ET Awards 2019: Best Backings!

Eurovision 2019 – This year we resume the “Eurovision Times Awards” to give prizes (the Fridas) for the best in every category! And you get to vote! Today, we resume the polls with the two categories focused on the backings and the backdrop!

2019 will be the seventh year for Eurovision Times to organize a new contest (you can check 2013’s results here, the 2014’s ones here, the 2015’s ones here, the 2016’s ones here, the 2017’s ones here and the 2018’s ones here). As with the past few years, our blog hosts now three contests: TEKO which takes place before the contest and the “Eurovision Times Awards” after the contest, with “Premath/Aftermath” which compares our rankings before and after the contest. The principle of the ET Awards is simple, in each categories, the staff of this website will nominate a few entries per categories and open polls for the public to vote in them so we can reveal afterwards all the winners. The winners recieve an imaginary trophee, entitled the Fridas in hommage to Frida Boccara, the French Eurovision winner in 1969 with “Un jour, un enfant“.

The nineth award is in the “Artistic” category and it’s “Best Backings”. Former winners are: Netherlands (2013), Slovenia (2014), Belgium (2015), Belgium (2016), Moldova (2017) and Israel (2018). Here are the results of the recommendations made by the regular users of Eurovision Times in this category:

  • 17 Sweden
  • 10 Azerbaijan
  • 9 Albania
  • 7 Georgia
  • 5 San Marino
  • 2 Australia
  • 2 Denmark
  • 2 France
  • 2 North Macedonia
  • 2 Spain
  • 2 Switzerland
  • 2 United-Kingdom
  • 1 Belarus
  • 1 Czech Republic
  • 1 Malta
  • 1 Portugal

However, it’s down to the staff of Eurovision Times to choose the official nominees, including unpopular or controversial ones! But it’s up to you to vote in our poll below which entry had the best backings this year! Backings imply anyone on stage adding an artistic value to the overall package (singing, dancing, playing an instrument…) You need to click on the country’s name to be redirected to the video of the song. The nominees in alphabetical order are:

Rules: the polls will be open for a week. At the end of the week, an article will announce the winner of the category but not the detailed results. The full results will however be given to you once all polls are closed so that you don’t get influenced (we never know) in your following votes. Every IP gets only one vote, please do not cheat, do take in consideration to watch very careful to the props before voting and do not vote necessarily for your favorite song but vote regarding to the category. Of course, it’s pointless to vote only for your own country unless you’re really certain it should win. May the best win!

  1. France, Cyprus and Denmark also used backings to enhance their presentations imo…

as usual, Azerbaijan deciding to hide the singers prevents it from being nominated

  2. Fantastic Georgia for me. :)

  3. Since Sweden will rightfully win this, I’m sending my vote of support to fantastic San Marinese ladies!!!

  4. I don’t think Sweden has competition here of any kind.

  5. 1. Sweden
    2. Albania
    3. Georgia
    4. Switzerland
    5. San Marino

    Voting for The Mamas!

  6. I loved ALL of these! It would be too easy to hand it to Sweden with the Disco Divas but it was San Marino’s backings that helped them into the final that clinches it for me

  7. Israel won this award last year ._.
Albania gets my vote, I really enjoyed them, one of the good things from this year :D The guys from Georgia were good too.

  8. San Marino because that show was at least 50% about the backings.

  9. I think Sweden will win, but in all honesty I was not a huge fan. Voted for Albania because I think they added the most to the performance.

  10. My nominees were San Marino, Sweden and Spain. My vote goes to San Marino where the backings was an even more important part of the entry than the main singer :-P

  11. Switzerland’s dancers were also excellent but in my nominations I wanted to recognise Spain which also did well in this category!

  12. I voted for Georgia closely followed by Albania.

  13. I was so betweem Georgia and Sweden…but I had to vote for Mamas..

  14. My vote went to Georgia’s choir. Mamas are a close second.

  15. It’s between Sweden and Switzerland for me and I’m going for Switzerland’s backings who I thought contributed more to the whole show. :)

  16. The swedish mamas gets my vote, they did so much for the overall performance and John! #Represent! San Marino deserves a shoutout and the other three were great that added a lot, but nothing significant imo

  17. […] and the first this evening! You can click to look at the full recommendations and nominations from last week’s article here! There were 66 recommendations for 16 countries in the first round and 96 votes were cast in an […]
