Without further ado, the winner is:

“Occidentali’s Karma” was written by Luca Chiaravalli, Fabio Ilacqua, and Francesco Gabbani himself! After winning San Remo 2017 on 15 February, Gabbani accepted RAI’s offer to become the Italian entrant in Kyiv! The percentages of the results are listed below.

1st place: Italy – 118 votes (81%)

2nd place: Czech Republic – 20 votes (14%)

  1. It’s worth noting that we have our first duel set up already, and it’s a doozy of a challenge! Italy will meet Finland to kick off the next round of competition.

  2. Surprise surprise …

  3. I will vote Finland, cuz they messed up the Italian song in their new version

  4. That was to be expected.
The Czech entry is growing on me though.

  5. Even if Italy got drawn in a very weak heat overall I believe Italy is gonna win this TEKO.

Off topic: Now this may be a little controversial, but I dont really care. Have you all heard about the fucking gay concentration camps that has opened in Chechnya, Russia? Everything that happens in Russia rn is all too familiar of what happened before WW 2. Now I dont really think that a WW 3 will happen, but as a gay man this really devastates me to even here a news about gay concentration camps. I hope that at least EBU takes actions and bans Russia in at least the next edition, cause this is a way worse act then banning an artist from competing.

    • You can btw read about it everywhere, spread the news!

    • It even made it into ARD’s main news programme … There are so many hateful people out there atm.

    • It sounds horrible. It should lead to pressure from the international society.

      • I mean I hope so, I usually try to avoid bringing up any political matter on this site, but this is human rights we’re talking about here.

      • According to a BBC article – which I can;t post – LGBT organisations in St Petersburg have called on the federal GOV to intervene. As of now the have not taken any action.

    • The creation of the concentration camps is the decision of the local GOV of Chechnya. Russia (in fact the federal GOV) isn’t directly involved in this. What it can do though is to intervene but I doubt they will do it anyway.

      • Well it’s still apart of Russia, so this is clearly a russian involement. Cause if they dont stop it they are automatically supporting it.

I am tired and sick of hearing these disgusting things Russia is doing and getting away with it, cause its not ”clear” enaugh. Like Crimera, like the Anti-gay laws, like the ”gay medicin” research and now this gay concentration camp, a news we havn’t even heard of in a wide scale since the hitler times.

    • Ugh the more I say I won’t comment, such subjects come up and I have to.

The situation is chilling and anybody expecting any bold action from a federal government who would love to do the same should not really.

There are few things that can be done but anyone interested it is worth a try.

      1. The usual but most ineffective probablt thing to do is sign the petition asking the russian prosecutor general to start an investigation on the matter :

      2. Tweet the prosecutor general at @Genproc and the russian investigatory commitee at @sledcom_rf

      3. E-mail the russian embassy in your country asking for an investigation to be initiated . You can find the relevant information here :

      4. E-mail the russian LGBT network asking if any help that a person from abroad can offer is needed : kavkaz@lgbtnet.org.

      5. Put pressure on dating aps such as Grindr and Hornet to set up automatic alerts to russian users notifying them about the attacks and giving them safety tips. In many of the cases recorded in Chechnya the victims were lured into fake dates through those apps and arrested. There is a relevant petition :

And in general reach out to people, organizations in Russia and anyone who may tell you how you can help. Don’t let the issue die please.

    • And of course ban Russia from any international event, organization, anything that keeps them in contact with the civilized world unless some kind of action is taken.
These atrocities are taking place on European grounds for the first time since the 1930s. We cannot tolerate them in any form and EBU from its part must take a stance here.

    • That is appaling. We are heading towards a major disaster. :( Human kind can be very despicable.

    • I did read about it a few days ago.Sickening:

  6. Italy’s landslide victory makes perfect sense, given the lack of any competition in this group.
I feel sorry for Finland next though :(

  7. Not a surprising result, but as you probably know, I am not happy about it :-(

  8. Oh, there were 8 votes for Slovenia.
And it wasn’t even me! :-)

  9. “Oof… I predict Italy will win with 80% or more”

    I’m a witch! O.O
