POLL: The One That Got Away 2013 (Part Two)

Every year we debate on forums, Facebook and Twitter over what songs should be chosen for that year’s Eurovision Song Contest. Sometimes we agree with the selection and sometimes we don’t. Sometimes we come across songs we absolutely love only to be hugely disappointed when that country picks something else instead. It’s time to vote in the next phase of The One That Got Away!
This has happened to me a number of times of late and this never stops getting annoying…! The most recent poll of the week shows that Melodifestivalen was the favourite national final of the season…but did it pick the best song in your opinion?

As we know, the Top 3 from the Best 3rd Place poll were:

1: Ulrik Munther“Tell the World I’m Here” (Sweden)
2: Luminița Anghel“Unique” (Romania)
3: Simone “Stay Awake” (Denmark)

Now it’s time we find out the Best 2nd Place. There were a lot of good songs that only managed to reach 2nd place but what do you think? Which was the best 2nd placing song. Please vote below:

  1. MIKAEL SAARI FTW! :)
I also really like other runner ups too!
Grete Paia,Nuteki,Kismet,Dusan Svilar,Electric Fence,Carrousel! All great songs and most of them would make better esc entries. :(
    PS: I even enjoy Adelen’s Bombo now that it’s Spring(*Blush :) )…

  2. Finally, this poll has been opened! Let the debate begin.

OK here we go, without any hyperbole or exaggerations:

Not only is it my duty to vote for Bombo, but everyone’s duty because this is not only the biggest eurovision snub of 2013, but also the best song not to go to the esc in the history of the contest. 1000 years from now I am 99.9 percent certain it will still hold that distinction.

Take all the dance songs on offer this year (Germany, Ireland, Slovenia etc) combine them all, and the song is still whatever the name for 1 with a million zeroes after it is called better than everything combined.

Not only that, but Bombo finishing second represents the biggest mistake in national finals voting history, quite possibly the biggest mistake Norway has ever made in the history of their fine country, and a very rare example where rigging the vote for a second placed song to win is necessary and justified.

Plus, I can’t believe things like vocal performances and an artist not being ready to be on stage are being used to discredit this. These are only minor and inconsequential details in a song contest.

So, that being said, I am slightly leaning towards a vote for Norway lol.

  3. I have quite a few favourites here namely : Bulgaria, Finland, Greece, Ireland, Moldova, Sweden, Latvia, Estonia, Hungary and Malta.
I am among Greece, Sweden, Latvia and Estonia though..I like all four of them..Based on my current rankings I should vote for “Angel” but I think I will vote for Greta Paia, her song has grown immensly on me after Eesti Laul. But I really love all those 4 (Samanta Tina could have helped Latvia get out of the mediocrity they have fallen in the last many years..it’s a pity :( Same with Alex Leon and Giorgina for Greece..)

I expect the fan favourite Mikael Saari to win here or YOHIO..I like both of them but I prefer the later if it comes down to those two.

So my vote is for Greta Paia ! :)

  4. I can see already Mikeal Saari is going to be competition. As a reminder my bride from Finland already took care of him once and now he wants a piece of Adelen and Bombo? Bring it on!

LOL this thread is going to get good, everyone got their jokes ready.

  5. Plus I noticed that the clip used was the one from the national semifinal. There were obvious sound issues during her performance and the microphones were not working properly (probably the sound people in Norway are fans of “feed you my love” and decided to sabotage the performance)

The clip that should be used is the one below, which is unaltered and not tampered with by vindictive Norwegian sound technicians. The clip currently shown above may give the first time listener the false and totally wrong idea that Adelen can’t sing. We need the voters better informed.

  6. For me it was easily Grete Paia from Estonia, if that song had qualified i would have voted for it multiple times, easily better than what Estonia actually picked and a shame it lost in the final by 49% to 51%, I am sure that Estonia would have a much better chance with a good song that still stands out. Although i think a Nordic country will win.

  7. I don’t mind admitting having a soft spot for Aimee Fitzpatrick’s Crashing Down but my vote goes toe Electric Fence’s Emilia which, had it won, would most definitely have seen Romania in my top 5 rather than languishing at the bottom of my rankings with poor Cezar’s offering.

