Eurovision 2017 Rehearsals: Day 4

Eurovision 2017 – With two weeks to go to the contest, daily rehearsals start tomorrow and of course the Eurovision Times will do its best to cover them; here’s for the first rehearsals to the first half of semifinal 1: pics and vids will be officially released and we get to discuss, debate, analyze, predict…

So this is how it’ll work for the next 10 days or so: we will resume the system from the last two years. There is an article for the day’s rehearsals published in the morning (or the night before) with the calendar (this year, the new style and format of the official site don’t seem to help look for rehearsals). You can comment all day on it, based on all the info you can gather around and as soon as I can, I’ll get working on a recap article with links to pictures, videos, etc. However, I do work (even if both 1st of May and 8th of May are days off in France) so I’ll do that at the latest in the evening, sooner if possible, depending. Usually, the girls are down there and as you know, this year ET did not get a pass, so they’ll be following from here and will help publishing any news article.

So we’re all counting on you guys to post in the comment section all the links you find and discuss all material out there. Hope it works out great for everyone, and already a big cheers to all the sites who will post their own made materials.

Here’s tomorrow’s schedule: Semifinal 2 – Half 2 – First rehearsal

  •  09:00-09:30 San Marino First rehearsal
  •  09:40-10:10 Croatia First rehearsal
  •  10:20-10:50 Norway First rehearsal
  •  11:00-11:30 Switzerland First rehearsal
  •  11:10-11:30 San Marino Press Meet & Gree
  •  11:50-12:10 Croatia Press Meet & Greet
  •  12:30-12:50 Norway Press Meet & Gree
  •  12:40-13:10 Belarus First rehearsal
  •  13:10-13:30 Switzerland Press Meet & Gree
  •  13:20-13:50 Bulgaria First rehearsal
  •  14:00-14:30 Lithuania First rehearsal
  •  14:50-15:10 Belarus Press Meet & Gree
  •  15:00-15:30 Estonia First rehearsal
  •  15:30-15:50 Bulgaria Press Meet & Greet
  •  15:40-16:10 Israel First rehearsal
  •  16:20-16:40 Lithuania Press Meet & Greet
  •  17:10-17:30 Estonia Press Meet & Greet
  •  17:55-18:15 Israel Press Meet & Greet

There will therefore be 9 countries getting their first taste of the stage and first impression from it. The first rehearsal is 30 minutes long.

This is how it works. As usual, in first go, countries rarely reveal everything from their staging, definitely not the clothes. But the fans get an idea of what direction the performance is heading towards. This is mostly a rehearsal for delegations: in-ear monitoring, checking the dressing room, etc. Then the delegations check the recordings and adjust if necessarily. After this, they work on the make-up, and then the Press Meet & Greet takes place.

Usually, the official site publishes photo sets from rehearsals and a short clip (around 90 seconds) about the artist’s impressions around 40 minutes later. Last year it was not possible for any fan sites to record anything else, so you’ll have to just read what everyone there thought about it without seeing more with your own eyes (and of course hear with your own ears).

  1. Such a sensory overload this day of rehearsals has been. And I am sooooo sick and tired of those gigantic projections of the artists. Seriously, are they trying to embarass them all? Shouldn’t someone warn them that other delegations are also using this? I hope some of them will reconsider before the second rehearsal.

    • Gigantic vanity head will be new add on to ESC bingos.

This will make the whole show a laughing stock. It’s very bad tv most of all. Yes, the warnings should have been sent even though vanity screens might be considered most stylish things ever in Kiev.

  2. Apparently Kristian will start studying at the musical college of Berkeley starting next year :)

  3. By the way Imri looks like a greek GOD…

  4. This interview is rated R, do not watch it if gay porn is not among your interests :

  5. Ok, Jacques using a prominent rainbow in his staging must be the very peak of Eurovision cynicism.

And Laura gets the best-dressed award hands down. A true Signora di Verona 😊

    • I have not watched the rehearsals yet, just some pictures; Laura looks stunning in that dress. Miruna went for a really off-putting piece that does not fit the mood of the song, it’s weird! The Belarusian lady was the best dressed lady of today’s rehearsals, imo.

      • Switzerland is going for greek mythology made by Disney. If this semi wasn’t so chaotically colourful they would have more chances perhaps.

        • Just by going through some pictures, I suspect that all those colours and ott concepts may backfire and some voters may lean towards more simple presentations: Portugal and Bulgaria may benefit from this (the Bulgarian photos seem elegant).

          • Too elegant and too aloof. In fact because everything else in the semi is so “colourful”, its coldness and aloofness is accentuated even more.

