ET Premath 2024: The Results

It is time for our “Premath” contest! Soon, we will reveal ET’s final rankings before rehearsals, in this year’s Extravaganza statistical deliciousness that we call The Eurovision Times Premath 2024

Our regular host isn’t here this year to reprise his role as Premath host, so I’ll be stepping in this year to make sure we get a Premath ranking nonetheless, even if at a smaller scale (only 2 weeks left before rehearsals). This poll combines the ranking of all the participating users’ top 10 songs in this year’s contest and will be revealed in a dramatic finish from the country that got the least amount of votes to the winner of this year’s Premath. This is the first part of two polls that will be held this season. The second one being the ET Aftermath, which will resume later this year after Eurovision has been held!

Now it was all up to you how you wanna rank your top 10 songs, but with many live performances still at an early stage, we don’t know how it’s gonna sound or look on the ESC stage yet. So a moral guideline was to try and rate according to the studio versions of the songs as it also creates a slight difference from the ET Aftermath, where everything from the song to the live performance in the contest is ranked. This was not a criteria, just a guideline, cause in the end it was your personal top 10 that mattered!

29 people took part (34 last year) and this is what we got:

Congratulations to Lithuania for winning ET Premath 2024! It’s already the third time (out of 7 editions) that Lithuania wins our Premath contest! If in 2020 the contest cancellation meant that Lithuania’s victory stood, in 2021 Lithuania did not win Aftermath (France did). Will they manage to grab the Aftermath win for the second time this year?

  1. My Top 10:

    1. Lithuania 🇱🇹
    2. Croatia 🇭🇷
    3. Italy 🇮🇹
    4. Greece 🇬🇷
    5. Ukraine 🇺🇦
    6. United Kingdom 🇬🇧
    7. Norway 🇳🇴
    8. Switzerland 🇨🇭
    9. Portugal 🇵🇹
    10. Poland 🇵🇱

Serbia just misses out at 11th. Belgium, Azerbaijan, Armenia probably after that. The rest I don’t really care to rank or I don’t like outright.

Overall the last 5 editions, this year is probably on par with 2019/22, better than 2023, but worse than 2018/21.

  2. I’ve just arrived here. I have 7 songs in common with our top 10. Latvia, Portugal and Slovenia are my current top 3. Congratulations to Lithuania!

    P.S. – Thanks, Morgan!

  3. Personal pre-contest rankings:

    01. 🇱🇹 Lithuania
    02. 🇸🇮 Slovenia
    03. 🇨🇭Switzerland
    04. 🇬🇧 United Kingdom
    05. 🇭🇷 Croatia
    06. 🇳🇴 Norway
    07. 🇸🇪 Sweden
    08. 🇧🇪 Belgium
    09. 🇮🇹 Italy
    10. 🇦🇿 Azerbaijan
11th Portugal, 12th Serbia, 13th Ukraine, 14th Poland and 15th France, the rest I either don’t know what to do about (Spain, Ireland, Greece, Armenia) or dislike (Finland, Estonia, Austria, Australia and all the shaky girls).

I personally like this edition quite a lot, especially with a very strong Top 6 in my rankings and entries from 7th to 15th I quite like! I only prefer 2016, 2019 and 2021 to this one in terms of quality (but will an edition ever top 2021 anyway) since the new voting system in 2016. So 4th best in the last 9 editions :)

  4. Glad to see Greece taking risks and making it into the top 10 after several years of (imported) blandness.
I am surprised to see UK THAT high, Portugal to a lesser extent (my only 2 misses from my earlier PreMath Prediction – had Spain and Ukraine instead!)

2024 is a good edition for my taste : HRV, NLD, NOR and ITA is a stand out top 4.
I have a feeling that Belgium will lose many points in AfterMath and Greece has the potential to score even higher.

UKR, LTU, ARM have qualities, they would never miss my top 10
And in the end I deciced to give my 1 point to Serbia over SMR !!!

Just missing : ESP, CHE, CZE
Honorable mentions : SWE, LUX, PRT, AZE, UK, SVN

  5. Thans Morgan!

A couple of thoughts: this top 2 won’t be the top 2 in Malmö.
I hope Lithuania will be top 5 but I think they should be happy to reach the top 10.
My 12 went to the UK because of the pre-math studio version. I know it will be much lower after the contest.
I thought Croatia would be in this top 5. Why so underrated?

Here in the Netherlands the people have put Joost in their hearts. I think he deserves more credits. It’s not just a joke entry (like Finland).
I’m very curious about his stage act. I think it can go 2 ways: or it is so creative he will win big time. Or it falls flat and he will be 16th ……

  6. Thanks for doing this Morgan!

I have 7 in common with the top 10 but just 1 with the top 3. Ukraine, Sweden, Norway, and Poland missed out on points from me. Italy is the only favourite this year that I don’t care for…

Ireland and Serbia seem to be my biggest disagreements with ET too.

    1. Slovenia
    2. Lithuania
    3. Portugal
    4. Croatia
    5. UK
    6. Ireland
    7. France
    8. Switzerland
    9. Serbia
    10. Belgium

  7. Merci, Morgan! Hugs to Gregor, wherever you are, hope you’ll be back for the Aftermath.

At some point I considered these for my points: Ireland, the Netherlands and Poland. All of my points went to the top half. I nearly axed Austria, but this is very much in my DNA musically that it still clutched for dear life on to my top 10. Great to see so much love for Lithuania with probably their best ever entry. Norway second is such an ET choice. It’s very definite and knows what it is, and visually it is a moment that swoops you in whether you wanted it or not. And Italy completes a pitch perfect top 3.

  8. Hello, everyone!

I so much wanted to follow the reveal, as Premath/Aftermath is one of my favourite features on ET, but unfortunately I could not follow it entirely, just the beginning of the reveal :-(

Big thanks to Morgan for hosting the event.

    My TOP10 was, as follows:

    01. France
    02. Albania
    03. Spain
    04. Ukraine
    05. United Kingdom
    06. Austria
    07. Belgium
    08. Luxemburg
    09. Germany
    10. Finland

All of Albanian points (10 pts) as well as the single Finish point (1) came from me.
When I sent my votes, I was also (at the time) the only one who voted for Germany (2 pts), but the very last voter gave Germany additional 7 points.

Spain is back in my top 5 (after two years in a row spent in bottom 5, especially 2022 who I had dead last).

Denmark was at my number 11.
Winner Lithuania is at my number 22.

Regarding ESC poll favourites, I have Netherlands at 13, Croatia at 16, Italy at 18 and Switzerland at 25.

My 4 least favourite entries of this season are Norway, followed by Estonia and Cyprus, and I am very sorry to say, Greece.
