Slovakia: No entry for Düsseldorf

Slovakia – Bad news from Bratislava today: It is now 100% certain that we won’t see a Slovak entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 in Düsseldorf. The Slovak newspaper Topky reports today, that the public broadcaster has confirmed its withdrawal from the contest. “I’m sorry to announce that after taking all the circumstances and limitations into account, we will not take part in the Eurovision Song Contest 2011. We hope that we can return to this competition in 2012,” said Martin Kontúr, manager of public relations of the STV. This year’s Slovak contestant Kristina Pelaková expressed her discontent about the decision and told Topky that taking part in the contest was one of the best experiences of her life.

  1. At least they had good things to say about the contest and really seem like they want to return. I hope Austria doesn’t pull out for the umpteenth time if things don’t go well for them.

      • or nordic countries (Sweden 99, Denmark 00, Finland 06, Norway 09) or eastern ones (Turkey 03, Greece, 05) how can so many people forget the actual power of the North and South in modern esc ? True, the south votes for each other and the north too, but that’s what 5 countries? that’s even less than the number of actual balkan countries, let alone the former Soviet union ones, and yet 6 winners of the last decade were from these regions : true eastern europe can do better with each other’s votes but ANYONE can win if the song gets votes from EVERYONE that’s the trick to victory… And now with juries it balances things out and finally the West too got its victory ! (but we could also name many good places the West got : Ireland 06, Uk 09, Belgium 10…)

      • Technically we’re a Western and an Eastern country ;) (politically speaking) I mean we were part of the East bloc, that’s what makes it pretty funny to me , when the German media are writing about the horrible Eastern bloc, that gives each other points…

  2. and the country even had a poll about its participation and the people were really into esc : their two NF were amazing and I really wished they were back in, now we’re down to the nordic countries & internal choices for esc (turkey, bosnia, france) unless austria is great again (like in 2005)

    • I don’t know if it’s really the Slovak people that voted in that poll. I mean a lot of international fansites (including this one) have reported about it and many people froom outside of Slovakia (me included) voted in that polll.

      • still the contrast is very strong between Czech Republic, a very closed minded people (very against the E.U. they joined) and a country we thought would never have joined esc, did a bit, didn’t care much, died and left… Slovakia always feels bad about its much more powerful and richer neighbour and anything they can do better than them hey do : they’re also very pro European (took the Euro money) and will definitely try their best to join ESC again

  3. Horehronie was my favorite last year, but I don’t agree with what you said because that just shows bad Eurovision spirit. It’s money only and hopefully a temporary thing.

    • I am from Slovakia. We are also most people do not like, do not understand why it must be financed by state television and not the private tv kopu.Lenže here we do not know whether it is better to sing in English and Slovak. Even so, it wins either Britain, Italy, France or any country to which the ram is not much penazí.Ešte the final decision to see if anything changed

  4. correction:I am from Slovakia. We are also most people do not like, do not understand why it must be financed by state television and not the private tv kick. But here we do not know Whether it is better to sing in Angličtina and Slovak. Even so, it wins either Britain, Italy, France or any country to Which the ram is not much money. Yet the final decision to see if anything changed.
