Eurovision 2019 Rehearsals: Day 8

Eurovision 2019 – With two weeks to go to the contest, daily rehearsals start this Saturday and of course the Eurovision Times will do its best to cover them; here’s to the second rehearsals of the finalists: pics and vids will be officially released and we get to discuss, debate, analyze, predict…

So this is how it’ll work for the next 10 days or so: we will resume the system from the last four years. There is an article for the day’s rehearsals published in the morning (or the night before) with the calendar (this year, tthe official site don’t seem to help look for rehearsals, so on this article you can see a recap). You can comment all day on it, based on all the info you can gather around and as soon as I can, I’ll get working on a recap article with links to pictures, videos, etc. However, I do work so I’ll do that at the latest in the evening, sooner if possible, depending. Usually, the girls are down there and as you know, this year the girls couldn’t make it to the Tel Aviv rehearsals.

So we’re all counting on you guys to post in the comment section all the links you find and discuss all material out there. Hope it works out great for everyone, and already a big cheers to all the sites who will post their own made materials.

Here’s tomorrow’s schedule: Finalists – Second rehearsal

  • 10:00-10:20 Israel
  • 10:25-10:45 France
  • 10:50-11:10 Spain
  • 11:15-11:35 Italy
  • 11:40-12:00 United-Kingdom
  • 13:05-13:25 Germany

There will therefore be 6 countries getting their second taste of the stage. The second rehearsal is 20 minutes long.

This is how it works. As usual, in second go, countries reveal much more. It is also followed by an official press conference. The official site publishes photo sets from rehearsals and a long video of what it might actually look like on TV!

Then in the evening, at 7PM local time, we get the opening ceremony: the infamous red carpet (turned “orange” carpet this year, because of MyHeritage) will feature all 41 performing artists all suited up (well, except maybe Hatari)…

  1. Spain gets second half too

  2. Spain second half. They are obviously closing the show.

  3. Bookers so far do not believe in Spain. I so disagree. This may as well replace Switzerland in top10 in case it works on tellie.

    • It is competent but too overloaded I think. Fokas has thrown everything in.

    • I’m pretty sure it will and as sales person Miki is in par with John.

    • If this happens our penguin will scream, tear out his hair and eventually faint … ;)

      • LOL indeed – everything I see and hear makes it still seem like the mess it is to me. And all positive comments on blogs and boards are usually how likeable the singer is, by which 99% of the time gay guys actually mean “he’s hot”.

        • LOL
Everything that’s going on atm seems utterly surreal to me because I am still stuck in the pre-rehearsal world both visually and acustically. I love the experience because it feels like having taken some lovely drugs and living in a parallel universe where people speak in strange tongues for some time. :)

          • I find it doesn’t make much difference for perception whether you look at the clips or not as long as yo read blog comments. I only look at a few clips, either stuff I like (I, CH) or stuff I know will be a hilarious trainwreck (POR, GER) but you get the gist of it from the comments. I actually found out more about stuff I didn’t watch (e.g. RUS is not as bombastic as expected, AZE does.. something big) than from the clips I saw.

        • He is hot, but he also sings and dances like no other this year. He can do it at the same time and with same pace as his dancers.

          • If you think he can sing you’re no longer permitted to dismiss Conan’s singing. On the plus side, with Miki you get to for one, him and the beaver on his head!

            • He sings and dances very well this song and he’s just the man to do it. The structural hate for him, Chingiz and Luca is just old queens lamenting their best before selling date. It’s same every year. Can’t remember commenting Conan’s singing.

            • Yeah, you. Am I really only one here acknowledging Miki’s and dancers’ performance ? Check again 😃

            • I was more focused on the singing/shouting with my comment – I’ll see whether he can dance next Saturday. Seriously what’s with the Wicker man tho???

            • I really don’t know and apartment block could back fire big time too, especially with lazy camera works. Fokas got both cheap. First one is a demo from Take That’s Progress tour, latter the set from
West End remake of Sondeim’s Company.

            • Fokas seems to be in overdrive with his boxes this year. I LOVE Company I actually saw it with Elaine Stritch (I’m so not gay, yeah, bro!) so haven’t seen it since.

