Tonight: Fourth Super Saturday of 2020

Just like last year, we will witness Super Saturdays with many shows happening all at once. Instead of opening all threads, hard to follow for everyone, we decided to have just one thread for all shows to follow live so we can all discuss them together.

.Sweden – It’s the most anticipated National Final within the Eurovision Fandom and it resumes tonight with their fourth of the four semi finals. Melodifestivalen is back!

Seven Acts will take to the stage at the Malmö Arena in Malmö and will compete for the chance to make the grand final on March 7th. The top two will reach the grand final and the acts that come third and fourth will proceed onto the Second Chance round. This is tonight’s running-order:

  4. Victor CroneTroubled Waters
  5. Ellen Benediktson & Simon PeyronSurface

  7. Hanna FermBrave

It’s 100% televote tonight. The first round eliminates the bottom 2 entries. The second round sees 5 entries battling for the four qualifying places, two “direkt til finalen” and two to “andra chasen”. How much do we learn Swedish in MF, really?

The show starts at 20:00 (CET) and can be watched here.

UkraineUA:PBC, the broadcaster in charge of Vidbir 2020, the national final, will conclude the process of selecting the entry for Rotterdam with the grand final ! Once more, Sergey Prytula will host. Tonight, 6 entries will perform and the winner is selected thanks to a 50% split between juries and televote. The three juries are: Andriy Danylko (Ukraine in 2007), Tina Karol (Ukraine 2006) and Vitaliy Drozdov (producer).

Here is tonight’s running order:

Slovenia – RTVSLO, the national broadcaster, will host the EMA final tonight. Snippets came out already, and the songs were aired once on Slovenian radios. But to most of us, it’ll be a first listen and of course new performances.

There will be 12 finalists this year. The two winners EMA FREŠ will join the 10 already picked entries (out of 74 submitted) for the final. The final will take place at the RTVS Studio 1 in Ljubljana. Here’s tonight line-up:

  1. Simon Vadnjal – Nisi sam

The winner is selected in two rounds: first, three juries will select the two superfinalists, then 100% televote decides between the two.

The show starts at 20:00 CET and you can watch it here.

Portugal – RTP, the national broadcaster, will open its search for the next Portuguese entry with the first semi-final of Festival da Canção 2020 to be hosted tonight.

Te show tonight will be hosted at RTP’s studios in Lisbon by Jorge Gabriel & Tânia Ribas de Oliveira while Inês Lopes Gonçalves will be in the greenroom. Tonight’s line-up is:

The show starts at 23:00 CET and you can watch it here.

Poland – TVP, the national broadcaster, will host this Sunday the final of Szansa na Sukces Eurowizja 2020 (“Chance for Eurovision 2020 Success”), a talent show that serves as a national final! This is the method that gave Poland a second win in a row in JESC in 2020. The host will be Artur Orzech, who has been the commentator for TVP since 1994!

There has been three TV shows with duels, each show giving us a finalist. The songs were covedr of a guest star featuring in the show. A 3-jury panel chose the winners (the jury members were all former esc artists for Poland: Cleo, Michal Szpak and Gromee).

  1. Semi-Final 1: Kasia Dereń covering “Mamma Mia” by ABBA
  2. Semi-Final 2: Alicja Szemplińska covering “To nie ja!” (Poland 1994)
  3. Semi-Final 3: Lake Malawi covering “Please Please Me” by The Beatles

Each finalist will perform two songs: one cover song and one original song to be their candidate entry in hopes of representing Poland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020.We already got Kasia’s and Lake Malawi’s. We don’t know what songs they’ll be singing as well during the show.

The finalists will compete and the winner will be determined by a a 50% split between jury and televote. The show starts at 15:15 CET this Sunday.

  1. Albert singing “Fairytale” is cute. Some people here(won’t name them) will fall even more in love with him.

  2. They’re singing their esc entries accompanied by the live orchestra. “Lucy” sounded better.

  3. Alicja singing “Empires” a string-led dramatic Bond ballad. Good lyrics. I think this is the Polish entry.

  4. Kasia screaming too much “You can count on me”.

  5. Albert and Lake Malawi-Lucy:

  6. Alicja-Empires:

  7. Alicja to Rotterdam!

  8. 3rd place:

  9. 1. Alicja 7/10
    2. Alber 5+/10
    3. Kasia 4/10

  10. “Empires” won ? Ok…Nice song, live needs polishing though. Nothing that will set the scoreboard on fire in May though. Could make a 6-10 Q from the semi (depending always on the quality of the whole semi).

