Artistic Awards
Best Props & Gimmicks
The five entries nominated were:
- Estonia‘s lightning effects as doors opening and closing
- Lithuania‘s kiss(es)
- Romania‘s child
- Slovenia‘s missing violin
- Sweden‘s stick figure
And the Frida goes to
SWEDEN
“Heroes” was performed by Måns Zelmerlöw. Representing Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest 2015, it was written and composed by Linnea Deb, Joy Deb and Anton Hård af Segerstad. It finished 1st with 365 points. Nominated seven times overall in ET Awards 2015, “Best Props & Gimmicks” is its first so far! Congratulations!
You can click here to look at the full recommendations and nominations from last week’s article! There were 39 recommendations for 14 countries in the first round and 163 votes were cashed in an open poll, in exactly one week, among the 5 nominees. The complete detailed results will be announced once all polls are closed so in another week!
Now let’s watch the winning entry once more, for the stick figure:
I think this was the most obvious winner. There was no doubt Sweden would win and they did deserve to win in this category since the visual aspect of the performance is what played a big role into making “Heroes” a winning entry.
What Dimitris said…
A gimmick more than a song. Same as last year…
And the year before that, and the year before that, and….
What gimmick did EDF have, or Loreen?
LOL
Lena was the last winner without a gimmick … that is if you don’t count Lena herself as a gimmicks …
Personally I do. And so you can go back to Rybak or Dima, both with a gimmick. Bringing us back to Marija, with the hand hearts and the choice of performing in basket-shoes and glasses, it was on the gimmick side even though it wasnt the core of the performance. No, since Dana International, televote being a part of votings, gimmicks have always been a huge part of results.
I don’t agree because Lena has been exactly like she was on the Oslo stage from the first time we saw her in USfO, both on and off stage. And she’s been like that ever since. So I don’t agree because what we saw in Oslo wasn’t a stage act, and I wouldn’t call someone who is just a bit different a gimmick. A gimmick is intentional … but Lena really is like that. Otherwise I agree. Last winner without a gimmick (except Lena)? 2001?
yeah, 99-2000-2001 seem without gimmicks, just charismatic singers with a winning formula of a song
Do not agree on this! ”Heroes” is a catchy mainstream, but still good song imo, sure the gimmick helped the song lift, but you cant mean that the stick figure won the whole thing just like Conchitas beard. ”Rise like a Phoenix” is a better song then ”Heroes” imo and she would have won without the beard easily, cause her performance vocals and backdrop was amazing! So sure the gimmick helpes the song and performance, but it requires a professional artist with good vocals and a good song to really make a country win! Aka ”the whole package” :P
Plus, the Debs who wrote it also wrote “You” which already was 3rd in juries in 2013 :o In general, the Swedish song writing is what juries love (especially since so many Swedish writers and producers work in the USA and it’s what we’re the most used to listen to)
And the international jury in MF had a Deb song as their favourite both in 2013, 2014 and 2015 (while televoters disagreed in 2013 and 2014), and 4th in 2012. They have obviously found the mainstream recipe that works all over Europe.
right! now both g:son and the debs won esc, poor kempe :(
Poor Bobby Ljunggren too. He has 45 MF entries in total while Kempe only has 29. ;)
And I do like a lot of Bobby’s stuff! But Kempe came really close twice now :o
Yawn
…and debate on why Italy should have won instead in 3, 2, 1…
Oh I see what you’re saying ;)
I’ve always claimed that Måns’s stick figure comes from Fantasmagorie and I’ll keep doing so. ;)
Expected winner. It was obvious in this category.
Thank you wurovisiontimes
Expected and well deserved. The stick man was the appropriate and artistic visualization of an already very good song that would have won anyway.
Congrats :-) !
Agreed :D
Again, I can’t remember when my vote went, but there’s a good chance it was Sweden. Congrats, though!
Looking at pictures of projection art for my friend I found this, which looks a lot like the one used by Mans:
Not a copy, and its probably been done before anyways (simple white on black background). Both are still very good :)
Well deserved. Congratulations!
Expected!
Gosh, I was without internet for 20 hours. The people working on the gas and water infrastructure in my street accidentally cut sth. As if it wasn’t enough having to carry everything up a steep hill for 3 months because of the road works. Am I the only one to whom being cut off feels like being half dead?
I feel you 100 %. 30 hours without web connection on late april this year and I was running up and down anxious all day and hitting the road to find a suitable place with wifi.
Half dead is an understatement I am afraid..
Good winner, was a clever use of the animated stick figure enhancing the performance and the song! Congratulations Sweden! :D
In other news, Azerbaijan has banned the Guardian from the European Games. http://www.theguardian.com/sport/2015/jun/11/azerbaijan-bans-guardian-european-games-baku-2015
FYI, they have banned certain media from Spain too, only officialy TVE (paid to cover the “games” as part of our (soon to be gone am sure/hope..) government’s strategy to such kind of things.. :-( I won’t be watching myself…
Malmo is out of the race.I wasn’t expecting them to host it again anyway: http://esctoday.com/104689/eurovision-2016-malmo-drops-out-the-race/
At least Gothenburg is still in the race! :-)
Congratulations.
