Eurovision 2011: Jan Delay as Interval Act + More Details About The Shows

Düsseldorf – The Heads of Delegation meeting has started in Düsseldorf today. Details about the stage, the post cards and the interval act have been revealed. The stage will include a huge LED screen in the back part and a “Satellite” approximately 40 meters in front of the stage. The floor of the stage will also include LED strips and two ramps. According to officials, the stage was intentionally kept small to keep the concentration on the center of attention. The Opening Act will be a rocky performance of last year’s winning song “Satellite” by the big band “The Heavytones”. Lena won’t be able to sing her song again, as she will represent Germany again this year. The interval act will be the popular German singer Jan Delay with his song Disko No1. The postcards will include the slogan of the 2011 Eurovision “Feel your heart beat” in the respective national language.

The Heavytones are the big band of Stefan Raab’s (this years host) late night show “TV Total”, they have also participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2004 as Max Mutzke’s band. During the German national finals 2010 and this year they played all songs live. They have also frequently accompanied Lena during TV appereances leading up to the Eurovision Song Contest in Oslo.

Jan Delay is a popular singer, songwriter and producer. His musical style includes  elements of hip hop, reggae, dub and funk. He became known in German-speaking countries as member of the bands “Absolute Beginner” and “La Boom”. He has since pursued a successful solo career.

Here you can see his live performance at “Rock am Ring 2010”:

  1. I am very happy to learn that The Heavy Tones will be there and hope and pray that at least they will be allowed to play live. Everything else sounds fine. I am very suprised to see a left-wing and anti-globalisation act as Jan Delay as interval act in the final though.

  2. stage sounds all right, so lena wont have the joy to have the last winner reprise and all makes sense though it’s sad i think… it’s been a long time since we had tasteful postcard these dont sound great either

  3. I read on another site than Eric Saade won’t be allowed with his glass in Dusseldorf because it can be very dangerous to the other artists. Apparently he is very angry because he thinks the breaking glass is the climax of his show and fits the song perfectly. Now they’re searching for some other way to break something else.

Wonder how his show will be without the breaking glass.

    • Not much left, I’s say … because there is next to no musical substance and what Eric does on stage hardly qualifies as singing imo. It’s more like a nasal caw …

    • after being down to 5 “dancers / singers” and actual live singing, saade’s show takes yet another step down, i dont see how breaking glass fits the “Popular” theme, it’s a simple allegory of it, come on be more creative than that!

    • I’m actually glad that he’s not allowed with “breaking the glass” part because it ruined the whole show. Maybe now they’ll just stick to the dancing and singing, that’s enough.
