ETSC – Every year, the summer is the calm after the storm so it’s the perfect time to resume the highly anticipated the Eurovision Times Song Contest! Each one of you can represent an European country and get to send a song and then vote in a fake Eurovision! Discover the songs this Friday night, 9 PM CET!
Each summer, a good number of regular readers stay around for different reasons (they don’t get breaks from work or don’t go on holidays…) but there aren’t much news to keep us going. So the last few years we introduced all sorts of games. The Eurovision Times Awards (Fridas) and the Douze Points Trivia Quiz kept us going in 2013 and Fridas have made come-backs the past five years. Four years ago, a lot of you asked for a fake Eurovision where each one of us would send songs and get to vote. And that was it: the Eurovision Times Song Contest, from then on known as ETSC.
We’ve therefore had 10 editions of ETSC, two in 2014: July 2014 and August 2014, both won by France; the third edition was held in July 2015 and won by the United-Kingdom; the fourth edition was held in Augusut 2015 and was won by Austria; the fifth edition was held in July 2016 and was won by Israel; the sixth edition was held in August 2016 and won by Denmark; the 7th edition was held in July 2017 and was won again by France; the 8th edition was held in August 2017, and it was the first one that went “blind”, meaning people did not know who sent what. It crowned Greece. Last year, German-speaking countries got their revenge as Switzerland won ETSC 9 and Germany won ETSC 10! The last edition to date was won by Germany’s Elif Demirezer with “Doppelleben“. You can also find it by clicking on the “Specials” section of the site, in the top menu in the red box, just under the site’s name. “ETSC 11 – July 2019” will be officially held in Berlin.
After a first round open for people to sign up with a country and send a song, we got 41 people in. In the meantime, to keep us busy, I made a random draw. I also made personal postcards for each entry which will be revealed along with the songs. Everyone can request to see their own postcards for now.

Rules: the voting will open tomorrow at midnight (time of Paris)! You can vote until wednesday 31st at midnight! Results will be revealed at the end of the week, probably on Friday! In order to do promotion, you need to email me all materials you want to post (including lyrics translation). Once you’ve voted, you can not change your votes, so wait until you’re sure. Also, you have to send me your 11th and 12th in case something goes wrong and we sadly have a DQ. Moreover, you need to send me a city, a hall venue and a host for the next edition if you win!

I have two back-to-back sets, and very close to a 50/50 gender balance. However, 5 of my votes went to entries in the same third (first, middle or third), but I won’t say which! :O

No, I’m just picking up things very quickly from reading comments! Though I did follow the 7th edition a little bit when it was going on, but haven’t paid to attention to any edition since then. That being said, I did one run-through of ETSC 10 between submitting my entry this time around and waiting for the reveal.
You have 9 editions to go through then. Come on hush hush

An established artist like Diana should have total control if she does ESC imo, in particular since RTE tends to make a mess out of anything ESC-related. Just look at this year’s staging.
Totally agree… it worked for Spain much better when they sent established artists in recent years… just thinking of Pastora Soler and Ruth Lorenzo… EDSM was a great Spanish entry as well IMO, although they didn’t score that well…
I like ESDM’s ESC song but the live performance could have been stronger vocally and was a tad lacklustre overall. :(

That’s a lovely part of Portugal. I visited Trancoso and Castelo Rodrigo (the old hilltop village) some years ago. Between the 2 places I witnessed the only bushfire in all my years of travelling. :(

Lina, I did find some time to read about what happened yesterday: Warren and Sanders come across as hyperactive persons, especially Sanders who comes across as angry. Mayor Pete was serene and classy as usual, but American politics is more about show than anything else. Let’s see how Harris and Castro do today.

Listening to some commentators go on and on about hollow sound bites is depressing; that is why I find Buttigieg so unusual; some do not like his not using easy to chew catchphrases often enough.
