Eurovision 2012: Allocation Draw on January 26

Eurovision 2012 – The heads of delegation of the broadcasters participating at the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 will meet on January 25 and 26 in Azerbaijan to discuss details concerning the organization of the competition. During this meeting the allocation draw will be held, which divides the participating nations into the two semi-finals. Once again the countries will be divided into pots according to voting patterns and then they will be allocated to one of the semi-finals.

The draw will only concern which country performs in which semi-final. The draw of the running order will be held on a later occasion. The only countries not affected by this draw are the Big 5 (Germany, France, Spain, the UK and in case they return Italy) as well as the host country Azerbaijan.

The EBU is expected to publish the official list of participants any day now. Armenia, Russia, San Marino and Italy still have not confirmed their participation. There were also doubts about Romania’s and Moldova’s participation as the broadcasters face financial difficulties.Furthermore, Morocco may return to the contest with public broadcaster 2MTV.

Stay tuned for more information!

  1. Very exciting news indeed. I am quite sure all of them are going to be in. I am kinda hoping for Luxembourg to reenter this year as well. It’s been oddly quiet about them, as every year they are asked the question and it’s always been a no, apart from no reports this year.

  2. Poland said their decision would be posted on their website and even though the person in charge said in an interview that they would probably withdraw, the announcement never made it to their website so maybe the EBU’s trying to convince them to stay?

Out of the ones that haven’t confirmed, I think Russia’s the least likely to miss out.

  3. I don’t hate armenia at all but I really wish they do not compete untill 2013 because look if the EBU guarantees security to the armenian delegation and something like in the Munich Olympics happens, what will happen to Eurovision? Will it come to an end? I really don’t want to but we don’t know many things can happen

    • Good point, but what if Armenia does participate and nothing bad happens? It would be an improvement and a step in the right direction, wouldn’t it? Basically what this contest is all about. Apart from booing during their performance I don’t think they’d be stupid enough to do anything to them with all the international media around.

Wasn’t there some rumours already about artists who supposedly said they’d represent Armenia in Baku? The girl who won New Wave, I think it was. If they can get someone of her caliber to willingly go to Baku, then I believe Armenia will participate. Russia is surely going to be there. I think maybe Poland will too and that they’ll choose an artist internally. Italy and San Marino – I hope and it seems like they’re going to be there. I wish Morocco would return, but I doubt it.

  4. My freinds, hope you all had a great festive season. but ontopic Morocco will not be in Baku thanks to them not summiting their application and also the 2nd channel has not been approved by the EBU. Secondly Armenia may be in with an international act im told, Luxemburg wont – they have had enough of ESC. Does anyone know about Poland – what else have TVP said?? :-)

  5. Great… I hope that Russia, Italy, San Marino and why not..? Morroco are in…¡¡¡

But for Armenia, i hope for the snake of god that they won’t be here for Baku. I had the feeling that something unpleasant will happen, if they can not assure the safety to the Arm delegation for May or vice versa.

  6. I hope to see all above mentioned countries to be in, the more the merrier.. I also want EBU to be more transperant about their negotiations proces with these countries, I dont like hidden things
