Eurovision 2019 Rehearsals: Day 6

Eurovision 2019 – With two weeks to go to the contest, daily rehearsals start this Saturday and of course the Eurovision Times will do its best to cover them; here’s for the second rehearsals to the first half of semifinal 2: pics and vids will be officially released and we get to discuss, debate, analyze, predict…

So this is how it’ll work for the next 10 days or so: we will resume the system from the last four years. There is an article for the day’s rehearsals published in the morning (or the night before) with the calendar (this year, tthe official site don’t seem to help look for rehearsals, so on this article you can see a recap). You can comment all day on it, based on all the info you can gather around and as soon as I can, I’ll get working on a recap article with links to pictures, videos, etc. However, I do work so I’ll do that at the latest in the evening, sooner if possible, depending. Usually, the girls are down there and as you know, this year the girls couldn’t make it to the Tel Aviv rehearsals.

So we’re all counting on you guys to post in the comment section all the links you find and discuss all material out there. Hope it works out great for everyone, and already a big cheers to all the sites who will post their own made materials.

Here’s tomorrow’s schedule:

Second rehearsals

  • 10:00-10:20 Greece
  • 10:25-10:45 San Marino
  • 10:50-11:10 Armenia
  • 11:15-11:35 Ireland
  • 11:40-12:00 Moldova
  • 13:05-13:25 Switzerland
  • 13:30-13:50 Latvia
  • 13:55-14:15 Romania
  • 14:20-14:40 Denmark
  • 14:45-15:05 Sweden
  • 15:10-15:30 Austria

First rehearsals

  • 16:00-16:30 Israel
  • 16:40-17:10 France
  • 17:20-17:50 Spain
  • 18:00-18:30 Italy
  • 18:40-19:10 United-Kingdom
  • 19:20-19:50 Germany

There will therefore be 11 countries getting their second taste of the stage. The second rehearsal is 20 minutes long. Then the Big 5 + Host get their first rehearsals.

This is how it works. As usual, in second go, countries reveal much more. It is also followed by an official press conference. The official site publishes photo sets from rehearsals and a video of what it might actually look like on TV!

  1. Gooooooooooosh Germaaaaaaaaany!!!!!! Yaaaas!!!! :-* <3

  2. Well they sound better than Miki and look less nuts than Conan but that’s not saying much.

    • Agreed, and over the years I have always criticised my “native” country Spain for good or for bad, records here will bear me out, to call a” spade a spade” as they say, just to defend a flag via a song, however bad the song is, has never been my objective, of course I’m disappointed with Spanish staging, as I’d hoped Miki would keep to original one, alas not to be, but in the end it’s an annual song contest and for several months of the year there are plenty of other more important things to be dealing with!

      • Spain and Germany are 90% of time totally hopeless unfortunately… I don’t necessarily want to win but it would be nice to have a song and show that’s not embarrassing.

        • Agreed, but that is generally fault of the national broadcaster, at least here in Spain, Believe me as a journalist here and having worked for TVE (Catalunya) it’s the worst media channel I have to work with, in the end, general population don’t want reality show reject representing them, they want Diana Navarro or Pablo Alboran etc

          • I liked Muérdeme as a song but the presentation was epically bad.

            • Indeed but its well known, despite the fact her song was favourite she didn’t want to go to Eurovision at all,and thus hoped her friend Miki could go, thus she gave such a lame performance in NF, why I hate TVE depending on OT crap

            • The costumes etc were awful, too – it seems like they recycled the house or whatever it was for the show here. Our song just totally ditched the main element of their already lame pre-selection show… so what are your favorites in Tel Aviv?

  3. Sweden comes out today as hands down winner. I really loved the staging and the performance in the MF, this is same, just even better. Very strong, very confident.

Switzerland is on fire. This is big crowd television entertainment. Luca’s so much better than expected both singing and dancing.

San Marino is exactly what is should be: fun, nostalgic Euro disco in cool, vibrant, yet elegant setting. Our very own ageing disco diva is just right person to deliver it, even though a bit under weather today.

Austria has very bad snippet, but it looks very promising from the little we actually can see and Pænda delivers vocally. Joga outfit begs for Barbara Drex as her hair.

Dushka delivers vocally but she is too introverted on stage, obviously musician, not a performer. That makes sense of the staging strategy. It’s a cover up: Look squirrell! It looks now a bit too much time to time, but cleverly directed could turn out to be good.

Armenia was very strong and convincing to me. Really liked the rock esthetics of it. Song is also growing here.

Denmark. Too sugary, too fake Zoë!
Lithuania. Indifferent camp fire singalong looks like it sounds – boring.
Ireland. They should have do more Roy Lichtenstein and less Happy Days. Now it’s a weird mix that underlined the fact that song is a bit boring teenie weenie pop.
Romania. Addams Family the Musical is missing their set. I’m totally missing the link with the song.
    Moldova. Enough said this morning.

  4. So we are going to Sweden next year.

    • Not sure about that, but Sweden turned out to be contender.

      • We can safely rule out Italy by now. Not with that performance. Russia is so over the top, that rarely ever works. Let’s see what Duncan will do tomorrow. Apparently there is still a reveal we didn’t see in the first rehearsal. (The vintage Yamaha CP70 is there to stay by the way.)

        • everyone killed it “for sure” except Netherlands, Australia, Iceland and Sweden. Russia can’t do that well with juries with such a song and a totally in your fave performance doesn’t feel as “smart” as 2016 (but I like the song much more)

        • If it’s his then it really is his safety blanket! Well worn and beautiful sounding instrument.
Amidst all this circus the approach might be just what is needed, piano or no piano. These kind of stagings are also very hard to judge by the snippets. I wish he makes good contact with viewers. realky make us feel the song.

    • At this stage it looks like Italy has knocked itself out; Switzerland doesn’t quite make the cut and Russia never was a contender – so probably Netherlands, Sweden (likely compromise winner though I still can’t remember it) or Czechia (real dark horse).