          • It is very elegant especially amid this everything but beautiful mess.
And true. Simple things stand out. I’ll add Finland to that list,

            • Finland, indeed. Viewers will need those oasis of tranquility to prevent them from overdosing on colours and vaguely silly, obvious exaggerations.

            • It will be a visual nightmare, worst ever. We reach mew heights in ESC tackiness and that’s quite a height we are talking about. it’s totally out of hands.

      • As for Belarus, I understand this is a boat, but did they really need those oversize propellers to explain it to the audience? Also the effects behind it look more like flying than sailing. But it’s good they don’t have much space for her to get too agitated.

        • I’ll check the videos after resting for a while, but I get what you say about her; if she really gets going, she will probably leave the arena and only stop in Minsk!

      • Miruna reached Rykka’s SF level in off putness already in rehearsals. Shame, such a beautiful woman with ample assets need only simplicity to stand out.

  6. Israel : Another one with himself in the background. It’s like Lisa Ajax has put a curse on ESC that since she lost in MF her vanity legacy would be here or something. To be honest this is one of the cases it works as Imri’s image is shattered as he sings “breaking me to pieces” – too literal maybe but at least there is a though behind it. Vocally sounded ok. The hand waving thing looks pretty silly though imo. Other than that this is a… visually very appealing act overall and Imri does his best to showcase more than just his vocal assets. Big time.

  7. Belarus was easily my favorite. I was very impressed with Lithuania as well. Bulgaria, Switzerland, and Norway were just okay and nothing too outside of the box. Estonia, Croatia, and San Marino were pretty bad imo, with Croatia actually making me roll my eyes so hard.

  8. Press Poll
    Bulgaria 97
    Croatia 50
    Belarus 43
    Estonia 43
    Norway 30
    San Marino 27
    Israel 16
    Switzerland 6
    Lithuania 3

    • Lihuania was better than Switzerland imo. San Marino was pointless and bad. Croatia was awful: 90 really?! what the hell are these fans?!

    • At least Kristian did not get the Blanche treatment..Croatia ? LOL ! And Estonia really that high after today ? for god’s sake…polarized and biased as every other day.

      • Kristian can not get Blanche treatment…he owns the stage

        • Well Blanche does the same but in her own way ;) Anyway I am sure she will be massively bullied tomorrow as well so I hope its ready. Tuesday cannot come fast enough at this point.

          • She will be better tomorrow…No more Zero!

            • Nah they’ll give her a zero..I was watching her interview with wiwi. She was just the sweetest and really tried with her english to do her best to express herself – and got it right mostly – comments were attacking her for not speaking english fluently.

People are never happy. I don’t know what is it that she triggers in people and they treat her like that tbh. Haven’t seen it before in esc happening.

She also said subtle changes are coming in camera work and movement !

            • I watched a couple of interviews with her in her native language and she seems much more animated and confident.

            • French speakers are not the best in terms of lingual diversity to be honest. I am surprised she can hide any accent so well when singing.

            • we’re usually awful (except me of course lol)

            • Oh I can always spot my french colleagues here in sweden from the first two words they will say – sometimes even before that :P

            • 8:15

              Just for you

            • she is introverted and shy…this may seen as insecurity…and when people see your sore points, they are merciless…She is too naive to hide her emotions

            • Oh I know, I am a very insecure person myself so I relate to her a lot. It’s easy to step over an insecure person for sure – it hits them harder when they face attacks. Well she is 17 – she should be naive in a good way imo. Although I feel this esc experience will give her a good taste of how people can be.

            • Well you don’t seem insecure from here😜

            • I am very good at written speech because I have the luxury to think and change what I want to say and construct it properly. If you meet me in person I am blabbering nervously and sometimes incoherently all the time :P
If you watch Martina Barta’s interviews I am basically this in a less confident version :P

            • That’s cute :)

            • Nah it’s not – ask my latest date :P

        • Indeed, how could he? He is a proper pop star in making, a natural born performer and singer 😃

          • And so is Blanche – it takes some basic musical perspective I guess to understand different artistic idiosyncrasies though. Blanche is not a performer for everyone of course. She does not like kitchen sink approaches in her musical style or behaviour – something of course not everyone can grasp. Very understandable.

I would like to thank you though – this kind of behaviour actually proves my point perfectly :) And when she slays that stage on Tuesday it will be even more satisfactory given the bullying she receives :)

            • And just to clarify I dont claim Kristian likes kitchen sink approaches, he does not need them either. He is also amazing but with a different artistic idiosyncrasy. More extroverted and mainstream but also very talented.

            • She isn’t. She is a talent show leftover, totally out of her depth. And it shows.

