ETSC – Every year, the summer is the calm after the storm so it’s the perfect time to resume the highly anticipated the Eurovision Times Song Contest! Each one of you can represent an European country and get to send a song and then vote in a fake Eurovision! Signing up opens soon!
Each summer, a good number of regular readers stay around for different reasons (they don’t get breaks from work or don’t go on holidays…) but there aren’t much news to keep us going. So the last few years we introduced all sorts of games. The Eurovision Times Awards (Fridas) and the Douze Points Trivia Quiz kept us going in 2013 and Fridas have made come-backs the past five years. Four years ago, a lot of you asked for a fake Eurovision where each one of us would send songs and get to vote. And that was it: the Eurovision Times Song Contest, from then on known as ETSC.
We’ve therefore had 8 editions of ETSC, two in 2014: July 2014 and August 2014, both won by France; the third edition was held in July 2015 and won by the United-Kingdom; the fourth edition was held in Augusut 2015 and was won by Austria; the fifth edition was held in July 2016 and was won by Israel; the sixth edition was held in August 2016 and won by Denmark; the 7th edition was held in July 2017 and was won again by France. The last edition to date was ETSC 8, held in August 2017, and it was the first one that went “blind”, meaning people did not know who sent what. It crowned Greece’s Dimitra Selemidou feat. Phoevos Delivoriás with “O monos ke i moni“. For more information, you can discover our new page dedicated to the contest, with its history, all songs participating and the rankings here. You can also find it by clicking on the “Specials” section of the site, in the top menu in the red box, just under the site’s name. “ETSC 9 – July 2018” will be officially held in Thessaloniki and as for venue, it’ll be the Music Hall, nicknamed by locals as “Megaron”! The old rules stay the same. Rules: for this contest, you need to sign up choosing one European country. Once the country will be confirmed as yours for this edition, you’ll be able to send a song officially from the country by email only and it cannot be more than 5 years old (this means 2013 at the oldest). However, there are no language rules but it’s up to you to consider if other members will be nice or not to your song based on the language… Since it’s an online contest, there are no time limits and the song can be as long as you want, and performed by as many people you want. But it needs to be recent and definitely related to the country you’re representing one way or another. For each entry, I’ll do a bit of research to make sure your entry is playable, but you can send me some links with your song to help me make sure. Also, you must make sure the song is available online on a platform so that every one can hear it. A promotion video is only an extra bonus but not mandatory. Last but not least, as seen in the polls the song can not have taken part in Eurovision or a national final but for the artist we get to a different rule. ESC artists are allowed for “small countries” (debatable which, but often I’m open to discussion with you) and NF and FdlC artists are allowed for all. Don’t forget, ETSC is also about discovering new music for us all! In general, everything has to be talked out with me in private. Depending on the number of participants, probably not all countries will be taken again. However, you’ll have a few days to pick your song once a country is being attributed to you, so don’t rush! Since I have postcards to do, I’d rather not have change of songs now! So take the time to be sure!
Once everyone has sent its entry, they’ll be revealed on ET and the voting period will be open. You’ll vote by email to me and to make sure my personal votes are fair (and that I don’t change them to the last minute in case it’s a close race), I will email mine to the first voter, whoever that is. Once everyone voted, I will reveal the votes in a dramatic finish and we’ll see which song will be crown our second summer song! Once you’ve voted, you can not change your votes (especially since some people drop hints of their own votes on the posts)!
There is no signing up article on ET and the official opening time to select your country for July 2018 is officially… Friday 13th at 10 PM CET! You’ll be able to select by emailing me on artemismorgan@hotmail.com only! You can send up to a Top 5 of your favorite countries so that, if you’ve sent your email early enough but your #1 country is already chosen, you get your second pick and so on and so forth. Afterwards, you have three days to decide on your song, until Monday 16th at noon CET. The song reveal will be Monday 16th at 20:00 CET!

It was a 50-50 game. This Croatia (average in knock-out games) makes the big leap in the end, the one I thought they would do in 2008 and 2014 when they played better. England is a new team, reaching the SFs is already a success anyway.

Well luck of the draw too, they didn’t beat anyone outstanding and even had trouble with Tunisia… they’re young and fresh, but they need Southgate, it’s their best coach in years
That draw though had Spain and Germany but collapsed in the end. Beating also Sweden vastly is also an achievement considering which names failed to do so before them. England did what it should have done. Win all those games, and it did. The teams who reached top4 plus Brazil were the best IMO throughout the tournament.
I always think that winning a trophee HAS some chances component anyway, and luck of the draw matters and I don’t mind it at all! Except Portugal had it way easier than France in 2016 and that mattered :p

I wasn’t impressed by Brazil but it is easily among the 5-6 best teams of the tournament.
Brazil was easily the best team of this tournament and only lost for underrestimating Belgium at first and unlucky in a second half they entirely dominated! but that’s how it often goes for Brazil and it was very fun to play Belgium for us :p
I will have to disagree. They even struggled in group stage. Played better in the last 16 against an overrated Mexican team…and lost to Belgium which has been consistently stronger than them. I even expected Belgium (along with France) to reach the SFs even before the tournament started. Their strikers are a lot better.
We disagree on Brazil. They were rather disappointing imo. Luckily they were nowhere near Argentinia and that ridiculously overrated Messi guy at least.
I think Croatia is the second smallest country (after Uruguay) to ever play in a WC final!

In France they say the generation that played the 98 game is still bitter about it, but I have no idea how true it is… However, for the next four days, the actual Croatian players WILL necessarily think of 98 at some point…
They will be constantly REMINDED of 1998, and the coaches’ job is to get all that nonsense out of the players’ heads and make them focus on the here and now.
France has only one thing in mind: 2016 which we shouldn’t have lost but did… in 2016 when asked how it felt to lose a final when you’re favorite, Deschamps said “we’ll try to win the next one now” and here we are…

Not really, more like France will try to learn not to think a championship won before the final is played and less partying after a titanesque win over Germany, which was far superior technically but still lost (the same mistake Belgium made after beating Brazil)
I think that Belgium was very strong in the semi-final. Their problem was the French defence which was the best I have seen in a very long time, if not ever. :)

I have always been a Bleu fan in football, especially in the 80’s (82-never got over that semi against W. Germany, 84, 86).
But on the other hand, I’d like to see a small country winning the trophy. I think it would be good for football.

I was so sure we’d sit back and be completely negative in the second half. and look what happened. It happened against Tunisia and Colombia and we were lucky to beat them. The negativity and complacency in this England team shows why we will never win an international tournament for a very, very long time.
The sad fact is, on English newspapers’ “comments section”, all the brat brits were saying how bad France was for doing it, and then England does it, but way more poorly than Varane-Kante-Umtiti (plus Pogba, Pavard and Hernandez)
Well at least France has the quality to defend their leads! I don’t rate Pavard, and he’ll probably be the the weak link on Sunday as the vast majority of Croatian goals have come from that side of the pitch. They exploited it against England, with Walker being our weakest defender in the air. But Allez les Bleus!
