ETSC – Every year, the summer is the calm after the storm so it’s the perfect time to resume the highly anticipated the Eurovision Times Song Contest! Each one of you can represent an European country and get to send a song and then vote in a fake Eurovision! 42 of you have expressed the desire to join the July 2018 edition and a random draw was made! Discover the songs tonight!
Each summer, a good number of regular readers stay around for different reasons (they don’t get breaks from work or don’t go on holidays…) but there aren’t much news to keep us going. So the last few years we introduced all sorts of games. The Eurovision Times Awards (Fridas) and the Douze Points Trivia Quiz kept us going in 2013 and Fridas have made come-backs the past five years. Four years ago, a lot of you asked for a fake Eurovision where each one of us would send songs and get to vote. And that was it: the Eurovision Times Song Contest, from then on known as ETSC.
We’ve therefore had 8 editions of ETSC, two in 2014: July 2014 and August 2014, both won by France; the third edition was held in July 2015 and won by the United-Kingdom; the fourth edition was held in Augusut 2015 and was won by Austria; the fifth edition was held in July 2016 and was won by Israel; the sixth edition was held in August 2016 and won by Denmark; the 7th edition was held in July 2017 and was won again by France. The last edition to date was ETSC 8, held in August 2017, and it was the first one that went “blind”, meaning people did not know who sent what. It crowned Greece’s Dimitra Selemidou feat. Phoevos Delivoriás with “O monos ke i moni“. For more information, you can discover our new page dedicated to the contest, with its history, all songs participating and the rankings here. You can also find it by clicking on the “Specials” section of the site, in the top menu in the red box, just under the site’s name. “ETSC 9 – July 2018” will be officially held in Thessaloniki and as for venue, it’ll be the Music Hall, nicknamed by locals as “Megaron”!
After a first round open for people to sign up with a country and send a song, we got 43 people in. In the meantime, to keep us busy, I made a random draw. I also made personal postcards for each entry which will be revealed along with the songs. Everyone can request to see their own postcards for now. Someone could not send a song in time, so we move to 41 official entries in this edition and will see if Australia can be featured as a guest song in the interval act since it’s the missing entry!
Here are a few facts about the 41 entries:
- This is a rather well spread out contest: 20 female vocals / 19 male vocals, plus 2 duets, an almost equal result for once!
- If I did not make mistakes (but I do every year, sorry!), we have these languages: 19 english, 4 russian, 2 arabic, 2 greek, 1 albanian, 1 armenian, 1 bulgarian, 1 estonian, 1 italian, 1 latvian, 1 macedonian, 1 polish, 1 portuguese, 1 romanian, 1 slovenian, 1 slovakian, 1 spanish, 1 turkish!
- We only have 1 former esc artist and 3 former NF artists!
People are starting to gather at the Thessaloniki Megaron. Here are the hosts for tonight’s show: Katia Zygouli (model-actress), Nikos Kouris (actor), and Avgoustos Kortó (writer).
Before the show starts, we get the live reprise of the winning song:
And soon… the entries of ETSC 9!
Rules: the voting will open at midnight Tuesday 17th (time of Paris)! You can vote until Friday 27th at midnight! Results will be revealed the following weekend (Saturday or Sunday depending what people like best)! In the meantime, you can do promo your entry in the comment section here. Once you’ve voted, you can not change your votes, so wait until you’re sure. Also, you have to send me your 11th and 12th in case something goes wrong and we sadly have a DQ. Moreover, you need to send me a city, a hall venue and a host for the next edition if you win!
Good luck everyone!
The claws are out – I think results night is going to be nasty….
I think this is way too stylish and they seem to have good reason to fight. We desperately need better script editor 😃
Indeed. It seems to be the same old stuff over and over again with one dimensional characters.
No wonder majority of viewers get dead bored and just want to switch the channel.
Dickens’s adaptations are fine, but when they do the same one every time it gets tiresome.
There’s not much to expect on 37th round of Great Expectations.
Indeed. Hopefully the 38th round will include more nuances in the performances and a bit more drama.
I hope Results night will be on Saturday.it will be more enjoyable and stress-free for me.
Why’s that? I’m still open to both, though it means a tad more work on Saturday!
Because we need to go to work the next day.
hmm, it’s just 24h to work on logos and scoreboards is very short and basically means no life for me on Saturday! I can manage though, I think… Or we cut it half and say Sunday early like 4PM
Or 7pm?
Because Sunday i’ll always have to look at the clock.Early morning wake-up.Anyway,it’s what suits more people and you of course that matters.
I’m ok with an early Sunday night! I need to be good with clocks though ;)
For me Sunday works better. On Saturday I’ll have late birthday guests.
Happy birthday🎉🎉🎉
Thanks! :)
Do whats best for you, personally I work early on Sunday too, so idc which haha
I’d much prefer to have the results on the Sunday evening as I’ll be celebrating my mom’s birthday tomorrow in central London, so at least I can see the results in real-time! :D
The Israeli votes have been submitted.
Greece getting ready for the results:
Is Thanassis ready? To wave his flag and blow his whistle?
Of course!
I’ll be going home on Sunday so I won’t be able to make the results sadly, but nethertheless come on Austria!
Request Saturday then. Let’s become the Saturday campaign 😃
Nah I think we should just leave it for Morgan to decide :)
Oh yeah happy belated birthday to all late july borns!
Thanks!
La mulți ani! :)

