ET Awards 2017: Best Entry!

Eurovision 2017 – This year we resume the “Eurovision Times Awards” to give prizes (the Fridas) for the best in every category! And you get to vote! Today, we resume the polls with the two categories focused on top entries!

2017 will be the fifth year for Eurovision Times to organize a new contest (you can check 2013’s results here, the 2014’s ones here, the 2015’s ones here and the 2016’s ones here). As with the past few years, our blog hosts now two contests: TEKO which takes place before the contest and the “Eurovision Times Awards” after the contest. The principle of the ET Awards is simple, in each categories, the staff of this website will nominate a few entries per categories and open polls for the public to vote in them so we can reveal afterwards all the winners. The winners recieve an imaginary trophee, entitled the Fridas in hommage to Frida Boccara, the French Eurovision winner in 1969 with “Un jour, un enfant“.

The last award is in the “Result” category and it’s “Best Entry”. Here are the results of the recommendations made by the regular users of Eurovision Times in this category:

  • 11 Portugal
  • 6 Belgium
  • 5 Italy
  • 4 Azerbaijan
  • 4 Bulgaria
  • 3 Finland
  • 3 Hungary
  • 1 Denmark
  • 1 Lithuania
  • 1 Sweden

However, it’s down to the staff of Eurovision Times to choose the official nominees and it was difficult since there were so many different arguments for so many entries. After 7 in 2013, 8 in 2014, 6 in 2015 and a record of 8 nominees in 2016 we sink to only 5. The 5 nominated entries came Top 5 as well in our pre-contest ET rankings. Now, it’s up to you to vote in our poll below! You need to click on the country’s name to be redirected to the video of the song with the live Eurovision performance. The nominees in alphabetical order are:

This is its 9th nomination; it finished 14th in Eurovision with 120pts

This is its 7th nomination; it finished 4th in Eurovision with 363pts; TEKO runner-up

This is its 7th nomination; it finished 2nd in Eurovision with 615pts

This is its 7th nomination; it finished 6th in Eurovision with 334pts, TEKO winner

This is its 8th nomination; it finished 1st in Eurovision with 758pts

Rules: the polls will be open for a week. At the end of the week, an article will announce the winner of the category but not the detailed results. The full results will however be given to you once all polls are closed so that you don’t get influenced (we never know) in your following votes. Every IP gets only one vote, please do not cheat! Of course, it’s pointless to vote only for your own country unless you’re really certain it should win. May the best win!

  1. Only 5 nominees this year, song that came 6th, Hungary, had 5 nominations overall. But these 5 are really above all competition (our Top 5 in the precontest rankings).

  2. Bulgaria Belgium and Azerbaijan are in my top 4 and the other 2 my bottom 2. I would like to see Sweden nominated here personally.

My vote here goes to Bulgaria because I already gave a vote to Belgium and I would like to split them between the best 2 entries.

Italy and Portugal will be the top 2 in the final result…

  3. Usually the ET favorite always gets a top 5 placing, so I dont really see the point anymore in having ”the top 5 entry” award. I guess it can happen sometime in the future that our favorite fails to get a top 5 placing, but I rather doubt it tbh :P
    Hopefully I am proven wrong!
My imaginate vote here goes to Finland, but gets slingshoted towards Portugal instead! :O

  4. I think that Hungary deserved a nomination here.

  5. Voted for Portugal.

  6. Voted for Portugal here.

  7. 4 of them are in my top10.
    I voted for Portugal.

  8. Considering that only two songs of this batch have become iconic at this moment, I feel like going with the one which achieved this status first, nevertheless, Salvador I am sure will only grow the more strong

But I got to go with Italy. Instantly iconic, odd-defying and first ever ESC song that surpassed 100 million views. You can’t deny that.

  9. Portugal.

  10. I’ve got to give my vote to my first winner to win the actual contest since 1963 and unexpected entrant into my “I will love this song forever” group, Portugal. ˆ-ˆ