            • And as for Elaine Stritch, it’s just hats off!

  4. Italy 2nd half

    • This is a musical version of “draw my life” videos on youtube… They are the most watched ones btw

    • I think this is coming together very well overall. He sounds better than in the national final for as well.

  5. He exudes confidence despite his singing. And they got the aesthetic part right.

  6. Spain : He explained whats going on in an interview with the house and the robot but I still feel they should have just let him and his dancers do their thing on stage. All this is unnecessary.

  7. The full results of the Norwegian Preshows are as follows :

    1. Cyprus – 92
    2. Italy – 88
    3. Azerbaijan – 85
    4. Malta – 83
    5. Netherlands – 82
    6. Switzerland – 81
    7. Sweden – 74
    8. Czech Republic – 69
    9. Poland – 67
    10. Armenia – 62
    11. France – 61
    12. Spain – 60
    13. Greece – 59
    14. United Kingdom – 59
    15. Montenegro – 59 !!!!!!!!!!
    16. Romania – 56
    17. Iceland – 55
    18. Denmark – 54
    19. Russia – 51
    20. Lithuania – 51
    21. Ireland – 51
    22. Belarus – 51
    23. Hungary – 48
    24. Albania – 48
    25. Slovenia – 47
    26. San Marino – 46
    27. Israel – 45
    28. Austria – 44
    29. Belgium – 43
    30. North Macedonia – 43
    31. Australia – 39
    32. Germany – 37
    33. Latvia – 35
    34. Serbia – 33
    35. Moldova – 32
    36. Georgia – 30
    37. Finland – 28
    38. Estonia – 22
    39. Croatia – 21
    40. Portugal – 14 !!!!!!!!!!!!

    • It bugs me that all three preview shows from NOR, FIN and ISL have Telemoveis as last of ALL 41 entries!

      • The song is just too African, Arabic and Portuguese for them.

        • I can understand if they don’t like it but all of them ranked it 41/41, below songs as MNE, HRV, MDA etc… It’s weird

          • Portugal is not a popular country in the bubble. The bubble is very conservative in the worst sense of the word.

            • #excuseoftheday

There is no country more conservative musically in esc than Portugal. Even if this year there were steps forward, staging had been a let down.
I will agree though the bubble is conservative thus why it has embraced Portugal. The professionalism and real world music Sweden brings creates the aversion that is expressed towards them the last years. Thus the bullying and attacks Benjamin had to sustain with the excuse of an unfortunate comment vs the complete immunity Sobral enjoys for being an insufferable asshole.

              Cheers !

          • It’s likely seen as a joke entry due to the stage show.

      • I think Portugal might still qualify, they could be saved by the juries?

        • Telemoveis definitely deserves the last ticket out of the PRT/BEL/EST/SMR bunch. I believe POL is already in. The surprise NQ could be HUN imo

          • I actually think POR is in the same bunch as POL-ICE-AUS, i.e. what will be seen as the loud/crazy numbers by most viewers. BLR and SMR target similar audience and EST will probably benefit from being in neither batch.

  8. KAN amateurishness is starting to get on my nerves. Again shots from the other side of the world and there is a hand in the foreground in part of the footage.

They are competent, seem to have rehearsed quite a lot even though the set is a tad too much.

  9. Germany draws first half. This will be thrown in at number 2-7 and be done with.

  10. Lots of comments last night at Euroclub that the long shots by KAN is to give impression of a much bigger and full arena to combat the bad press of ticket sales fiasco etc.

  11. France 3rd in betting odds!
    AHAHAHAHAHAHA

  12. Only 8 spots left for the second half of the Grand Final !!!
Israel will sing from #14 and every BIG 5 country minus DEU will perform from second half!

    • UK 19 will be forgotten when compared to Sweden 19. It’s so sad to see a country like the UK sending stuff like this.

  13. I cannot quite believe how bad Germany is. I’ve tried to block it out this Eurovision, but today I had to suffer it. I hate for people to get nil points but I cannot see where this will get any votes from.

  14. EBU is still not giving us the Italian exclusive footage :P

  15. And more wide shots ! Truly terrible direction. Mahmood is great but I mostly cannot see him. What are they thinking ?!

