Tonight: Fourth Super Saturday of 2017

Eurovision 2017Just like last year, we will witness Super Saturdays with many shows happening all at once. Instead of opening all threads, hard to follow for everyone, we decided to have just one thread for all shows to follow live so we can all discuss them together. Tonight: 6 shows including 3 finals!

ukraine logoUkraine – Tonight, the host country will be broadcasting the big National Final, after three weeks after semi-finals where 24 acts overall competed. Six acts will be performing tonight, competing for the ticket to represent the home country of the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest.

The finalists are:

  • Salto NazadO mamo
  • TayannaI love you
  • RozhdenSaturn
  • IllariaThank you for my way
  • O.TorvaldTime
  • MelovinWonder

This year’s entries from France and Poland are expected to attend as well. Composer Konstantin Meladze and 2007 runner-up Andriy Danylko (better known as Verka Serduchka) will be returning to the jury panel and will be joined by last years winner Jamala. The show starts at 18:00CET (17:00GMT) and can be watched on STB, UA, the official website and on YouTube.

logoDenmark – It’s time for the Melodi Grand Prix! A rather secret National Final is hosted every year by DR. Unlike their neighbors in Sweden and Norway, this is a smaller and less extravagant contest. Yet it’s iconic in its own way, for usually bringing a very high production value, with 10 slick and well produced entries!

The show will be held at the Jyske Bank Arena, in Herning. Annette Heick (DMGP 2007) & Johannes Nymark (Lighthouse X, Denmark 2016) will host the show. Out of 1115 entries, the 10 finalists are:

  1. Ida Una – One
  2. Thomas Ring – Vesterbro
  3. Rikke Skytte – Color my world
  4. Anja – Where I am
  5. Calling Mercury – Big little lies
  6. Anthony – Smoke in my eyes
  7. René Machon – Warriors
  8. Sada Vidoo – Northern lights
  9. Jeanette Bonde – Hurricane
  10. Johanna Beijbom – A.S.A.P.

There will be two rounds, in each the vote will be made by 50% televote and 50% made of five dedicated Danish Eurovision fans, whatever that means? The first round selects the three superfinalists where the winner will be selected for Kiyv! The show starts at 20:00 (CET) and can be watched here or through DR’s YouTube channel.

melodifestivalen swedenSweden – It’s the most anticipated National Final within the Eurovision Fandom and it resumes tonight with their fourth and last of the four semi finals. Melodifestivalen is finally here and we have some familiar faces taking part in this first edition.

Seven Acts will take to the stage at the Skellefteå Kraft Arena in Skellefteå and will compete for the chance to make the grand final on March 11th. The top two will reach the grand final and the acts that come third and fourth will proceed onto the Second Chance round. This week we see the return of Jon Henrik FjällgrenWiktoria, Sara Varga and of course 2012 winner Loreen.

First week finalists were Nano and Ace Wilder, second weeks were Mariette and Benjamin Ingrosso and third weeks were Robin Bengtsson and Owe Thörnqvist. The semi-finalists for tonight are:

  1. Jon Henrik Fjällgren feat. AniniaEn värld full av strider
  2. Alice SvenssonRunning with lions
  3. Les GordonsBound to fall
  4. WiktoriaAs I lay me down
  5. Axel SchylströmNär ingen ser
  6. Sara Varga & Juha Mulari – Du får inte ändra på mig
  7. LoreenStatements

It’s 100% televote tonight. The first round eliminates the bottom 2 entries. The second round sees 5 entries battling for the four qualifying places, two “direkt til finalen” and two to “andra chasen”. How much do we learn Swedish in MF, really? The show starts at 20:00 (CET) and can be watched here.

logoIceland – It’s time for the Söngvakeppnin! A rather small and cozy National Final is hosted every year by RÚV, Iceland. For the past few years, this is a two Semi-finals system, with a first round in Icelandic and a Final of 7 entries (3 from each semis, then 1 jury wildcard), which can be performed in Iceland or English.

