Eurovision 2018 – This year we resume the “Eurovision Times Awards” to give prizes (the Fridas) for the best in every category! And you get to vote! Today, we resume the polls with the two categories focused on top entries!
2018 will be the sixth year for Eurovision Times to organize a new contest (you can check 2013’s results here, the 2014’s ones here, the 2015’s ones here, the 2016’s ones here and the 2017’s ones here). As with the past few years, our blog hosts now three contests: TEKO which takes place before the contest and the “Eurovision Times Awards” after the contest, with “Premath/Aftermath” which compares our rankings before and after the contest. The principle of the ET Awards is simple, in each categories, the staff of this website will nominate a few entries per categories and open polls for the public to vote in them so we can reveal afterwards all the winners. The winners receive an imaginary trophee, entitled the Fridas in homage to Frida Boccara, the French Eurovision winner in 1969 with “Un jour, un enfant“.
The last award is in the “Result” category and it’s “Best Entry”. Former winners are: “I Feed You My Love” by Margaret Berger of Norway (2013), “Calm After The Storm” by the Common Linnets of the Netherlands (2014), “Rhythm Inside” by Loïc Nottet of Belgium (2015), “1944” by Jamala of Ukraine (2016) and “Amar pelos dois” by Salvador Sobral of Portugal (2017). Here are the results of the recommendations made by the regular users of Eurovision Times in this category:
- 10 Italy
- 9 Israel
- 5 Portugal
- 4 Bulgaria
- 4 Czech Republic
- 3 Cyprus
- 3 Estonia
- 3 France
- 3 Sweden
- 1 Albania
- 1 Belgium
- 1 Hungary
- 1 Lithuania
- 1 Macedonia
- 1 Switzerland
However, it’s down to the staff of Eurovision Times to choose the official nominees and it was difficult since there were so many different arguments for so many entries. After 7 in 2013, 8 in 2014, 6 in 2015 and a record of 8 nominees in 2016 we sink to only 5 and we decided to keep it that way for 2017 and 2018. This year, the 5 nominees were all in the Premath Top 8 and among the 6 countries with the most nominations. They feel like the forum’s most talked and liked entries.
CZECH REPUBLIC
This is its 8th nomination; it finished 6th in Eurovision with 281pts; Premath 6th
FRANCE
This is its 5th nomination; it finished 13th in Eurovision with 173pts; TEKO winner; Premath 4th
ISRAEL
This is its 9th nomination; it finished 1st in Eurovision with 529pts; Premath winner
ITALY
This is its 8th nomination; it finished 5th in Eurovision with 308pts; Premath runner-up
PORTUGAL
This is its 6th nomination; it finished last in Eurovision with 39pts; Premath 8th
Rules: the polls will be open for a week. At the end of the week, an article will announce the winner of the category but not the detailed results. The full results will however be given to you once all polls are closed so that you don’t get influenced (we never know) in your following votes. Every IP gets only one vote, please do not cheat! Of course, it’s pointless to vote only for your own country unless you’re really certain it should win. May the best win!
Czech and Hungary are still my top 2 entries, first and second respectively. So it is evident where my vote goes :)
Simona Halep is the new Roland Garros champion! Woohoo!! :D The 2nd Romanian woman to win a Grand Slam after Virginia Ruzici 40 years ago in 1978!! What an achievement!! <3
Congrats! :) I watched the final and it was obvious she was determined to not let it go this time.
Yep, great comeback! :D
Now,let’s see if Rafa will win his 11th RG trophy.
I think he will, it’s hard to beat him in 5 sets on clay, but it would be cool if Thiem would win.
Well,i really like Thiem for various reasons(lol)but i really want Rafa to win as more grand slams as possible before he retires.
Same
I thought of you while watching this.Shouldn’t his neck be a bit longer?lol
I love him! Franco-Swedish too <3
Congrats! On the same day Herbert & Mahut won their third double grand slam :)
Indeed, they played right after the girls. Congrats! :)
This is a gift I prepared to Morgan. It’s the ranking of all ETSC8 enties with all the info that he needs to update the Specials section. The only bit of info missing is each entry’s HoDs since the voting panels in the Results post are not visible anymore and I couldn’t find the information anywhere else :( So you basically have to copy-paste this and add the names of each HoD after each entry. I could only remember a few of the HoDs behind each entry anyway. It was fun doing this and gave me the chance to remember many of the entries :)

Oops, one mistake. In Sweden the band is Sabaton, not Sbaton. Sorry :)
It also seems the icelandic song has been taken off YouTube. Good thing I had it downloaded…
Thank you for this, Michos. I needed that too (I guess we all do…). I wonder if Morgan as seen my question about the years of the songs we can select for the next editions.
