Latvia – LTV, the national broadcaster, hosted the grand final of Supernova, the national final that selects the entry for Rotterdam. 9 acts battle it out and Samanta Tina won with “I’m Still Breating”!
After a few changes were announced by Ilze Jansone, the producer of the show, 26 songs were revealed as the qualified to the following stage. However, with only one final will take place this year, only 8 entries out of the 26 revealed by LTV would qualify for the live show. Juries selected 100% of the finalists, but they ended up picking 9 instead of 8 and no reasons were given to that change.
The hosts tonight wzre Toms Grēviņš, Ketija Šēnberga and Beta Beidz. This was tonight’s running order:

- Katrīna Bindere – I Will Break Your Heart
- Edgars Kreilis – Tridymite
- Katrīna Dimanta – Heart Beats
- Miks Dukurs – I’m Falling for You

- Bad Habits – Sail with You
- Samanta Tīna – “Still Breathing
During the final, the juries gave their feedback but the voting was 100% televote. The jury members are Maarja Merivoo-Parro (Estonia), Gerūta Griniūtė (Lithuania), Petri Mannonen (Finland), Artis Dvarionas (Latvia).
It was revaled that ANNNA got 3rd, Katrīna Dimanta 2nd and Samanta Tīna won!

Nope, this does nothing for me.
I’m sorry but I find this just plain bad. I didn’t follow Supernova but if this was the winner (abd the fact Aminata wrote this) is crazy. It’s a whole lot of shouting with no relevance, and her diction is incredibly poor. With a bit of a tune-up I can see the modern trance genre in there, but the whole thing of ”combining sounds” and trying to make it modern is not appealable to me. I doubt Latvia is escaping the semis with this unless a serious revamp is made.
After last night’s Sanremo blues I embrace anything that’s out of the ordinary. Not just for the sake of being out there, but I genuinely like the composition. The vocals are so so, but she’s got the attitude to sell it. I might not be 100% objective, because I’ve a soft spot for Latvia since my summer holiday in Jūrmala. It’s even good enough to grab my #1 spot right now:

Latvia’s serving true kitchen sink of electro styles from trance to grime in three minutes with off putting performance and singer. Crazy, but most uncool way.
Great that the songs keep coming now. But this ain’t it. Very unpleasant voice and a complete mess of a performance. I doubt we will hear this on Saturday in Rotterdam.

PS I got the exact same top 4 as televoters in Latvia !
As for the winner, it kinda loses the WTF factor after few listenings and all you end up with is a forced mix of genres with bad diction and hysteric performance.
I’m sure jurors will not buy this (they’ve already disregarded anything out of the box) but maybe televoting will support it?