Tonight six acts will take the stage at Háskólabíó in Reykjavík. The line up is:

  1. Aron Hannes EmilssonNótt
  2. HildurBammbaramm
  3. Rúnar Eff Rúnarsson – Mér við hli
  4. Júlí Heiðar Halldórsson & Þórdís Birna Borgarsdóttir – Heim til þín
  5. Erna Mist Pétursdóttir – Skuggamynd
  6. Arnar Jónsson & Rakel PálsdóttirTil mín

It’s 100% televote tonight. The show starts at 20:45 (CET) and can be watched here.

moldovaMolodva – Tonight sees TRM hold its Final for this year’s O Melodie Pentru Europa selection contest.  14 acts battled it out last night and 8 of them qualified for tonight’s show. Four were chosen with the jury, and the last four were then chosen with televote. So it’s hard to know if there’s a really big favorite, though Sunstroke is always a sure bet.

This is tonight’s line-up (first four are jury picks, last four televote’s):

  1. SunStroke Project– Hey mamma
  2. Samir LoghinGlow
  3. Valeria Paşa – Freedom
  4. Aurel Chirtoacă – Dor de mamă
  5. Diana Brescan– Breathe
  6. Marks & Stefanet– Join us in the rain
  7. Ethno Republic & Surorile Osoianu– Discover Moldova
  8. Vozniuc feat. Vio Grecu– Don’t lie

The show begins at 18:35 CET and you can watch it here on TV Moldova 1.

lithuaniaLithuania – This is week 8 of the impossible to follow Lithuanian National Final. So based on what we gathered online, we have 8 more songs competing tonight with only 6 making it through. All of tonight’s entries have already performed before. Tonight’s show is hosted by Gabriele Martirosianaite and Ieva Stasiulevičiūte.

This is tonight’s line-up:

  • Alanas Chošnau7 days
  • PaulaLet u go

  • Queens of RosesFisherman

  • Valerija Iljinaitė – You made me glow

Just like last week, the jury is now part of the results, which will be decided by a 50% jury and 50% televote system. The jury is made of Darius Užkuraitis, Ramūnas Zilnys (music reviewer), Povilas Meškėla (singer) and Vytautas Lukočius (conductor). The show will be broadcasted on LRT tonight at 20:00 (CET) and can be watched here.

  1. This duet in Iceland just warms my heart, it’s adorable :)

  2. 1st qualifier: logical. Now Aaron and the charming couple please.

  3. Oh come on the wrong duet made it !

  4. The wrong couple made it. LOL Now the wildcard please!

  5. Iceland was very close to perfect results but, being Iceland, they had to ruin it at the end. At least Rúnar Eff made it.

  6. my bf top 3 in iceland is out lol

  7. I will listen to the chosen songs now for the last time before my parents’ preview party. Yes, I am only a few hours away from my first solid ranking. :)

  8. Ranking of tonight’s picks :

    1. Denmark
    2. Moldova
    3. Ukraine

Not 100 % sure about 2 and 3 though. I will go through them again before I score and rank. This is just a first reaction.

  9. I think Oxi will really like Runar in more than one ways.

  10. I missed the Icelandic results. :( I’ll be back later to see who reached the final.

  11. We go two really bad songs tonight – UKR and MLD and one bad from Denmark. That Sweden is funwanking on Wiktoria is also lame.

  12. Til Min!!!Yeah.My favorite qualified.

  13. Does anyone have any clues as to what is happening with Russia or San Marino?

    • No.They haven’t announced anything yet.

    • Russia shortlisted five artists: Elena Temnikova, Darya Antonyuk, Aleksander Panayotov, Nyusha, and Soprano Turetskogo. Also, the Moscow Eurovision PreParty is 100% confirmed so I really doubt they’re gonna withdraw.

San Marino however said that their participation “isn’t 100% confirmed still” which is weird. I don’t see them withdrawing either though.

  14. Great results in Iceland.I’m not really into “Nott” but Arnar is hot and it was obvious he’d win the teenage vote.

  15. Ukraine:

  16. People in greek eurovision boards are commenting that Loreen should have been an interval act, not competing.

    • It felt like that :p

    • It had a “The grey people” feel to it. I consider that a compliment though, interval acts can be better than many competing songs sometimes.

      • Just don’t expect her to win Anton in the televote.

        • Oh she will walk all over him, I do not worry about that.

          • Not so sure about that..he’s a knockoff Shawn Mendes, but the u12 vote is ruthless when it comes to cute boys with guitars.

            • I like him quite a bit but if he had that cute guy momentum he would make it to the final directly.

MF has its way of restoring justice every step of the way all these years and that’s what will happen in this case. Probably going through AC will be better for “Statements” as well. More exposure can only benefit this song and performance.

            • She is toast actually. It is the MF producers who decided thi and I don’t think it’s cool. The audience was right to send her to AC (respect to swedes for actually evaluating the total package regardless of who someone is) but pairing her with a cute guy with a guitar to lose is downright disrespectful to what she has given to Sweden.

  17. I missed the Icelandic semi for these computer reasons, but I’m sad to read that my dear duet was eliminated. And I who thought that this was that kind of music Icelandic people appreciated. :(

  18. Alma’s performance in the ukrainian final :

  19. After Jamala’s win last year, Loreen probably thought: Great, an artsy song and performance can win ESC these days. Unfortunately, she forgot that she needed to go through MF first, and the MF (app) voting will instantly throw away everything even remotely close to a work of art. Poor lady … LOL

    • As i said before the results were announced this was way too artsy to make it to the final. The whole staging was intense but rather apocalyptic and ominous.Loreen had said that she had things she wanted to share with people about what’s going on in the world atm.But Swedish televoters may be put off by that on a cold Saturday evening.MF is all about the big show.

      • MF voters took the right decision. Artsy and angsty is not the same thing as actual art and Jamala did not bring a pastiche potpourri to Eurovision. There is no comparison between “1944” and this unfortunately.

        • I didn’t compare it to “1944”.What’s artsy or not depends on what each one of us evaluates as art based on our values, taste, mindset etc.It was angsty but for me it was a positive thing. It was intense and not MF friendly.Plus,i’m not the biggest fan of it but i can see what she wanted to say.And i also didn’t say that televoters did a mistake sending her to AC.I was kinda sure she was going to AC even before the results were announced.I don’t know why my post created so much controversy.lol

          • Not controversy at all, just discussion :) I do understand what she wants to say when she sings “we don’t need your way out” but the rest did not interest me enough to try to decipher it honestly. Art is all about communication and I feel there was a breakdown in communication between artist and audience because of not very clear ideas on the artist’s part.

            • Or maybe it’s just that MF voters link MF more with Saturday night fun.

            • That is where I think you are getting it wrong. Somehow implying she is “too good” or “too artistic” for ESC or MF because people want something lighter for their Saturday night when in fact this is visibly not good enough.

“1944” was 100 times darker, more ominous and disturbing than this. But it also felt like real art, not performance art.

            • There’s no right or wrong.Just opinions.I didn’t say it was too good for esc.I said it may be too left-field,controversial presentation etc.I don’t think i would compare it to what happened with 1944 in Ukraine.Different song,a very straightforward presentation and most importantly a different audience.Ukraine is a country at war so songs like that speak to their souls. It resonates with them 100%.That’s not the case in Sweden.

            • I am talking about how “1944” resonated to the rest of Europe, not Ukraine. I am not seeing this Marina Abramovic impersonation resonating.

  20. My favorite song from tonight’s semi in Iceland:

  21. I don’t know about results, but betting-wise this has been an extremely successful night for me :)
Both Anja won Dansk MGP (placed a bet on her at 5.50)
and Jon ft Aninia qualified directly (I placed a bet on them as well at 3.75)
