Germany: Host city decision in August

Germany 2011 – A total of 6 German cities are interested in hosting the Eurovision Song Contest 2011. Germany won the right (and the burden?!) of hosting the event as Lena Meyer-Landrut won the Contest in Oslo. German television channel NDR, which is responsible for the contest next year has now revealed, that a decision will be taken after the summer holidays in August. The six cities still in the race are: Berlin, Cologne, Hamburg, Hannover (Lena’s home city), Düsseldorf and Gelsenkirchen. Furthermore Frankfurt am Main was suggested by a German politician for its good public transport infrastructure (airport!). NDR is already talking to cities and venues.

Have your say:

  1. AUGUST!!! How annoying. I mean, it’s not a choice that should be rushed, but the longer they leave it, the less time they have to organise it.

  2. Well there are definetly enough arenas with great capacity. In my opinion there is no need to give it to the capital like in smaller countries since Germany has 4 cities with more than 1 million habitants. Cologne? Eurovision is less ‘gay’ during the last years, this argument for cologne would fail.

I’m pretty sure that the host broadcaster NDR will give it to Hamburg their hometown with the biggest ESC party thoughout the years or Hannover.

  3. I’d say Berlin for 3 possible reasons:

    1. It’s the capital
    2. Berlin missed out the organisation in 1983 (it was München back then)
    3. It’s the ONLY German city that can be named Eastern- and Western-German. And exactly 20 years past the fall of the BERLIN Wall… I think the city deserves someting like the ESC. Sort of a conclusion after a year of festivities.
