Tonight: Third Super Saturday of 2019

Just like last year, we will witness Super Saturdays with many shows happening all at once. Instead of opening all threads, hard to follow for everyone, we decided to have just one thread for all shows to follow live so we can all discuss them together. Tonight is the biggest one: 10 shows!

HungaryA Dal, the Hungarian selection show, resumes tonight with 9 artists performing in the second semi-final, hoping to progress through to the  grandfinal stage. Freddie (Hungary, 2016) will host. Jury members are Bogi Dallos, Miklós, Misi Mező, Lilla Vincze and Feró Nagy.

The nine performers tonight are (not the draw yet):

  • Timi Antal feat. Gergő Demko – Kedves Világ!
  • Fatal Error – Kulcs
  • Mocsok 1 Kölykök – Egyszer
  • Nomad – A remény hídjai
  • Gergő Oláh – Hozzád bújnék
  • Joci Pápai – Az én apám
  • Bogi Nagy – Holnap
  • Ruby Harlem – Forró
  • Gergő Szekér – Madár, repülj!

The rules from the former years apply. The nine acts will present live their respective song and the jury members will comment and grade them. A fifth grade from online apps will be added. The Top 3 from these grades qualify straight to the final. A fourth act is saved by 100% televote as a wildcard. Three heats, 18 semifinalists split in two sets of 9 and then 8 finalists at the very end of this long national final that’s now a classic of esc season!

Watch Semi 2 live here from 19:30 (CET).

  1. Done Croatia, a horror show, while more professional a hosting than Montenegro, the song level is worthy of esc 2005, and believe it or not the best “song” won it :/ Manntra was my personal favorite of that awful NF!

  2. FdC – Semi 1 : Ranking, comments and scores

    1. Telemóveis : The vocals were just like in the audio version minus some improvisations. I’m impressed!!! Skip the cringey dancer, it looks embarassing and cheap ! 9/10
    2. Perfeito : A disney ballad but it’s quite effective and better than their 2010 entry in the same genre for sure! He is very charming vocally without unnecessary acrobatics (cough Filipa) 8-/10
    3. É o que é : Simple, honest and warm ! 8-/10
    4. Inércia : Very intiguing, if only her vocals were more up my alley : 7.5/10
    5. Mais brilhante que mil sóis : Her high register is annoying but I love the calm parts of the song and the backing harmonies. 7-/10
    6. Hoje : Over the top and dramatic but it sounds more interesting than A Dois in the mainstream field. 6.5/10
    7. O meu sonho : She is good but the song just plods along with a very monotonous orchestration. 6/10
    8. A Dois : Harmless but rather radiobland, 6/10

  3. Söngvakeppnin – Semi 2 : Ranking, comments and scores

    1. Heiðrún Anna : I’m surprised this didn’t even get the wildcard ! Fresh and cute. Awful results last night compared to 1st semi where qualifiers made sense! 8/10
    2. Friðrik Ómar : I’m not a fan of his rather dated and pompous entry but he elevates the whole thing live. 7-/10
    3. Ívar Daníels : Harmless but forgettable : 6-/10
    4. Tara Mobee : This qualified, REALLY? It was a carcrash live. Those vocals… 4/10
    5. Elli Grill, Skaði & Glymur : Embarassing not even catchy as Dolly Style in MF. 2/10

Average of all 10 entries : 6.30 (same as A Dal and EMA)

  4. Vidbir Semi 2 :

The dislike/like ratio for Kazka’s performance is insane. Sure she sounded flat but it’s not hateful for sure and the song easily beats every other one in the preselection.

Freedom-jazz are very convincing live, unfortunately the song is the predictable trumpet dance/house pastiche we ‘ve been served for quite a few years by now.

Khayat was right up my alley. Such an undeserved Non Qualifier. I also found Kira Mazur’s entry quite distinctive !

I really can’t understand the fuss about “My road”. Except from the good vocals, song is another filler material.

And finally Ivan Navi brought the weakest Vidbir entry this year :)

    Ranking and scores :
    1. Kazka : 8.5/10
    2. Khayat : 8/10
    3. Freedom Jazz : 8/10
    4. Braii : 7/10
    5. Kira Mazur : 6+/10
    6. Laud : 6/10
    7. Anna Maria : 6/10
    8. Ivan Navi : 5/10

Average of all 16 entries at 6.88 which makes Vidbir together with the Australian Final (unpopular opinion) the most likeable preselection this year imo!