            • Oh like Sobral then – another “talent show leftover” to use your disparaging language ?

Can I ask you something very honestly : Do you enjoy writing this stuff ? Would you go in her face of a 17 year old singer and tell he all that ?

And before you get there yes I would say exactly what I think to both Gabbani and Sobral in their face.

            • I have nothing against her, but I could swap few words with her producers and broadcaster about exploiting young girl. The song is still #7 on my list. I don’t even care that it’s recycled.
Your straightforwardness is cute, but it tends to get you a bit into trouble, doesn’t it?

            • Nobody is not exploiting anyone of course but don’t let me ruin your imaginative scenario there.
Oh I don’t care either about plagiarisms – the fact that e.g. Portugal is near the bottom for me has nothing to do with the fact it plagiarized “Bella Notte” by George Givot (the lady and the tramp soundtrack) – such accusations are silly in this age and time with thousands of songs produced every day. There are only so many chords.

            • It has never been about chord progression. I assume you are not familiar with Robin Thicke and Pharell Williams vs. Marvin Gaye Estate. Check it out. That’s how plagiarism is defined now. It’s a game changing court case.

            • I am familiar, I am a close follower especially of the US judicial proceedings. And I think Gaye’s family was really petty overall in this matter.
If I cared and if this decision had any jurisdictional value in Europe though I’d say the portuguese entry may be in more trouble than the belgian one.

Thank god it is irrelevant to the european system and this discussion is without merit :)

            • Oh btw the case is still lost in a labyrinth of lengthy appeals as far as I remember as of today.

            • They have payed and given the credits. Music industry wasn’t too happy about ruling. Danger Zone is safe until it ends up in top 10. There isn’t enough sales or airplay at the moment, nothing to fight for.

            • btw, Tomer is in a lot of pictures, he’s the skinny dancer in white: https://eurovision.tv/gallery/Imri-from-israel-feels-alive-on-stage

      • What made you think BGR would have the Blanche treatment?
It’s simple as that : Blanche same as SRB didn’t feel like top 3 for anyone voting in the press. It’s not the first time a big fave fails (EST last year?)

        • Just a hinch and some ideas I have formulated but won’t share since I can’t prove them.

I’ll just say I don’t think Blanche will fail in any way – Estonia last year was not that big of a favourite on odds at least.

After 36 rehearsal videos and pics Belgium was imo among the highlights. And I’ll leave it there.

        • Estonia last year was still only 11th in the press poll

    • I was about to post it :p

      AUT 79
      ROM 72
      NED 54
      HUN 39
      DEN 29
      FYRoM 18
      IRL 14
      MLT 10
      SRB 0

    • Croatia and Norway should swap places and then it would make more sense to me.

    • Tbh the press poll had Georgias ”waterfall” at number one and it barely made it, so yeah I dont think they should be trusted that much :P

  9. Hmm, after that rehearsal I can see jury voting Croatia!

  10. Fusedmarc – “Rain of Revolution” <3 That's it! My new number one of 2017!!!!! Fusedmarc GO to final! That rehearsal is WONDERFUL! An reactions are much better now! YAY! Fusedmarc go for gold!

  11. I’m really sorry, but I want to puke over Greek rehearsal, the moment when she spreads her arms and rising on the stage..GOSH I feel so sick.. :/

  12. Today’s rehearsals:
Good as expected: Norway, Belarus, Bulgaria
Better than expected: Lithuania (I don’t actually believe I’m saying this!!!)
    Worse than expected: Switzerland, Israel
Horrors as expected: Croatia, San Marino
Can’t judge from those 40 secs: Estonia (nice buttocks, Koit :P )

  13. Who thinks Finland will do Netherlands 2014?

    • Me! :)

    • It will qualify but then nothing near top5 but a top10 result is likely. Very much I would say. Well done for your good result in FdlC.

    • I believed in Finland 2017 from the whole beginning, i’m 100 % sure that they will get their best placing since 2006, but other than that idk, it’s gonna get almost full marks from all the nordic countries thats for sure, but Idk how it will be precieved in rest of europe doh :P

      • I can see our jury voting it…

        • Yeah i’m not saying that only the nordics will vote for it, i’m saying that we here in the north will give it high points. Everyone I have shared it with here in sweden thinks it’s a beautiful song, even people who dont even listen to songs like that. But yeah we will see. I hope it will do a top 5 in the end as I see the televoters voting for this as well. Maybe it will do a Latvia 2015 who knows.

  14. Bulgaria 2017 is fantastic calculation of winning factors 2009+2011 Really wonder how it will fate. Bookies seem not to believe in Bulgaria but I think they hurry up. It is well crafted song but currently is flopping in my top 20.