You’re welcome. Too bad I can’t remember all the HoDs. But I remember you had Ireland :)
And I remember you had my 12 points. :)
I remember that too. It made me very happy :)

Dhaibhidh was indeed behind Iceland and Alex USA represented Belarus.
Thanks.
This is something I really don’t want me to remembered about. Let’s VFOS’s instead! Such a refined competion with most civilised partisipants! Wow, do they know their music 😃
Well I’m used to being down there in any contest…
But yiu still have one of the best styles among the HoD’s. I get it big time or not ar all, but it’s always very interesting!
Ιt’s now complete! Thank you :)
Foureira on Spanish radio: “Lo Malo” should have been the Spanish esc entry:
LOL!
‘Rock’ Equinox showing they aren’t all dark and moody, they were fun!
Oh dear Ryan…..Israel 1978 – ABBA!
Netta rockin’ it out to ‘Fuego’
:)
Yes,happy moments. It’s nice to have access to those now and see how things are from the inside.
Totes :)
Also, congrats to the water polo team of Olympiakos on winning the Champions league final:
Indeed please let me know whatever I can do to help the Olympiakos water polo team celebrate! Also if anyone can tell me where to find speedos that are this low cut let me know… I thought I knew all the tricks but front right guy has mastered the art of styling!
lol!Indeed the front right guy seems to be the master of many things.
I think we need to set up international fan club for Olympiakos boys.
We agree once again when it comes to men. :)
I am in NRW btw (near Münster), which is great because the weather is insanely humid in Suttgart.
I hate this competition lol … seriously if anyone can find an order form for those speedos I’m sure we could do a batch order (I actually reset+rched this but ended up with a dead link, maybe one of our Greek friends can help).
Unfortunately further south in NRW still muggy in CGN – doubkly annoying since I will be heading up to my parents for at least a few months since my dad is quite sick at 84. There will be some back and forth obviously due to clients but right now I’m planning for worst-case scenario of staying long so cant just take a suitcase but packing up numerous boxes – not the ideal weather for it obviously. Being a night person I leave most of that for the evening but then of course am restless during the day so end up dealing with boxing up things anyway.
I am sorry to hear that. Stay strong my friend.
Thanks for your support, toggie – I’m grateful that unlike many of my friends I still have both parents alive – and being freelance to have the opportunity to now spend the time with them.
I searched through their e-shop but they don’t seem to sell any speedos. :(
Grrrr surely a missed opportunity! Thanks for looking xx
Somewhat pathetically I have written Olympiakos directly to ask if there is a way to buy these speedos “to support the team.” I’m 99% sure the intern answering my email will tell me that she can’t help but anyone interested I keep you updated ;-).
Lol!I haven’t seen such fan fever in here since Alex USA.I hope they’ll reply.
Love Love Love! Any fan Speedos available?
If you find the order form lemme know together we can prob get a discount ;-).
Of course! 😃
:P :D

Hmm.I have already voted.lol! It was a landlide win by Younas although, there were some other interesting choices there too.
Netta’s Gay Pride performance:
My vote went to Israel, but should have gone to Hungary, who have once again been robbed of a nomination(!!)
Αccording to InfeGreece, Haifa’s mayor Yona Yahav said the city (Israel’s third largest) is ready to submit a bid to host next year’s Eurovision. The proposed venue is the Sammy Offer football stadium with a capacity of 30.000. The municipality intends to pick up the cost of creating a roof over the stadium.
The choice of host city seems to have become a hot-button issue within Israel with the Culture Minister intervening a few days ago to claim that “it’s not worth it” for Israel to spend money on hosting the contest if it doesn’t take place in Jerusalem, only one day after her ministry’s general secretary said to the press that there are other options being considered apart from Jerusalem.
I think that Haifa (and Tel Aviv) would be great choices.
Ι haven’t been to Haifa :)
Me neither :)
Are you planning to? ;)
Νοt really :-P Having been to the other two, I have to say that Tel Aviv is more lively and sexy than Jerusalem but it’s also quite expensive and the quality of life (green spaces, noise levels, quality and maintenance of habitations) is quite inferior.
