Lithuania: First Heat Tonight

Lithuania – This year’s Pabandom iš naujo 2021 starts tonight with the first heat out of two. 10 acts are taking part and 5 will qualify to the semi-final with a vote split with 50% jury and 50% televote.

At first, Lithuania revealed 23 acts who were selected to take part but in the end both Gintarė Korsakaitė and Evelina Sašenko withdrew so we’re down to 21. The Roop however are automatically qualified to the final. So we’re down to 20 entries, split in two heats of 10 acts. 5 will qualify through the semi-finals from both heats. Then the semi-final, which will feature 10 acts, will qualify 5 to the final, where they’ll join The Roop for a 6-act final.

This heat was already pre-recorded on January 12th and the juries have already cast their ballots. The jury members are Ramūnas Zilnys, Jievaras Jasinskis, Vytautas Bikus, Ieva Narkutė & Aistė Smilgevičiūtė (who represented Lithuania in 1999).

The hosts are Ieva Stasiulevičiūtė, Vytautas Rumšas Jr and Vaidas Baumila (who represented Lithuania in 2015). This is tonight’s line-up:

  1. I won’t be able to follow Biden’s inauguration tomorrow. His plane is landing atm. I so hope that some things get better in 2021. :) Good luck, Mr. President!

  2. Aksel: Disappointing! It is a battle of the sad bois and Oskr just tramples over him by virtue of better lyrics and a more raw feeling. This is better produced, but I’m left cold.

  3. Watching British news atm I will only give this advise to the Westminster government:

optimism isn’t an adequate substitute for reality
wishful thinking isn’t an adequate substitute for facts
self-confidence isn’t an adequate substitute for competence
a bumbling narcissist isn’t an adequate substitute for a prime minister

  4. Yaaaay!

    He didi it!

    Axel Kaankaranta has just delivered!
“Hurt” is AWESOME..I love that simplicity of the melody, still such a melodic structure.. I love the color of the voice, the vocal tone..MELANCHOLY! :(
It is almost like last year entry, but since Axel’s lives are wonderful, i expect this to be elevated on the level of “Looking back” or even higher!

Oooh I really do LOVE Danny and “Hurt”, they are both AMAZING to me… I want both of them in Rotterdam! :/

      • Which one? Aksel Kaankaranta or Danny?
Yes, for Danny reactions are negative.. :(( But for Aksel not so much.. :)

I suppose you also like/love Maria Solheim – “Nordlyset” from the 2nd MGP Heat?
I didn’t at first, but now it grow on me, I hope I will fall completely for live on Saturday!!

        • Aksel. :(
I won’t check any NF songs this season before they are being performed live. I made exceptions for both Danny and Aksel though.

          • Last year he had a flood of dislikes (especially against Erika – “Cicciolina”), it was terrible, I was crying how mean fans were towards my Aksel Kaankaranta, but he still won! :O And now not, now he has very good reactions on yt after just few hours.. :)

  5. Based on studio versions I rank like this till now:

    1. Aksel – “Hurt” 10/10
    2. Danny – “Sinä päivänä kun kaikki rakastaa mua” 10/10
    3. Teflon Brothers x Pandora – “I Love You” 9/10
    4. Oskr – “Lie” 9/10
    5. Laura – “Play” 2/10

    This NF is AWESOME!

  6. On topic (Lithuania):

Second Heat is being filmed today. Gabrielius’s song will be out on Friday 22th Jan (on his instagram).

    I can’t wait!
And tomorrow Portugal OMG!!!…Gooosh, will my heart survive this week?? :D

  7. I like Aksel’s entry but I expected something better, it’s good but I fear it will cancel its chances with Oskr, my favourite so far, and even with Danny based on the moods. That would leave an easy road for “I Love You” 😢 But it seems the next entries could be stronger contenders.

About Israel… better luck next year :D I would lie if I say I genuinely like one of the final versions :P The drop from La La Love, the mix of 101 styles in Set Me Free and the nonsense of Ue La La are SO off-putting.

  8. Albert Černý (lead singer of Lake Malawi) did an interview saying that his Polish manager told him to compete in Szansa na Sukces (Polish NF) for PR even though he didn’t want to and he prayed that he would lose because he never wanted to compete in Eurovision more than once. He says he would write Eurovision entries for other artists but does not want to perform again.

    PS : @Morgan, you’re welcome :P

  10. 1st FdC semi done.
On first listening the two saudade songs stand out (or maybe that’s what I’m “longing for” :P)
There is only one uptempo entry (Girassol) which is more than passable. From the downtempo indie genre, I’d go with Claro Como Água. And there is the Black Mamba’s entry for the more Americanized sound lovers
    Voila, a top 5!

  11. 2nd semi :
Joana Alegre – “Joana Do Mar” <3<3
Ana Tereza – “Com Um Abraço” <3
    Eu.Clides – “Volte-Face” <3

      • Same, but nothing compared to the likes of “O Jardim” or “Telemóveis”. I’m listening to the playlist and I’m thinking to myself: “This must be the weakest FdC line-up since I started watching in 2009.”

  12. The Portuguese songs that I liked:

Carolina Deslandes – “Por um Triz”
    Fábia Maia – “Dia Lindo”
Valéria – “Na Mais Profunda Saudade”
Joana Alegre – “Joana do Mar”
Karetus & Romeu Bairos – “Saudade”
    Miguel Marôco – “Girassol”
Pedro Gonçalves – “Não Vou Ficar”
    mema. – “Claro Como Água”
    Tainá – “Jasmim”
Ana Tereza – “Com um Abraço”

I love a lot of this songs!! The selection seems to be more diverse too, there are some traditional entries and some modern entries too. I don’t know what my overall favorite would be, but I’m leaning towards Fábia, it reminds me of a fairytale.

I also love the saudade <3
