Sweden: Melodifestivalen Final Tonight

Sweden – SVT, the national broadcaster, will conclude Melodifestivalen tonight! Six weeks since it started, 28 songs later and 5 shows,we’ll finally know who will go to Rotterdam!

This year’s Melodifestivalen was quite original. For Christer Björkman’s last MF as a producer, after he took over in 2002 and lead Sweden to two victories (and therefore Björkman to two Eurovision to produce), will see him leave with grandeur. While the Covid19 prevented him from touring around Sweden, as all shows were held at Stockholm’s Annexet hall (in the “Globe” village where one can also find the famous Ericson Globe, venue of two Eurovision), he still found a great line-up of hosts to accompagny him. He hosted all shows and was joined by guest co-hosts for each Saturday night:

  • Semi-Final 1: Lena Philipsson
  • Semi-Final 2: Oscar Zia & Anis Don Demina
  • Semi-Final 3: Jason Diakité
  • Semi-Final 4: Per Andersson & Pernilla Wahlgren
  • Second Chance: Shirley Clamp
  • Grand Final: Shima Niavarani & Måns Zelmerlöw

The routine weekly reveals (Thursday with 1mn audio; Friday with 30s live rehearsals) have returned as well and we got a big month discovering songs, seeing bookies react to them, see some rise and others fall.

The Finale line-up is:

  1. Danny Saucedo“Dandi dansa” (Danny Saucedo, Karl-Johan Råsmark)
  2. Klara Hammarström“Beat of Broken Hearts” (David Kreuger, Fredrik Kempe, Niklas Carson Mattson, Andreas Wijk)

  1. The best live tonight won imo and a great song! A newcomer bein a massive televote winner is great to see. Congrats Tusse!

    • Well, even though I personally don’t like it, I can understand the song’s appeal. And then there is the zeitgeist factor, which might have helped too.

  2. Well I am the only person here celebrating this victory here but doesn’t matter, used to it. Tusse is a very interesting and poignant artist, the song is great, the staging is very good. This is a contender in May for sure.

  3. Sweden… might be in some trouble come May. This is a very Sweden thing, and I doubt it’ll drum the response needed.

  4. BRAVO Mamas, 2nd with the audience.. <3

I'm sad they are not in Rotterdam in the end..but I'm so happy for sweet lil' Tusse Chiza! :)

This song is very underrated here in this site..

It has so many layers actually..beautiful entry!

  5. I wonder if the Mamas actually won the 4th heat given the higher televote score (just like v Felix last yr), but it has to be said Eric’s live was in general much worse tonight.

  6. My bf said “so I guess it’s very Swedish, I don’t get it, and they voted for the two black acts top 2!” but I can’t really tell him anything as this was also my personal take on current Swedish televotes… :/ Now Iceland!

  7. I am so glad he won for one more reason : Our conversations have been dominated so much from the pandemic (and rightly so) and its effects but that made many other very important social conversations to be pushed to the sides without them having resolved the issues that were their centerpieces. And that makes the anger brew even more intense. This song brings some other important topics back to the spotlight and that’s important imo.

  8. What a cleansweep in the televote! It would’ve been nice to root for a Swedish entry after a long time, but it is what it is. Good luck, Tusse!

    • Yeah not for me once again as I said when it leaked. It feels even less catchy this one despite stepping in the same shows in terms of musical patterns compared to the last one. Vocals flat as always, performance tries again to be quirky and meme-generating. It’s ok I guess.

  9. Måns just said that he has already heard most of the songs in Eurovision, and that Tusse is “very good… in comparison”. :p

  10. I still want the app to disappear. It would’ve been interesting to see the results with ordinary televoting and how different it would be. I don’t think the televoting group of today really reflect how it would have been an ordinary year, since a lot of people simply abstain from televoting when the app is available.

      • Tusse most probably would’ve won by a landslude, regardless. But I think the rest could have been a bit clearer. Now, it was more or less a tie between The Mamas, Clara, Eric and Dotter.

        • and the “tie” because of the age system which seems to favor what older people like imo :o I know televote was accused of only voting for teenage taste, but this is just another bias :/

          • Yes, it is. My main problem though is that people now are just throwing around votes with the app, now that the votes are for free. Before, with pure televoting, people would be rooting for their favourites, or maybe their top 2 or 3 at most. Now it’s more like “well, this sounded nice enough, I’ll give it five app votes”.

  11. Tusse most probably would’ve won by a landslude, regardless. But I think the rest could have been a bit clearer. Now, it was more or less a tie between The Mamas, Clara, Eric and Dotter.
