Tonight: First Super Saturday of 2020

Just like last year, we will witness Super Saturdays with many shows happening all at once. Instead of opening all threads, hard to follow for everyone, we decided to have just one thread for all shows to follow live so we can all discuss them together. Tonight: 3 shows but no finals yet!

Sweden – It’s the most anticipated National Final within the Eurovision Fandom and it starts tonight with their first of the four semi finals. Melodifestivalen is finally here!

Seven Acts will take to the stage at the Saab Arena in Linköping and will compete for the chance to make the grand final on March 7th. The top two will reach the grand final and the acts that come third and fourth will proceed onto the Second Chance round. This week we see the return of Robin Bengtsson (Eurovision 2008), Felix Sandman (MF runner-up in 2018), Malou Prytz, Sonja Aldén and last year’s backing singers The Mamas. The semi-finalists for tonight are:

  1. The Mamas – Move
  2. Suzi P – Moves
  3. Robin Bengtsson – Take A Chance
  4. Malou Prytz – Ballerina
  5. OVÖ – Inga problem
  6. Sonja Aldén – Sluta aldrig gå
  7. Felix Sandman – Boys With Emotions

It’s 100% televote tonight. The first round eliminates the bottom 2 entries. The second round sees 5 entries battling for the four qualifying places, two “direkt til finalen” and two to “andra chasen”. How much do we learn Swedish in MF, really? The show starts at 20:00 (CET) and can be watched here.

Norway – This year’s Melodi Grand Prix will feature 5 semi-finals in order to celebrate the 60 years of Norway’s participation in Eurovision. The 4th semi-final takes place tonight. 4 participants will battle for the televote’s ticket for the final.

The 4 acts taking part for Central Norway are:

  • Hege Bjerk – Pang
  • Magnus Bokn – Over The Sea
  • Nordic Tenors- In This Special Place
  • Oda Loves You – Love Who We Love

The hosts Kåre Magnus Bergh, Ingrid Gjessing Linhave and Ronny Brede Aase will first draw the two duels. The two winners of the duels will then face one another for the televote’s tickets for the final, which will be hosted in Trondheim. A jury already looked at the 5 semi-finalists of each semi-final and picked a winner to qualify directly to the final. Tonight’s jury qualifier is Ulrikke Brandstorp singing Attention.

The show starts at 19:50 CET and you can watch it here.

Lithuania – This year’s Eurovizijos Atranka 2020 resumes tonight with the first semi-final out of 2. 9 acts are taking part and 4 will qualify to the grand final with a vote split with 50% jury and 50% televote.

The hosts are Gabrielė Martirosian and Giedrius Masalskis and Eurovision 2018 artist Ieva Zasimauskaitė. This is tonight’s line-up:

  1. KaYra – Alligator
  2. Viktorija Miškūnaité – The Ocean
  3. Baltos Varnos – Namų Dvasia
  4. Rūta Loop – We Came From The Sun
  5. Gabrielius Vagelis – Tave čia randu
  6. THE ROOP – On Fire
  7. Kristina Jure – My Sound Of Silence
  8. Alen Chicco – Somewhere Out There
  9. Aistė Pilvelytė – Unbreakable

The show starts at 20:00 CET and you can watch it here.

  1. I don’t hate the Czech entry but don’t love it either. I think it will be interesting to see it live, does not seem that straightforward to bring it live. Not very memorable overall, kind of monotonous.

  2. Czech Republic is sticking with sending cute guys but I find the song really annoying, sorry.

  3. CR is in the same semi as Portugal. Will the Portuguese vote for him?

  4. Kemama is alright, would have preferred the poop song, but it’s a fine entry… The Czechs recently knew what to do, so I have faith in them…:-)

  5. So, I was right all along that Benny is the favorite. And I got my hopes up for WAP and know I feel bad :(

  6. About the Czech entry. I like it more than the first I came across to it. What we have here is a current sounds blending different styles. It is tad monotonous though but a strong live performance might bring this to life. It is easily the best so far, ahead of the average and uninspiring ballad of Albania and the Spanish horror.

  7. Ireland says they are sending the next Euphoria this year :)

  8. ERT tweeted that they’re announcing the Greek hopeful in a while. The worst kept secret in the world

  9. OGAE ITALY watched the SR rehearsals and voted Elodie and Diodato as their favorites. Intrigued to listen to Elodie’s song now

  10. EMA 2020 snippets are here YAAy:

    • Was just about to post this lol.

As usual, everything is generally pleasant. I liked Gaja Prestor, Inmate, Klara Jazbec, Imset (gave me punk Zauvijek moja vibes), and Lina Kuduzović. Very disappointed with Tinkara Kovač. What happened to her folksy-pop? This is some 1990s easy listening adult contemporary bs. I think Lina could definitely end up winning this, she’s a strong live singer too.

      • Wow, I like/love almost all snippets, but 3 of them are BY FAR the most promising;

        1. Simon Vadnjal – “Nisi sam” – this sounds anthemic the way I LOVE…
        2. Ana Soklič – “Voda” this sounds as a MASTERPIECE, slow piano and then BOOOOM, and a voice of a drag queen LOL
        3. Božidar Wolfand – Wolf – “Maybe Someday” – this sounds way too amazing to me, probably will be my number 1. this is like throwback to Old Yugoslavia, this rock schlager can easily represent Yugoslavia in 1983.. <3

Tinkara Kovac sounds ABBAish, I dig this as well, seems i will prefer this by far to her ESC entry..
It seems this time we won;t agree.. :P

This NF is slaying! I want full entries NOW..

  11. “Supergirl” by Stefania anounced as the greek entry by ERT right now. ERT spokeswoman says they had at least 20 good proposals but chose Stefania’s very experienced Dream Team.

  12. Will there be articles regarding CZE and GRE, Morgan, Hulluna? :)

  13. Aaaaah confetti at San Remo 2020 red carpet ceremony.. <3 San Remo here I come!! :))))

  14. Norway’s best chance to do well in esc till now:

  15. I just watched that. Lauma lingerie is the sponsor for the video. lol:

  16. You know… I’m not mad at Czechia.

It is a grower, Kemama started midtable for me and grew to my second fav. I like that is earnest and will be unique. In some ways, it’s the more honest Afro-pop entry we had (in a while?) and I believe he can sell it.

  17. Having a very nice Swedish gal moving in the flat and singing BWO’s “Lay Your Love On Me” with her on her first night : CHECK

  18. So many new comments!

  19. Jenny Jenssen – “Mr hello” from 5th MGP Heat has grown on me so much over the day..
i want it in the final, even if I know it is not likely to happen. :(
I hope performance will be good..

  20. I must be among the few who will be liking CZE this year. Sounds “fresh” and different?
It could stand out in May! (in televoting mostly). Sorry for WAP (the other good choice for Czechs, it has always been those two for me!)

As for “GR33C3”, I’m fearing for the worst. Not promising at all.
Could we just send Duska again with her new single “Anemos” ? <3

  21. Monique – “Make me Human” official video:
