ETSC – Every year, the summer is the calm after the storm so it’s the perfect time to resume the highly anticipated the Eurovision Times Song Contest! Each one of you can represent an European country and get to send a song and then vote in a fake Eurovision! Discover the songs this Friday night, 9 PM CET!
Each summer, a good number of regular readers stay around for different reasons (they don’t get breaks from work or don’t go on holidays…) but there aren’t much news to keep us going. So the last few years we introduced all sorts of games. The Eurovision Times Awards (Fridas) and the Douze Points Trivia Quiz kept us going in 2013 and Fridas have made come-backs the past five years. Four years ago, a lot of you asked for a fake Eurovision where each one of us would send songs and get to vote. And that was it: the Eurovision Times Song Contest, from then on known as ETSC.
We’ve therefore had 10 editions of ETSC, two in 2014: July 2014 and August 2014, both won by France; the third edition was held in July 2015 and won by the United-Kingdom; the fourth edition was held in Augusut 2015 and was won by Austria; the fifth edition was held in July 2016 and was won by Israel; the sixth edition was held in August 2016 and won by Denmark; the 7th edition was held in July 2017 and was won again by France; the 8th edition was held in August 2017, and it was the first one that went “blind”, meaning people did not know who sent what. It crowned Greece. Last year, German-speaking countries got their revenge as Switzerland won ETSC 9 and Germany won ETSC 10! The last edition to date was won by Germany’s Elif Demirezer with “Doppelleben“. You can also find it by clicking on the “Specials” section of the site, in the top menu in the red box, just under the site’s name. “ETSC 11 – July 2019” will be officially held in Berlin.
After a first round open for people to sign up with a country and send a song, we got 41 people in. In the meantime, to keep us busy, I made a random draw. I also made personal postcards for each entry which will be revealed along with the songs. Everyone can request to see their own postcards for now.

Rules: the voting will open tomorrow at midnight (time of Paris)! You can vote until wednesday 31st at midnight! Results will be revealed at the end of the week, probably on Friday! In order to do promotion, you need to email me all materials you want to post (including lyrics translation). Once you’ve voted, you can not change your votes, so wait until you’re sure. Also, you have to send me your 11th and 12th in case something goes wrong and we sadly have a DQ. Moreover, you need to send me a city, a hall venue and a host for the next edition if you win!

I feel like I am at an advantage being multi-lingual as I can understand the meaning of the songs better than everyone else. My German is a little rusty, but I am getting so much from the German song that others will not.
Aren’t the german lyris about being masculine, straight-acting, no femme, no fat? :-P

Exceedingly happy with life atm. Love is indeed a many splendored thing!! Am enjoying work since leaving the bar. The apartments are much better and am getting great reviews. I may be taking on more later on but will need to get myself mobile. Buses are fine here but if I need to be in Monaco or Antibes then it would require a more quick and personal mode of transport. Still, something to work on.

yes, but that’s not what people are waiting for through the entire year; if it’s implied there’ll be two editions, and people pack songs accordingly, it’s unfair to have one less… moreoever, I don’t take part in other contests because I have like zero time now for them, so I do in the summer and I intend to keep it alive… However, I hope people understand I take some holidays… I did one ETSC the day before I got married and one as my grandfather passed away… I did it through it all!

You are doing a great job, Morgan, and I like the way you are doing things. VFoS/FdlC have always struck me as a bit rushed: Let’s get over with this edition as quickly as possible so that we can have another one … ;) :)
And this isn’t meant to be a criticism of VFoS/FdlC. Some people are very enthusiastic and have hundreds of songs lined up … whereas I was always lagging behind eventually submitting a no hoper for Liechtenstein, Botswana, Lesotho or Eswatini (or Swaziland as it was called back then).
I kinda like how cozy it feels, we don’t rush the reveal, but it’s still a one long night ahead of us ahah

At the end of the first night of the second debate, Bernie and Warren were the clear winners and mopped the floor with all the moderates who tried to attack them. Williamson had a very surprisingly strong performance as well after the spectacle that was her first debate, and I think she may hang around longer than we expected. Everyone else should drop out imminently.
