  1. Imo the backdrop is the best part of Bulgaria 2017, and with the former Fridas it got, I’m not surprised it won. HOWEVER, this was so far the closest award as THREE countries are within THREE points (like esc 2003)!

  2. I don’t want to sound dull but polls with Bulgaria seem to attract 30-40 voters more compared to the rest :P

  3. btw, France, Italy and Netherlands are the only countries who won a Frida 4 out of 5 editions (France and Italy, all but 2014; Netherlands all but 2015); NL did come close from a full house getting second in 2015 for best spokesperson but was beat by the UK there.

  4. This Frida smelled disaster for me from the very beginning.

  5. I might sound very anti Bulgaria at times, the vocals he deserved, the styling was questionable, but this was not really that amazing tbh. Bulgaria had the whole package and the package was good dont get me wrong, but this was too sterile for my taste.
Whatever you might say about the French backdrop, that it was too dizzy or that you have a problem with only the eifeltower in it, does not take away that it was very well done and worked with both Alma, her choregraphy and the camerawork perfectly.
So I say meh to this award :P

    • Agree 100%.

    • Imo it was the best part, and the only award I did expect them to win!

    • Bulgaria 17 is the rightful heir of Australia 16. Very well done, but completely uninteresting.

      • Didn’t they do a similar thing with hands and special effects?

      • I agree but I find both Dami and Kristian likable. I know I’m in a minority on this, but I do think the way fans reacted to both is harsh on them. They’re not ARTISTS and their delegations want the WIN, so we have to hate them, right? Wrong!

        • Funnily enough, the ESC is a competition, so obviously there are delegations who want to win…

        • ‘Jantelov’, as we call it in Denmark?

        • However I like Kristian as an artist doh and I think he is gonna end up in my top 5 post ranking and thats actually an improvement from my pre ranking. Dami im and Kristian both deserved the vocal praise, however I dont remember Dami winning anything else :P
This season however I think that Portugal is even more of an ET darling then Ukraine ever was last year and that can effect people like me to lash out. I’m not saying it’s right, just an observation :P
Btw I also felt kinda alone last year as I was the only one having Dami Im as my favorite pre and after contest.

    • Even though for best backdrop I would have Belgium and Hungary by far. But among those here, definitely France. It’s a pity Belgium isn’t here because I don’t think they have won anything this far and this was rightfully theirs. The backdrop, the lights, everything was perfect.

  6. I voted for Balerus but for once I won’t get into a rant because the backdrop is not about Kristian. LOL
It’s generic and inoffensive and if that is what the majority likes, good for them. :)

  7. Bulgaria’s backdrop was my favourite too, glad they won! :)

  8. Cold and clinical as the song, but expected.

  9. To put things in a perspective, Bulgaria have had miserable results in this competition until very recently (except for the 5th place in 2007). Now they are finally tasting success, and last year they earned a well deserved 4th place with a very strong composition. Now they are doing even better, and even though I am not fond of the song myself for several reasons (I’m glad it didn’t win – for musical reasons), I have no bad feelings about Kristian doing well in the Fridas.

  10. Don’t even remember if I voted at all in this category. The five backdrops didn’t really seem particularly interesting to me except for the French one which got me dizzy. Watching the Bulgarian backdrop once again, I don’t think there is anything really outstanding about it. His moves grab more of my attention than the backdrop tbh.

  11. Offtopic: I have time tonight for it, so I’ll finally do the BoNF scoreboard and results if anyone’s itnerested!

  12. I voted for Portugal. I liked the Bulgarian backdrop, it could have been better but it was good. I hate those animations but that doesn’t count as backdrop ;)
