London Eurovision Party Review

London Eurovision Party – This week’s London Eurovision Party was another roaring success in the middle of Soho at the Cafe de Paris on Thursday night. A day full of press and sound checks was followed with a live show presenting dozens of Eurovision stars past and present.

24 acts had been announced in advance of the show, including 18 of this year’s performers, and Finland’s Saara Aalto was announced as the surprise additional act only hours before it was due to start.

France’s Madame Monsieur surprised the crowd with a new part English version of their entry this year ‘Mercy‘. Thanks to London Eurovision Party main sponsors ESCXTRA for the video.

ESCXTRA also streamed live from the day for several hours and you can catch up with that online here. They chatted to several acts including The Czech Republic and Iceland.

The preview parties are always good to see friendships and collaborations start and ZiBBZ of Switzerland and Equinox of Bulgaria were soon making friends…

Several acts performed cover versions as well as their Eurovision song in the evening such as Bulgaria’s Equinox who sang ‘Who You Are‘ by Jessie J, and Finland’s Saara Aalto covering Kylie Minogue’s ‘Your Disco Needs You‘.

Lucie Jones (UK 2017) returned to sing ‘Euphoria‘ and ‘Shady Lady‘ plus the 7th Heaven Remix of ‘Never give upon you‘.

The UK’s entry this year, SuRie, as well as performing this year’s entry ‘Storm‘ as the host country’s headline act, also presented ‘Rhythm Inside‘ (Belgium 2015) which she sang backing vocals on in Vienna.

Ben Morris, freelance artists, as is now tradition, presented each of the performers with their very own Europops character…

Host Nicki French (UK, 2000) kicked off the aftershow party with ‘Don’t Play That Song Again‘ and people danced into the early hours.
