Sweden – SVT, the national broadcaster, will conclude Melodifestivalen tonight! Six weeks since it started, 28 songs later and 5 shows,we’ll finally know who will go to Rotterdam!
This year’s Melodifestivalen was quite original. For Christer Björkman’s last MF as a producer, after he took over in 2002 and lead Sweden to two victories (and therefore Björkman to two Eurovision to produce), will see him leave with grandeur. While the Covid19 prevented him from touring around Sweden, as all shows were held at Stockholm’s Annexet hall (in the “Globe” village where one can also find the famous Ericson Globe, venue of two Eurovision), he still found a great line-up of hosts to accompagny him. He hosted all shows and was joined by guest co-hosts for each Saturday night:
- Semi-Final 1: Lena Philipsson
- Semi-Final 2: Oscar Zia & Anis Don Demina
- Semi-Final 3: Jason Diakité
- Semi-Final 4: Per Andersson & Pernilla Wahlgren
- Second Chance: Shirley Clamp
- Grand Final: Shima Niavarani & Måns Zelmerlöw
The routine weekly reveals (Thursday with 1mn audio; Friday with 30s live rehearsals) have returned as well and we got a big month discovering songs, seeing bookies react to them, see some rise and others fall.
The Finale line-up is:
- Danny Saucedo – “Dandi dansa” (Danny Saucedo, Karl-Johan Råsmark)
- Klara Hammarström – “Beat of Broken Hearts” (David Kreuger, Fredrik Kempe, Niklas Carson Mattson, Andreas Wijk)
- Anton Ewald – “New Religion” (Jonas Wallin, Joe Killington, Anton Ewald, Maja Strömstedt)
- The Mamas – “In the Middle” (Emily Falvey, Robin Stjernberg, Jimmy Jansson)
- Paul Rey – “The Missing Piece” (Fredrik Sonefors, Laurell Barker, Pauli Jokela)
- Charlotte Perrelli – “Still Young” (Thomas G:son, Bobby Ljunggren, Erik Bernholm, Charlie Gustavsson)
- Tusse – “Voices” (Joy Deb, Linnea Deb, Jimmy “Joker” Thörnfeldt, Anderz Wrethov)
- Alvaro Estrella – “Baila Baila” (Anderz Wrethov, Linnea Deb, Jimmy “Joker” Thörnfeldt)
- Clara Klingenström – “Behöver inte dig idag” (Clara Klingenström, Bobby Ljunggren, David Lindgren Zacharias)

The show starts at 20:00 CET and you can watch it here. What do you think of this finale? Who’s your favorite?
ALL CATEGORIES WHAT?
+40 from televoting as expected and a contender for the crown in May.
I would approve that. Another win would be a nice leaving present for Christer.
Why? He doesn’t own ESC.
I said it would be a nice present for him not for ESC in general. And I’m generous. And I like the song. ;)
Judging by the commenting here for years and years, many people seem to think he does!
Do you like Tusse?
Yeah, I like Tusse, but song is very mediocre and very MF of last three years. Not for me.
I think you, Lina and me are the only ones who like Tix more than Tusse lol
Hahhahaa! I like that!
So you don’t. It is an OK effort me thinks.
SVT basically never sends anything below ok, neither does it now.
Hmm… Malena, Anna B and Robin S were probably a bit below average or around averagy. All others were better than average imo. Though I’m not a fan of them, they are!
Completely agree, the performance tonight gave me some winner vibes too
It has a message at the same time. Not everyone resonates to it personally but ESC has always been a platform for such entries.
I feel like such entries don’t tend to do well: esc televote goes for KEiiNO and fun, not very political and the one black who did win esc wasn’t about his skin colour at all
It remains to be seen, but aside from the topic the package is very strong. Well staged, strong vocals and anthemic. If he managed to sell it to me then it means somehing.
Congratulations, Tusse.
A landslide televoting win.
The best live tonight won imo and a great song! A newcomer bein a massive televote winner is great to see. Congrats Tusse!
Tusse got all possible 12’s from the public, something John Lundvik and The Mamas never managed.. :O From all categories..
Well, even though I personally don’t like it, I can understand the song’s appeal. And then there is the zeitgeist factor, which might have helped too.
Swedish media really hyped it to th e SKY and his story (from Congo) helped a bit..so many ppl in Sweden listens what Swedish media say..
Well I am the only person here celebrating this victory here but doesn’t matter, used to it. Tusse is a very interesting and poignant artist, the song is great, the staging is very good. This is a contender in May for sure.
I’m heavily swaying too here! <3
:)
nope Porsteinn and Donny both like this a lot and said so around here :o
You also didn’t remember me.. :(
Are you in victime mode again? It would help to read the comments. You are far from being alone. :)
Yes Morgan pointed out the other 2 users who support it. Please keep your offensive wording for someone else. I have never been a victim, it’s a factual statement I have a taste that contrasts the majority’s here for a decade. This is just a statement, not victim syndrome of any kind.
I did not talk about any syndrome. :)
Marko likes it too btw. And I think that you are out of synch to a far lesser extent that you think.
Well I am going to fight in favour of not only Sweden which I love but for Germany and The Netherlands <3 And no don't take fight literally please, I don't plan to "fight" anyone. I mean I will support these entries.
And even worse he pretends like I don’t exist.. :(
Like I’m some garbage here..as always.. :/
You are a well-respected member of the ET community, just like everyone else commenting here. :)
Glad to see Clara make the top 5 at least.
He should qualify easily from the semi, but it could flop in the finals.
Ingrosso?
He only flopped with televote (and deservingly so), while juries held him high.
Tusse will be in the middle of the chart with both juries and televote, I think.