  16. Here is how I think the televoting and jury scoreboards could look like for the 1st semi and these are the qualifiers that resulted:

    Televoting
    1. Greece – 155
    2. Australia – 140
    3. Cyprus – 135
    4. Iceland – 120

    6. Hungary – 88
    7. San Marino – 83
    8. Serbia – 65
    9. Estonia – 57
    10. Poland – 53
    11. Belarus – 47
    12. Georgia – 40
    13. Portugal – 35
    14. Slovenia – 27
    15. Belgium – 14
    16. Finland – 11
    17. Montenegro – 5

    Jury
    1. Greece – 165
    2. Australia – 147
    3. Czech Republic – 124
    4. Slovenia – 110
    5. Iceland – 99
    6. Portugal – 93
    7. Poland – 83
    8. Serbia – 72
    9. Belgium – 63
    10. Hungary – 54
    11. Cyprus – 51
    12. Georgia – 44
    13. Estonia – 27
    14. San Marino – 21
    15. Belarus – 14
    16. Finland – 7
    17. Montenegro – 2

    Combined
    1. Greece – 320
    2. Australia – 287
    3. Czech Republic – 229
    4. Iceland – 219
    5. Cyprus – 186
    6. Hungary – 142
    7. Serbia – 137
    8. Slovenia – 137
    9. Poland – 136
    10. Portugal – 128
    —————————
    11. San Marino – 104
    12. Estonia – 84
    13. Georgia – 84
    14. Belgium – 77
    15. Belarus – 61
    16. Finland – 18
    17. Montenegro – 7

Do you think this could be fairly accurate ?

    • Quite realistic. But I don’t see PRT that high with juries… Btw, how did you do those maths? :P

      • Haha, I checked in the previous years how much pts each place gets in each scoreboard usually and I applied it for this year. Also I made sure the totals are the same in each scoreboard. :P

        • I see, so you actually did a ranking for both sets. I believe SRB is above ISL and PRT with juries

          • Yes and then granted them a reasonable number of pts according to their places.
It could be but from what I noticed in recent years this kind of song doesn’t do that well with the juries usually and I thought they might go with something more original as there are only a few jury friendly songs in the semi.

            • It’s also interesting you have BEL out. I’m leaving it behind too but can’t decide between SMR/EST/PRT or even GEO instead!

            • I’m pretty sure BEL will be low with the televoting similar to last year and I don’t see it too high with the juries either considering he is not too good live, so I think it’s out, but it could still sneak in, who knows. If Portugal gets in top 7 with the juries I think it can get 10th overall, if not then I think San Marino might sneak in, considering it will probably be top 7 in televoting?

    • I can’t see Greece winning the televote…it’s not instant enough and funny enough I think people will be laughing at/with San Marino enough to somewhat forget Greece a bit. I still see Iceland as the televote winner in this semi.

Everything else looks good, other than I think Belgium does better with the televote and qualifies ahead of Portugal.

      • You might be right about Greece in televoting, I thought diaspora might push it in the top, but it might not be appealing enough to the rest of the people ? I hope Iceland wins the televoting, we’ll see.

        • It’s a very artsy staging style that I think the juries will love but televoters will be middling. Diaspora will help them get Top 5 with the televote though for sure. I think it will definitely be Top 3 overall in this semi.

  17. UK : they provided a very uneventful part of the song, far from the peak but it looks and sounds pretty good. Michael has the vocals for sure. Again, I think it will get lost in the final.

Germany : finally some more intimate direction. They sound better than in the german nf and the presentation is tasteful. Again, I dont see the audience for that though. Women in general ?

  18. I like second rehearsal of Italy more and he sounds better now..
UK and Germany have very good rehearsals!
But I still miss rotating platform for Germany.. :(
    France is so yuck..
    I dont like Spain..
Michael Rice seems really good in the second rehearsal..

    • Yeah I don’t understand why they are ditching the rotating platform – it was easily the most memorable thing about the NF performance.

  19. WARNING: Spain might make it to my top 10 now (definitely liked the rehearsal more than Azerbaijan… it’s down to Armenia, Hungary, Albania and Serbia who are above Spain in my pre-rehearsals rankings to be better lol)