  8. I forgot how it’s almost fun to say who you vote for when absolutely no one mentions it at all or cares for it. Yeah yeah Finland is great, Norway is shit here, I mean let’s not over state the obvious and let’s be clear: Ukraine got my vote. Here’s a second hurrah from me today. Hurrah. (Estonia’s the best song on the poll, I just felt Ukraine shouldn’t be left pointless at the end of the game and go too typical “estonia had the best nf as usual”. It did, let’s all live with it.)

  9. I really like Finland, Switzerland, Bulgaria and Belarus. I voted for Finland but expect Yohio to win. After all, Sweden wins almost all of the fan polls. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  10. 1)Finland – Mikael Saari – We should be through : 10/10
    2)Belarus – Nuteki – Save me : 10/10
    3)Sweden – YOHIO – Heartbreak hotel : 8/10
    4)Ukraine – Dasha Medovaya – Don’t want to be alone : 8/10
    5)Serbia – Dušan Svilar – Spas : 7/10
    6)Latvia – Samanta Tīna – I need a hero : 7/10
    7)Switzerland – Carrousel – J’avais rendez-vous : 7/10
    8)Austria – Yela – Feels like home : 7/10
    9)Lithuania – Girmantė Vaitkutė – Time to shine : 7/10
    10)Ireland – Aimée Fitzpatrick – Crashing down : 7/10
    11)Israel – Ron Vanreich – Love is one : 7/10
    12)Malta – Kevin Borg – Needing you : 7/10
    13)Greece – Alex Leon ft Giorgina – Angel : 6/10
    14)Spain – El Sueño De Morfeo – Atrévete : 6/10
    15)Albania – Anjeza Shahini – Love : 6/10

    18)Hungary – Gigi Radics – Úgy fáj : 5/10
    19)Denmark – Mohamed – Unbreakable : 5/10
    20)Romania – Electric Fence – Emilia : 5/10
    21)Bulgaria – Elica Todorova & Stojan Jankulov – Kismet : 5/10
    22)Iceland – Unnur Eggertsdóttir – Ég syng! : 4/10

    24)Moldova – Boris Covali – Runaways : 3/10

  11. Hopefully, the comments section here is not representative of how the voting is going to go because my song has not gotten the love that I would have anticipated yet.

I can’t be the only person that likes this lol.

So far only jokes about this being an instrument of torture for dictators lol. Where are the Norwegians that are buying this double platinum and current Norwegian number one single up? Norway make yourselves heard before it is too late lol.

      • LOL, Good one. Another thumbs up joke! Or it may not be a joke lol. Don’t her classmates have computers anyway? Classmates please vote. Miss school if you need to. Somethings are more important than an education anyway. Her teachers should also vote.

Being that I am above all this, and take this seriously, I refuse to mention that the reason Saari lost is because his song put all his voters to sleep and they didn’t wake up until the voting was finished. By then it was too late, the bride had already left him at the alter. I’m not going to resort to saying things like this no way lol.

Funny enough, he did show more life in that Finnish gameshow clip that was posted.

  12. I’ve always loved Dasha Medova’s voice. Saari has many votes, so I’ ve voted for this great singer intsead.

P.S.: in the end, one of the usual suspects will win: the bombo girl or Yohio.

  13. There were so many great songs that placed second during this NF season – Mikael Saari (who I ended up voting for), Carrousel, Nuteki, Electric Fence and Alex Leon feat. Giorgina, to name just a few.

Norway or Sweden will probably win though, lol

  14. Adelen and Ron Weinreich were among my favoruites in their national final, but I’m not dissapointed because their songs were not chosen, But Serbia, Sweden and Estonia dissappointed me because my favourite Dusan Svilar, Yohio and Grete Paia lost the final against some weaker songs. The biggest dissappointment this year was Finland. I still cannot believe that Mikael Saari’s masterpiece came 2nd and Krista’s song became a winner. I think Finland missed a great opportunity for being in top 5. “We Should Be Through” could effect the audience as well as the juries like “Suus” did last year.
