FridaEurovision Times Awards 2017 – Every year, the summer is the calm after the storm so it’s the perfect time to resume the “Eurovision Times Awards” to give prizes to the best in every category! Best National Final

TheET Awards five entries nominated were:

  • Hungary‘s A Dal
  • Iceland‘s Songvakeppnin
  • Italy‘s San Remo
  • Latvia‘s Supernova
  • Portugal‘s Festival da Cação

You can check out more abut San Remo on the contest’s Wikipedia page. The Italian contest was created long ago, before the Eurovision Song Contest, of which it actually was an inspiration. When Italy withdrew from our beloved contest, San Remo kept going strong. When they returned in 2011, they have always changed their ways of dealing between SR and the ESC. In 2011 they sent the winner of the “newcomer” category. In 2012 or 2014 they picked a singer from SR but with a different song for Eurovision. This year, it finally stated that “the winner would be offered to go to the contest” which therefore led it to this nomination. It gave the contest both the OGAE and the TEKO winner before the contest, where Italy finnished 6th. This is Italy’s second Frida this year! Congratulations!

You can click here to look at the full recommendations and nominations from last week’s article! There were 44 recommendations for 11 countries in the first round and 82 votes were cast in an open poll, in exactly one week, among the 5 nominees. The complete detailed results will be announced once all polls are closed so in another week!

Now let’s watch the winning entry once more from its national final performance:

  1. Expected. The difference between the NF performance and the ESC performance hurt so much.

  2. The classic one won. :)

  3. I didn’t watch it, but I will check it out if I get the time. Since there seems to be quite a lot of shows, I will probably stick to the final.

  4. Again my vote wins it. San Remo was undoubtly the winner of the 2017 season imo. Good songs, representative of the current Italian music scene, a great pool of local stars (compared to let’s just say MF’s recycled “b choices”) and of course live orchestra!

  5. Yeah for SR!It was so good.Glad i watched it live.

  6. A nice acoustic version of Occidentali’s Karma:

  7. A special shout-out to A Dal.I really liked many songs this year and their selections have become one of the highlights of the season for me.

  8. Excellent! Fingers crossed for the next year :)