Sweden… might be in some trouble come May. This is a very Sweden thing, and I doubt it’ll drum the response needed.
BRAVO Mamas, 2nd with the audience.. <3
I'm sad they are not in Rotterdam in the end..but I'm so happy for sweet lil' Tusse Chiza! :)
This song is very underrated here in this site..
It has so many layers actually..beautiful entry!
What do you mean by underrated, Marko? Most people haven’t made a results prediction yet. And everything else comes down to personal taste. I don’t like it, but I expect it to come 6th to 10th in Rotterdam at this point.
I dunno..I’m sorry.. :(
No need to be sorry. :)
I wonder if the Mamas actually won the 4th heat given the higher televote score (just like v Felix last yr), but it has to be said Eric’s live was in general much worse tonight.
Yeah, Top 4 in televote in the final had 3 songs from Heat 4 :o
My bf said “so I guess it’s very Swedish, I don’t get it, and they voted for the two black acts top 2!” but I can’t really tell him anything as this was also my personal take on current Swedish televotes… :/ Now Iceland!
Also 3rd year in a row.
Live performance of Iceland now
do you have a link ?
I am so glad he won for one more reason : Our conversations have been dominated so much from the pandemic (and rightly so) and its effects but that made many other very important social conversations to be pushed to the sides without them having resolved the issues that were their centerpieces. And that makes the anger brew even more intense. This song brings some other important topics back to the spotlight and that’s important imo.
What a cleansweep in the televote! It would’ve been nice to root for a Swedish entry after a long time, but it is what it is. Good luck, Tusse!
Iceland is out!
LOL WORLD PREMIER:
Not too keen but I prefer it to Switzerland. So if one of them has to win Reykjavik it is.
#Valentina’sBackyard2022 <3
It doesn’t give me winner vibes but no songs except may from Lithuania do so this year.
senHIT! ;)
A possible flop. Maybe televoting in the semi can help her Q.
SenHIT not qualifying would be Kate Ryan x1000
8th in the betting odds, up from 36th in under a week.
I really like Adrenalina, too, but the rap-part brings it to a temporary standstill rather than making it a cooler song; also Flo Rida does not seem like the kind of guy who’s give Senit an adrenaline rush – I really wish they’d cut that part.
Agreed, which is why San Marino is around my 11th now, when at first I had it 8th or so
It’s too bad because a good rap part can really add to a song like this but it’s pretty clear this was just randomly thrown in there.
Momentum’s gone and there’s a sadness lingering all over this entry.
But Iceland is ambitious. Look the title under the youtube video . :P
LOL
The Roop is only one that managed to exceed themselves of last years favourites. It’s the only song I can imagine winning this whole thing at the moment.
I hope so. They’ll open an open air discotheque in Vilnius in case they win.
If they win, I will frequent that discotheque for a week!
Yeah not for me once again as I said when it leaked. It feels even less catchy this one despite stepping in the same shows in terms of musical patterns compared to the last one. Vocals flat as always, performance tries again to be quirky and meme-generating. It’s ok I guess.
Måns just said that he has already heard most of the songs in Eurovision, and that Tusse is “very good… in comparison”. :p
That’s quite arrogant, no? Hope it’s just some answer to promote the recent MF winner, else it sounds awful and rude :o
He’s new song was barely AC, so let him talk 😃
His new song was bad, and Shima Niavarani, more or less annoying throughout, said “ok fine, I’ll show why I’m here” and did an incredible version of “Move” and redeemed herself! How was she the best vocalist tonight?! lol
Actually she was quite funny through out and as for her singing, that’s how top actors sing and perform. And yes, she did give a performance of the evening with her Move. It’s not a bad song at all 😃
I have a different take on that, as I said during the evening (but you ignore us during the show, which is dumb: MF is so much better on ET, with all our own little drama lol): “MF winners reprise in a new genre: if the reprise version is better than the winning song, you know the MF winner wasn’t that strong! This is a better “Move” for sure. And however cool Eric was with “Popular”, Helena Paparizou”s reprise was ICONIC! :o”
I don’t ignore you, Mello was just so fast paced this year I really couldn’t concentrate on both! And I’m totally not into dramas!
I think af Sillèn did great scripting tonight.
I even made a playlist long ago, which I update every year lol:
Ah, I didn’t know! 😃
Yes, it didn’t really sound good. Maybe it was just meant as some peptalk, I don’t know.
Well, I ain’t throwing stones, as Zibbz would have said if their sound had worked. :p
they had one of the worst results: they gave points to “Baila Baila” and 0 to Clara K!
Shameful!
Well he is right.
I still want the app to disappear. It would’ve been interesting to see the results with ordinary televoting and how different it would be. I don’t think the televoting group of today really reflect how it would have been an ordinary year, since a lot of people simply abstain from televoting when the app is available.
So you think results are not as strong for Tusse? Can it be close between Mamas and Clara (56 and 52 but because of the system)?
Tusse most probably would’ve won by a landslude, regardless. But I think the rest could have been a bit clearer. Now, it was more or less a tie between The Mamas, Clara, Eric and Dotter.
and the “tie” because of the age system which seems to favor what older people like imo :o I know televote was accused of only voting for teenage taste, but this is just another bias :/
Yes, it is. My main problem though is that people now are just throwing around votes with the app, now that the votes are for free. Before, with pure televoting, people would be rooting for their favourites, or maybe their top 2 or 3 at most. Now it’s more like “well, this sounded nice enough, I’ll give it five app votes”.
Tusse most probably would’ve won by a landslude, regardless. But I think the rest could have been a bit clearer. Now, it was more or less a tie between The Mamas, Clara, Eric and Dotter.