  11. My ranking:

    1. Albert and Lake Malawi-Lucy 9/12
    2.Alicja-Empires-8/12
    3.Kasia-Count on me-6/12

  12. “Empires” is nothing special but at least it hits my soft spot for drama ballads. :)

  13. OK, at this stage there really should be sth more than all these forgettable mediocrities (of course that was also valid before the Polish selection).

  14. So we have another Bond song. With rather unpleasant vocals and let us better not mention the diction.

  15. So far (so good?) :

    1. LTU ★★★★½
    2. BEL ★★★★
    3. CZE ★★★★
    4. NOR ★★★★
    5. ALB ★★★½
    6. ITA ★★★
    7. AUS ★★★
    8. UKR ★★★
    9. POL ★★★
    10. LVA ★★★
    11. SVN ★★★
    12. ARM ★★½
    13. FRA ★★
    14. ESP ★★

  16. 1. Armenia
    2. Lithuania
    3. Italy
    4. Latvia
    5. Spain
    6. Slovenia (NEW)
    7. Poland (NEW)
    8. Belgium
    9. Ukraine (NEW)
    10. Norway
    11. Albania
    12. France
    13. Australia
    14. Czech Republic

Disclaimer: That’s my first impression list. I just sort in the new ones and will only fully rework my ranking after all songs are known.

    • I’m just realizing we don’t only have top 3 the same but also both have Czechia v low – I find it v annoying (tho after this WE’s Khayatastrophe Ukraine is rock bottom for me).

      • After the live performance in Vidbir Czech would be at least one place higher. So there’s a complete match too. ;)

And Ukraine would be lower if I would listen to it more often I think. *lol*

        • LOL… I just can’t stand these (pseudo-) African sounds but prefer it over “white singing”.
FDP candidate in Hamburg is Anna von something? You really can’t make this up.

          • You really don’t need heute show or other satirical polit-shows anymore. FDP is such a self-parody. I wonder what their slogan in Hamburg looked like. Something like: “We’re still against fascists unless they help us to gain some votes.”

            • This Kemmerich can flee to Morocco and move in with Edathy what a disgrace.

            • Probably won’t happen. Edahty likes them younger.

            • I bet keemmerich’s wife – Im sur3e he has one – is a 28-year-old bleach blonde. Still too old for Edathy by far.

            • Lindner would be very popular with Edathy. A 40 yo trapped in the body of a 14 yo.

            • The brain of a 14-year-old in the body of – an amittedly hot – 40-year-old.

            • Hmmm. I can’t think of any sexy German politician. They’re all asexual creatures to me.

            • AKK.
Notice Lindner is prepping to go from designer stubble to a stache.

            • Ewww 😝 🤮
Hear! Hear! The boy’s hitting puberty.
Btw I love the fact we both described FDP as a parody in our comments from 18:34.

            • LOL and yes!
Am I missing something or are we still on the projection of the results from 6 pm as opposed to the first Hochrechnung?

            • I can’t be bothered anymore. I’m googling sexy Lindner pics 😜

            • I’m just saying for a politician of German heritage?
No joke 2 years or so ago I took a pic of myself in front of FDP/Lindner poster and posted on GR with headline “Hot couple looking for 3rd” Messages went crazy. Of course CGN guys are NOT the smartest.

            • Of course they aren’t. Cum on, for what other reason would NRW abitur be so easy to pass!
He’s ok. But like most hot potatoes I’d let him fall quickly.

            • In fairness, 1/3 of CGN fags are from Pfalz. And 1/2 of CGN lesbians!

            • Empirical data excerpt from your well researched essay on CGN fags? What about illustrations? Pie charts?

            • Seriously 1/3 from Pfalz (and related hick accents like Taunus) and 1/3 from Münster and rest of Westphalia. Thx God 20% of others have “migration background” (like you and me).

            • CGN is a sausage magnet. Just like ESC.
              Scottish, right?

            • Passport-wise yes!
I really don’t get this CGN has hot guys thing – lots of guys but most are cheap and boring for such a gay magnet.

            • Cool! Love Scotland. The accent is sexy. They’ve got good music and Edinburgh is one of the most beautiful places I’ve been to.
Generational thing, maybe? Most millenials easily fall for quantity over quality – hence why Netflix & co. are that successful. I’d even go so far as to say that CGN’s the streaming service for the gay crowd. Available all the time.

            • LOL CGN has – for better or worse – a very strong brand; both in generat (carnevale, hence all the white trash out there now) and for gays particular: It’s not uptight like Hamburg; you don’t need to make 100K a year like in MUC and unlike Berlin it doesn’t have the “it’s big you won’t become a junkie right away” thing.

