004 was meant to come off as such and that’s why it qualified (6th of semifinal if memory serves me right even) but that was pure luck, since then Netherlands has really gone down the flame… I like 2008 but just coz it’s “cute” for what it is, and in 2008 semi she sure deserved a spot in the final, but that does not mean it’s accomplished either… apart from Anouk, is there a huge Dutch star that would make, without the shadow of a doubt, a great show, both vocally and visually (i mean regardless of the song here)? can Dutch esc fans help us here in providing names?

            • Is that Omar Faruk Tekbilek appearing on the video? I simply love him and his music! :)

            • yes it’s him!!! not a man for ESC btw… Oxi I watched one of his videos “shashkin” shot in Greece with a belly dancer

            • Hello my sweet Roselil! So glad to hear from you after so long! Yes, I think I know that video :)

off topic: 38 degrees outside this very moment; it’s getting worse: no cool weather till next Tuesday! :( …I don’t think I’ll make it :P LOL

            • Hello my dear, 38 degrees!!! ohhh you need to jump in the sea :) I dont miss hot weather anymore, just got sunburned here twice and with only 28 degrees :D at the moment we have just 18C and a bit of rain..

            • Btw, I’m so happy for you that Malmö has been chosen as the host city for ESC 2013 ;) :D

            • “just got sunburned here twice…”

I feel for you; I hate getting sun burnt too :)

            • thanks stommie, i do like them but i admit i’m not sure they would have done great at the Eurovision (but I don’t know how good they are live and I trust you on that department), anyway yes it would have given a new edge to the Dutch entries! one can hope!

      • There was nothing wrong with 2005, 2007 and 2008 which is when they should have qualifyed, TROS need to send Young R’n’B Contemporay artist Ralf Mackenback who is to date, the only artist recently who has claimed a Dutch victory (JESC 2009 Kiev) since they last won ESC. The Netherlands can qualify if they selected the right enterant and song, they manage to produce a great national final for JESC and have had some good results in this competion so it just shows if they can do well in JESC they can do well in ESC too. If the Dutch want to qualify they need to try and Back either Mano or Ralf Mackenbach!

  1. I’m not sure I like or dislike her, but if true, what she says would prove that TROS is indeed only caring for their own agenda, getting the whole “tv reality” show going on regardless of ESC and the overall outcome. I hope it’s not true, but based on what we know of the Netherlands in Eurovision, I think it can very well be!

  2. Anouk is one of the biggest stars in the Netherlands. Unbelievable that this is even open for debate at TROS. But they did it before. In 2009 there was contact between Anouk and TROS. But in the end they choose De Toppers. Madness.

    • This clip is not availabe in Germany.

She is wearing an U.S. flag t-shirt in the above posted live video. I hate such things with passion, as for me she can stay away just because of that. :S

    • I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t like it at all, and I’d fear a lot for the big name falling in esc (after all, Netherlands have absolutely no voting friends), but still, if a big name can attract people to watch and care for esc, the channels should be superly amazed and glad… BBC and Fr3 would die for that!

  3. anouk, is one of my favorite artists, i cannot believe that shi was not allowed to go in.. Netherlands would have got through for sure if it’s anything like her song ‘lost’

  4. That’s crazy really…TROS seems to have found the perfect recipe for the Netherlands to fail every year. Discussing about Anouk entering a nf ? It should be an internal choice all the way, they should be chasing her not the other way around…I do hope she gets a chance, she could get the Netherlands out of the loop they have fallen into. That said, The Netherlands are probably the 2nd country after Switzerland that have suffered the most from the voting system during the 2000’s IMO (and excluding the big 4 or 5). Some great entries (2004, 2005 – still unthinkable that this entry failed, 2007, 2008) miserably failed while they had potential…While in 2011 and 2012 they had the chance but the entries were not well performed live. Anouk is in with a good chance if they are smart enough to choose her that is. Think wisely !

  5. No to Aouk I’d love to see Ralf Mackenbach, Mano or LisaAmyShelley! I think its time the Netherlands Moderned up a bit and started sending similar entries they have sent to JESC, where they have done really well recently, 1st in 2009 and 2nd in 2011 no last or 2nd to last place finishes lol!

  6. i can;t at the Dutch broadcaster. anouk is the biggest female artst in the country, why would they reject her? obviously they want to promote other singers..?? or they want a national final to gain the big ratings like last year. Anouk would create a lot of buzz around Eurovision in Netherlands and it would unite the Dutch diaspora in Europe.

  7. John de Mol now also leaves the TROS because there so STUPID!
what i don’t get, is there are many talentshows, like the Voice of Holland(invented in holland, now every country has it….) X factor, Popstars etc. the people who win this competitions are actually good, but when the TROS organizes such thing, you get people like the 3 J’s or Joanne………there is enough taloent, but the TROS is just blind…..

  8. Well…wow what a Nice words here about the netherlands, no voting friends? I remember That last year You also has no voting friends did You? How many points did You get in 2012 by the way… ?