Still 6 people to vote, so if you have a way of contacting them and reminding them besides my own email, don’t hesitate: Max, Cyphermusic, Luke, Rosalina, Ovidarch and Brittany!
I hope we won’t have either any DQs or nul pointers.
3 people voted on the exact same time so only 3 to go ;)
As for njl pointers I will drop hints for the prediction game at midnight ;)
Fingers crossed.
Ovi always vote last. Will try and hold off Tristian.
interesting, am guessing Barcelona, where I live is a no 1 holiday spot, due to the number of foreign people I hear these days, as always during this period, you only hear foreign languages downtown!
https://www.cntraveler.com/galleries/2015-06-03/the-10-most-visited-cities-of-2015-london-bangkok-new-york
Among the top10 I haven’t been to Seoul, Tokyo and Dubai…I am planning to visit first 2,I have no idea how Dubai made to this list
Why Russia is so agressive even here?
Didn’t notice our : Armenia Noah’s Route, Your Route
Would love to have results tomorrow if possible!
eg serbia v Espana via the water polo final,, ;.)

Artists I knew in advance:
Otto Dix (Russia)
Femme Vanille (Netherlands)
Florence Walsh (UK)
I remember there was a song by someone called Blitzkids Mvt in the German 2013 final, but I don’t remember the song.
I suppose you alos knew Sirusho aka the Flying Breasts and Postcards since it was one of Dino’s artists in VFoS.
Oops. Of course I knew Sirusho. My bad…
Yes they were in! :)
VOTE FINLAND
For the final night of promotional material, here is one that looks more familiar:
That tiger-lion-mastiff-Persian?
Mood.
Hicks must have painted the “lion” last. If he did it first he would surely have ripped it up and started again? Its crap!
The lion’s facial expression reminds me of Grumpy. :P
I kept looking at the lion thinking it reminded me of someone…You are right the lion is Dino! :)
Is he that well groomed too? That blow dry is impeccable!
Yes, he is that well groomed. Especially that time I cut his hair for him. I did a really good job, but he never asked me to do it again :(
Maybe he just waits for Dorset do!
😃
I’m largely okay with either Saturday (results asap!) or Sunday (Fun prediction games!)
But try to make it like at around 8pm CET or later? It’s good afternoon where I’m at.
Perhaps you could get a flight to mine and we could watch the results together at a reasonable time?
No offense, but you’re not you when you get a travesty. You go crazy :P
But we can both wallow in the travesties to come :D
:) When I see a travesty I just have to point it out. I go wild until I have let people know that I have spotted the travesty!
Ok lok
Can we start predicting now because I can’t keep my eyes open? :P
…on a second thought, I’ll wait for tomorrow morning ;)
Ill post the article at midnight ;)
Still 1 person to go! If it were done I would have allowed it
:)
P.S. – I am so tired, I can’t even sleep.
:( :P
Not feeling well at all today, got heat stroke but managed to send votes from Ukraine
Get well soon.
Hope you feel better, and glad to have you back! :)
Hope you get better very soon!
who knows what to believe?!
Sorry Max, I’m just too lazy to do anything at the moment. Those converters made me just dizzy and dehydrated!

In a pub, they play afro-beat and groove.
Get lucky!
Sweden is under the blazing sun. Get well soon. :)
So,you were the last to vote? :)
According to what I was able to read, the big reveal will take place tomorrow or on Sunday. I won’t be able to be around for the whole thing on both days, so I’ll just wait calmly for whatever is decided.
Tunisian votes are in! A great selection of songs added a few to my Spotify playlist. Just now time to wait. I’m hoping one of my favourites ends up winning. The predictions should also be fun!