Don’t diss Netflix; their “stuff I like vs junk” ratio is pretty high IMO. BTW just found a Polish series called Pakt – ever heard of it by any chance?

            • Fair enough :)
Nope, I’m not a series guy. My DVD collection is full of movies, but only a handful of series. Crime series? Scandi noir style?

            • I haven’t watched it yet – journo chases shady biz people îs the plot, which sounds appealing. HBO Polska so can’t be junk. Never watched a Polish series tho and too many series on backlog, hence my hope for your expertise!

            • Apparently you never heard of my motto: “It’s not trash if it’s new to you.” ;)
I’m only an expert for Polish actor hunks. Search for Piotr Stramowski. He’d be right up your alley.

            • Thx nice (if I were superficial)!

            • There’s so much to love about him.
Btw I know you just changed your nick, but I’ve got a new suggestion: I’m a celebrity, get him out of me.

            • Hahaha v nice!
I’ll have to wait until someone expresses confusion at the penguin-piglets-typing cats combo first tho!

            • Won’t be long. I’m betting on Madigel – or some other EK cretin. Enjoy the rest of the evening xx

            • U 2 xxx

  17. Now can Albert please just team up with the Lautner bros. and do some videos instead?

  18. I havent been here today, I was in Vrnjačka Banja town. :)

Poland: Fantastic composition and vocals…right up my alley.. :) <3
Good old Polish nostalgic quality I simply love.. ala Kasia and Michal..
This studio is small, in Arena this can be fantastic. :)

  19. 1 🇦🇲 Armenia
    2 🇳🇴 Norway
    3 🇱🇹 Lithuania
    4 🇪🇸 Spain
    5 🇦🇺 Australia
    6 🇺🇦 Ukraine
    7 🇱🇻 Latvia
    8 🇫🇷 France
    9 🇨🇿 Czech Republic
    10 🇦🇱 Albania

    11 🇵🇱 Poland
    12 🇮🇹 Italy
    13 🇧🇪 Belgium
    14 🇸🇮 Slovenia

  20. I think the song is good, but Alicja kinda ruins it. She really just oversings and ends up ruining the song, she needs to calm it down. This reminds me of when those diva female vocalists are chosen to sing the national anthem at sporting events and then ruin the song because they want to show off their vocals and oversing; they always end up getting ripped to shreds in the media afterwards, so I don’t know why they continue doing it. But yeah, if Alicja can learn how to actually sing this song properly, it’d probably be higher on my list, but until then…

    LOVE:
    1) 🇳🇴Norway – Ulrikke Brandstorp – “Attention”
    2) 🇱🇹Lithuania – The Roop – “On Fire”

    LIKE:
    3) 🇦🇱Albania – Arilena Ara – “Shaj”
    4) 🇺🇦Ukraine – Go_A – “Solovey”
    5) 🇦🇲Armenia – Athena Manoukian – “Chains on You”

    EH:
    6) 🇵🇱Poland – Alicja Szemplińska – “Empires”
    7) 🇮🇹Italy – Diodato – “Fai rumore”
    8) 🇧🇪Belgium – Hooverphonic – “Release Me”
    9) 🇱🇻Latvia – Samanta Tīna – “Still Breathing”

    DISLIKE:
    10) 🇨🇿Czech Republic – Benny Cristo – “Kemama”
    11) 🇪🇸Spain – Blas Cantó – “Universo”
    12) 🇫🇷France – Tom Leeb – “The Best In Me”
    13) 🇦🇺Australia – Montaigne – “Don’t Break Me”
    14) 🇸🇮Slovenia – Ana Skolič – “Voda”

    HATE:

  21. Catching up with almost everything (still FdC semi 1 to do)

Another weak MF heat. The 2 Qualifiers are ok songs I guess but with very weak live renditions. Other than that results make sense imo though I would have put William over Frida.

    1. Hanna 6-/10
    2. Victor 6-/10
    3. The duet 6-/10
    4. William 6-/10
    5. Frida 5/10
    6. Jakob 5/10
    7. Nanne 4+/10

MF is again pretty bland for another year. Surprisingly enough other National preselections are pretty weak too

  22. AND finally , FdC Semi 1 – Ranking & scores :

    1. Blasted 8.5/10
    2. Elisa 7.5/10
    3. Throes + The Shine 7/10
    4. Bárbara Tinoco 7/10
    5. Filipe Sambado 4.5/10
    6. Ian Mucznik 4/10
    7. MEERA 4/10
    8. JJaZZ 2.5/10

What a polarising semi! Gutted for Blasted (Grrr!)