Haifa is quite nice I thought; I like the fact that it has beaches as well as hills. Special memory for me because
a) the histrionics my ex pulled in the cable car, which actually offers a great view
b) its the centre of the Baha’i faith – sth. rather obscure but I became familiar with it because when I was in college,a friend of mine – a sweet elderly lady taking one class a semester – came up with the idea of starting (as they do in the US) a “Baha’i Club”. So several of us joined because we didn’t want her to have some disaster, starting a club nobody wanted to join. So, having been vice president of my college’s (short-lived) Baha’i Association. I was quite excited to visit the shrine and especially the beautiful garden.
Any news regarding ETSC 9 dates? I’ll probably be away from July 1st – 6th :)
Donnie’s sunday just got better!
The opening scene ! Quite dominant :P
She pretty much emasculates the poor man 😃
Host city updates: Haifa, Eliat, Jerusalem and Tel Aviv to submit formal bids.
Tel Aviv’s mayor changed his mind, saying the original rejection was “to avoid upper power meddling”. But they are open to bid if Jerusalem is not deemed able to host. Bibi also said he is open on any proposal by EBU.
IMO They got a big city with relatively little investment to do. Go make the Golden Boy’s prediction true and show us Tel Aviv :)
Bibi finally drew in his horns…Good!
Tel-Aviv sounds great,Haifa would also be fine 🤗
Οr the EBU is making them have at least the appearance of a competitive tender process but they still hope to host where they intended all along.
Also there is an interesting statement on the part of the EBU today that they wouldn’t mind Jerusalem if it was the result of a legit tender process.
So I hope this will not be simply about managing appearances and window-dressing but a real tender process where all the cities will genuinely fight for the right to host.
Considering all, I believe Israel won’t be a repeat of Ukraine, but I do believe is a two-horse race with Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.
“Statements” has aged well for me,imo:
For me too, however I loved it back then as well. I am never gonna understand how this even failed to reach the final, where it seems according to some legit jury gossip that year it would have won even if it would have only got about seventh in the appvote. :P I hate to nag about it, but the app is still a major shitshow at MF
Yeah,yeah fire.
What song is he covering?
Only one day left to vote in the last two polls, including “Best Entry”, then this weekend, the big Frida reveal!
Also I still need to upload BoNF 2018 results and the ETSC 8 data that was prepared for me by a few friends. Thanks!
(Ill be busy the end of the week until this weekend, then I’m almost entirely free)
Loukas Giorkas who represented Greece in ESC2011 has opened up about demons in his recent past in an interview with Downtown magazine. He admits he had a heavy drinking problem for 6 years after winning X Factor in 2008 (which would include his Eurovision stint): “After my victory at X Factor, that famous person barged into my life and I was trying to hurt him. I was having up to 60 shots in one evening, I reached the point of running down the highway in my boxer shorts hoping someone could help me.” He has also admitted seeking professional help and taking antidepressants.
we have 18 frida winners!
:)
Nice! :) At what hour tomorrow do you plan to reveal the results ?
I hope that it won’t be while ESP vs PRT is on …
late :p
Good :P
On a day like this in 1994…
RIP Great Manos Hadjidakis.
I think i was rather young back then to realise the magnitude of this loss.
He is missed even more nowadays…
Full Ukrainian version of “Syla” from Vidbir 2018 released:
I don’t understand why she decided to ruin such a song with English in Vidbir.
I suppose she falsely tries to eurovisionise her folk entries.Plus, the Ukrainian lyrics are much better than the English ones talking about the natural elements and how they influence our lives through the course of human history:
In every person
A life-giving tree grows
The earth is rooted,
Green branch to the sky
Oh, oh!
Our mother is a wise field!
Oh oh!
And the father is an ancient FORCE!
I agree!
The official Danish World Cup anthem. Awfully bad if you ask me. The title btw. translates into “the whole of Denmark stand up”.
Oh my football songs …
Just a fantastic video for a a great song of Gata Band from Depi Evratesil 2018!
Hurry up!VFoS has kicked off in Aarhus.
I’ll send a message to Dino 😀
A great article on InfeGreece about ERT’s total indifference towads ESC compared to the World Cup where they have spent €10,5 million (!) this year for the rights to cover of an event where Greece doesn’t even participate and usually pulls lower ratings than the contest. It’s about half the amount of money Portugal needed to host the whole contest…
