Switzerland: National Final in 6 Months

Posted: June 14, 2012 by eurovisiontimes in Switzerland

Switzerland – Eurovision-fr.net reports that the Swiss national final for the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 will be held in 6 months. The “Bodensee Arena” in Kreuzlingen will once again be the venue for the national final “Die große Entscheidungsshow“, which is to be held on December 15. Once again, the Swiss will thus be the first to choose their Eurovision entry for 2013. Last year Sinplus were chosen with their song “Unbreakable” and they only missed qualification for the Eurovision final by some points.

Here is their song:

so, the esc 2013 season has already begun :)

I have liked many of Switzerlands entries over the years and hope they come up with a good song.
The one thing I think they should do is stage their final later, by time the ESC is upon us the Swiss song is 5 months old.I think countries should pick their songs in the same year as the ESC. I know by choosing their song in December means they have the opportunity to promote the song in other countries NF ‘s in Jan/Feb but a NF in December is far too early.

Great!I’m looking forward to it!I like the Swiss approach regarding esc the last couple of years(I also liked their song in 2009).Plus,this year they offered one of my favorite songs from the 2012 national finals season. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJGJQ-oEwdA&feature=related

And once again Switzerland will open the game :) !
I really like the swiss entries the last years (2010 being a minor exception although the live performance was good even there) and Sinplus non qualification consists one of the greatest esc injustices for me the last few years. I am afraid that a marginal qualification with a bottom 5 result is the best Switzerland can achieve though result – wise without a massive support from the juries (and even that is doubtful – Nadine’s exceptional ballad and interpretation last year were recognised by the juries but that did not help much televoting – wise..)

Mid December is way too early; imho, they should reconsider.
    Best of luck Helvetia!
Sinplus definately deserved a place in the final.
Overall, I wouldn’t actually say that Switzerland is among my fav esc countries. I like their 1960, 1989, 1993 efforts (I may be forgetting some other good ones too though)

  7. Marc Panozzo says:

Even though I was not a huge fan personally, Sinplus were the best choice for Switzerland this year. Chiara, as much as I liked her and her song, was far too nervous and inexperienced for such a big stage at ESC.

    Good luck for 2013 Schweiz/Suisse/Svizzera!!!

Honestly I much prefer the old internal selection system to their national finals. All acts since Vanilla Ninja have failed to qualify (as did the nf winners with televoting, btw) but at least from 2007-2010 we got representatives of the actual Swiss music scene. Problem was that most songs were written in a style that tried to integrate ESC clichés so consequently the final products sounded a tad too formulaic or cheesy. A misapprehension one could get rid off.
Their public pre-selections, on the other hand, were by far the worst in 2011 and 2012. No song stood a chance in hell to even come close to the final (apart from the winners to some extent). Well, *possibly* also Siegel’s song but they placed him 8th in favour of more ‘modern’ (lol) entries. I know Switzerland is a fan pet country but one should be realistic and admit that even a deaf understands that this format will not work in 2013 either.
