Eurovision 2017 Rehearsals: Day 2

Eurovision 2017 – With two weeks to go to the contest, daily rehearsals start tomorrow and of course the Eurovision Times will do its best to cover them; here’s for the first rehearsals to the first half of semifinal 1: pics and vids will be officially released and we get to discuss, debate, analyze, predict…

So this is how it’ll work for the next 10 days or so: we will resume the system from the last two years. There is an article for the day’s rehearsals published in the morning (or the night before) with the calendar (this year, the new style and format of the official site don’t seem to help look for rehearsals). You can comment all day on it, based on all the info you can gather around and as soon as I can, I’ll get working on a recap article with links to pictures, videos, etc. However, I do work (even if both 1st of May and 8th of May are days off in France) so I’ll do that at the latest in the evening, sooner if possible, depending. Usually, the girls are down there and as you know, this year ET did not get a pass, so they’ll be following from here and will help publishing any news article.

So we’re all counting on you guys to post in the comment section all the links you find and discuss all material out there. Hope it works out great for everyone, and already a big cheers to all the sites who will post their own made materials.

Here’s tomorrow’s schedule: Semifinal 1 – Half 2 – First rehearsal

  •  09:00-09:30 Greece First rehearsal
  •  09:40-10:10 Poland First rehearsal
  •  10:20-10:50 Moldova First rehearsal
  •  11:00-11:30 Iceland First rehearsal
  •  11:10-11:30 Greece Press Meet & Greet
  •  11:50-12:10 Poland Press Meet & Greet
  •  12:30-12:50 Moldova Press Meet & Greet
  •  12:40-13:10 Czech Republic First rehearsal
  •  13:10-13:30 Iceland Press Meet & Greet
  •  13:20-13:50 Cyprus First rehearsal
  •  14:00-14:30 Armenia First rehearsal
  •  14:50-15:10 Czech Republic Press Meet & Greet
  •  15:00-15:30 Slovenia First rehearsal
  •  15:30-15:50 Cyprus Press Meet & Greet
  •  15:40-16:10 Latvia First rehearsal
  • 16:20-16:40 Armenia Press Meet & Greet
  • 17:10-17:30 Slovenia Press Meet & Greet
  • 17:55-18:15 Latvia Press Meet & Greet

There will therefore be 9 countries getting their first taste of the stage and first impression from it. The first rehearsal is 30 minutes long.

This is how it works. As usual, in first go, countries rarely reveal everything from their staging, definitely not the clothes. But the fans get an idea of what direction the performance is heading towards. This is mostly a rehearsal for delegations: in-ear monitoring, checking the dressing room, etc. Then the delegations check the recordings and adjust if necessarily. After this, they work on the make-up, and then the Press Meet & Greet takes place.

Usually, the official site publishes photo sets from rehearsals and a short clip (around 90 seconds) about the artist’s impressions around 40 minutes later. Last year it was not possible for any fan sites to record anything else, so you’ll have to just read what everyone there thought about it without seeing more with your own eyes (and of course hear with your own ears).

  1. ESCtoday voting:

    ARM 100!!!
    MDA 69!!
    CYP 40
    LAT 30
GRE 22 – points-wise tbh, I was expecting smth more
    POL 20
    SLO 17
    ISL 11:(
    CZR 6

    • Will it be a fight between POL and GRC for the 10th ticket? :P

    • Is this the actual press voting like every year?It seems too polarizing not like the previous years so it won’t be that accurate, imo.A song getting 100 pts and another one only 6 or 0 like they gave Belgium last night reeks of amateurism.

      • It does show some trends though. Like OGAE votes.
Also maybe the sample this year is smaller for the moment. I mean 35 people leaving Belgium out of their top 3 yesterday doesn’t sound THAT weird, does it?

      • I said it last night. This is not a normal esc year. Something feels charged and weird in the esc atmosphere in Kyiv. And its not the whole russian debacle imo that caused it.

      • Yes. I do disagree with the amount/ranking some countries got but it provides some impression. It is an accurate prediction for the vast majority of the countries that will go through. The ranking will not be exactly the same of course.

    • Songwise,I only like Armenia and Iceland in this group…The rest are pretty weak imo
I am sorry to see Svala only got 11…what may have gone wrong?🤔

  2. Latvia : I dare say it was my favourite in a rather underwhelming day. Solid and loyal to the psychedelic concept we saw in Supernova it transfers this nice gig feeling the band has. Agnese’s vocals are not the best but they are not needed with this song either imo. No cons on this one.

  3. Overall I feel rather underwhelmed today. Latvia was solid and Moldova delivered well as well but everyone else had issues imo.
My two favourites, CZE and ISL, made disastrous wardrobe choices and the stage feels empty at both songs.
Greece is very solid, Demy has star quality and the staging is solid but the dancers feel very contrived.
Armenia also conveyed the feeling of the clip somewhat but the whole thing feels dowmgraded and the dancing frantic.
Poland needs more drama, darkness on stage and atmosphere for sure.
Slovenia was solid, well staged well performed but not enough to make it.

And of course Cyprus aka Loic Nottet wanna be Hovig. Too frustrated about this tbh.

    • Armenia’s victory in the press poll (reminiscent of the frenzy last year over Iveta) is another indication this year’s esc press is not worth taking under much consideration.

      • When you look at the songs in this group,I think it is not surprising Armenia is in the top….It is energetic, well performed but the rest is….zzzzzzzz

        • I agree it is an underwhelming second half of the semi but I disagree about Armenia. It feels hollow and not quite interesting to me after the first 25 sec.

          • Don’t forget guys in the press do not represent the taste of majority…

            • At this point I wonder if it represents anything at all tbh. I think not following blogs and vlogs is something I will keep doing for the rest of the week.

  4. Only thing i really like about Armenia 2017 is the voice of Artsvik and natural face of her, she is the most beautiful Armenian singer in esc imho because she does not have any botox, lip, nose, boob, job or extreme makeup unlike previous singers also Sirusho was natural in terms of beauty but i prefer Artsvik because of the classy and fragile face structure. I just hope they will not have something like Turkey 2005 as stage presentation (for me the worst show and song of Turkey in 2000s). It is 2017 and i wanna see something innovative on the stage. Good luck to her.

  5. Here’s is the press voting from the 2014 first semifinal:

  6. Today’s press winner in full

  7. And this is the first half of the Greek rehearsal:

    • and here is the last minute…..

Definitely needs to be sorted vocally. I’m not certain this is qualifying tbh.
