ET Eurovision 2020: Grand Final!

With this whole situation surrounding the Corona virus affecting our most beloved show Eurovision Song Contest, the ET team decided it would be important to host our own in its memory. Tonight: the  Grand Final!

Every year we share our views in the Premath and Aftermath, but this year we have decided to cancel those events after all and merge them into an all out show called Our Own Eurovision 2020! Gregor will once again be in charge to collect our votes! 37 of you voted for the Grand Final!

As there are no order of songs, we have decided to go classic and do a random draw for both of the Semi-Finals and later the Grand Final. Then as a standard Eurovision night we will listen to all of the songs in the order that was randomly chosen.

In the semi-finals we revealed the 20 countries that got the highest scores and qualified for tonight’s Grand Final. Tonight, 26 songs and the Grand Final results! See you at 6PM CET!

Tonight’s running-order:

  1. RIP Michel Piccoli.
    I absolutely love this movie.
    https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0057345/

  2. Another song that passed the last phase of Germany’s songwriting camp and this one is actually in german. Those two are brothers, so the video is a little pervy:

    • Are they doing the Winslet/Di Caprio sequence from “Titanic”? (0:59) :)

    • Ι don’t know if it would have been a better choice esc-wise but i definitely prefer that to Ben Dolic. It has character and cultural identity. I want to virtually slap the jury panel.

    • It is a fun clip but “Violent Thing” is a much better song. This would get obliterated to below-20th placings (at best).

      • Ben Dolic would also have been obliterated below 20th place. Another Eliot situation.

        • Yes exactly the comparison I always think of – fine (but not great) song with terrified looking kid. To my neverending embarrassment unlike BEL 2019, we actually “bought” the useles performer from another country.

          • How long you guys are actually going to bang about this? It’s really like Ben stole and ate your and Michos’ lunch or something. Just grab something from the bistro 😃
There is only one right answer to this one. We never know. Song is excellent, best you had for many many years.

            • No! s!stärZ is obviously our best song ever!

            • They were also very convincing performers. That’s how you command the stage and keep the ESC fandom by the balls.

            • Natural charisma, great staging, stunning composition and lyrics – s!stärZ were really like a combination of L. Nadezhda Lappo-Danilevsky, Suzy Henrique Nikiéma and Suhaee Abro with the confidence of Serafina Dávalos

            • Yes, s!stärZ are living proof that the legacy of those great women is alive and yet another proof of the saying After every great woman there will be even greater women.

            • Finally someone who understands me unlike all these other cretins!

          • Bel 2019 did actually ok (13th in its semi). He actually liked his own song and it was written for his vocals. Whereas Germany and France there’s a huge mismatch due to delegations having no real idea what to do

            • Yes and in both cases the problem of buying a song that doesn’t have to do anything with the local music scene or the singer :-(.

        • I haven’t seen a “bad” live from him that everyone does. He might have been a little too clean cut for the song but he seemed competent and I am sure they’d stage it well for the actual contest. Plus the song has potential. So a very probable top 10 if they got it right. This one, regardless of staging, would get obliterated no question though. Unless they went full meme mode and tried to do some staging inspired by the clip.

Why does Eliot need to be brought up ? He did fine for what he had to work with stage wise imo.

          • From what I understand ithis is the staging they had in mind. I definitely think France, Spain, even the UK would have had a far more competent live than this:

            • You seriously believe that it would have looked and sounded like this? This is obviously just a demo of something.

            • It was on the ARD alternative Eurovision night and it was supposed to be a realistic impression of how his entry would have looked in Rotterdam. Also you can’t do much to fix that voice…

            • There really isn’t anything realistic about that one. It’s not shooted, stage directed or choreographed. It only tells that It’s a big stage and there are video screens and dancers. Anyone can see that.
As for his voice, the backing singers work miracles behind the set. Their speciality has been falsettos recently as weheard with Chingiz and Benjamin 😃

            • That’s not how it would look on the final night on every detail, but I think it’s obvious there is no particular inspiration in the concept and that he is not a natural on the stage.

            • No, there isn’t a concept, and there isn’t anything else either, like I said. Don’t think theIr American master plan arrived before ESC 2020 ended. Also can’t really see Ben from there, so difficult to judge. All can say that the quality of this video production is extremely low.

            • Don’t remind me of Saturday night. We were all sitting in front of the tv thinking that there might be some hope after all now that we would know their plans for Rotterdam in only a few minutes. Then came this and everyone fell silent. Nobody could believe what we were witnessing both visually and vocally.

            • This looks like early stages of a staging concept and imo looks promising enough in terms of ideas (appearing and disappearing dancers at the drop of the beat e.g.). But this is not a finished product by any stretch of imagination.

            • Also I still fail to hear those horrendous vocals everyone is talking about tbh. I find this the most perplexing part of the criticism’s towards this entry. I hear small differences maybe at the chorus in this live from the studio version personally.

            • It’s Germany – they could buy a million-dollar choreographer and would still fuck it up. If we hired Fokas we’d break the boxes.

  3. Results from the 2020 OGAE fan poll:

    1. Lithuania 770p
    2. Iceland 634p
    3. Switzerland 620p
    4. Bulgaria 401p
    5. Italy 380p
    6. Norway 296p
    7. Germany 289p
    8. Russia 261p
    9. Malta 245p
    10. Sweden 189p

(Last year their top10 was ITA/ CHE /NLD /NOR /CYP /SWE /AZE / ISL /RUS/ GRC, so they foresaw the potential of Norway but overrated Cyprus and Greece)

Final results from INFE 2020 poll:

    1.Lithuania 186p
    2. Switzerland 133p
    3. Italy 97p
    4. Iceland 93p
    5. Russia 93p
    6. Bulgaria 84p
    7. Norway 81p
    8. Malta 60p
    9. Sweden 57p
    10. Azerbaijan 56p

(Last year they had NLD /CHE /ITA /RUS / CYP /ISL /SWE /ESP /MLT /FRA so they got the top4 correctly but again overrated Cyprus, Malta and France)

    Eurojury 2020:

    1. Iceland 440p
    2. Switzerland 439p
    3. Malta 366p
    4. Sweden 351p
    5. Lithuania 349p
    6. Bulgaria 348p
    7. Russia 310p
    8. Romania 262p
    9. Italy 252p
    10. Germany 147p

(Last year they had NLD / ITA / CHE / SWE / GRC / CYP /MLT / ISL / ARM / NOR. They did not catch North Macedonia at all -had her 19th- and in general seem to be much more in line with the fan polls rather than the actual jury results. This year they had Norway 11th which sounds to me very much like what the juries would go for).

    • Great to see so much Love & Like … and no ‘hate’. I have always wondered how anyone can hate a song … after all it’s just a song and can’t do any harm, no matter how much I personally dislike it.
