ETSC 6: Discover the Draw!

ETSC August 2016ETSC – Every year, the summer is the calm after the storm so it’s the perfect time to resume the highly anticipated the Eurovision Times Song Contest! 45 of you entered for the August 2016 edition and a random draw was made today! Discover the draw now and the songs!

Each summer, a good number of regular readers stay around for different reasons (they don’t get breaks from work or don’t go on holidays…) but there aren’t much news to keep us going. So the last few years we introduced all sort of games. The Eurovision Times Awards (Fridas) and the Douze Points Trivia Quiz kept us going in 2013 and Fridas have made come-backs the past four years. Two years ago, a lot of you asked for a fake Eurovision where each one of us would send songs and get to vote. And that was it: the Eurovision Times Song Contest, from then on known as ETSC.

We’ve had five editions, two in 2014: July 2014 and August 2014, both won by France; the third edition was held in July 2015 and won by the United-Kingdom; the fourth edition was held in Augusut 2015 and was won by Austria. Last month, the fifth edition was helf and won by Israel’s Asaf Avidan with “Gold Shadow“. For more information, you can discover our new page dedicated to the contest, with its history, all songs participating and the rankings here. You can also find it by clicking on the “Specials” section of the site, in the top menu in the red box, just under the site’s name. “ETSC 6 – August 2016” will be officially held in Jerusalem and as for venue, it’ll be the Al-Hakawati Theater! And a somewhat innovative host, as it’ll be entirely animated by Ari Folman‘s work! The logo for it is inspired by the winner again:

ETSC August 2016

After a first round open for people to sign up with a country and send a song, we got 45 people in, with a few of our regulars missing (Cathal, Mermaid, Jade, Hulluna, Stommie) but still newbies joining! Hopefully, they all will make appearances in comments. But also some people who returned from last summer and from FDLC (Mylor, Ren, Daniel…). Songs will be revealed Tuesday night. In the meantime, to keep us busy, I made a random draw with my computer. I also made personal postcards for each entry which will be revealed along with the songs. Everyone can request to see their own postcards for now.

Does the draw really matter? Maybe so, after all #1 and #12 spots both got Top 3 in the first two editions! In ETSC 1 France won going as #12 while Norway was runner-up going as #1. In ETSC 2 the United-Kingdom went as #12 to achieve second place and Bosnia & Herezgovina finished 3rd going first! But in an online game, people get to listen multiple times to the songs, and in any order they want. So it’s quite possible to say that the draw is more of a gimmick than a true influence on the results.

So here’s the draw:

1  Israel Israel
2  Ukraine Ukraine
3  Netherlands Netherlands
4  Cyprus Cyprus
5  Germany Germany
6  UK United-Kingdom

Tecku : Hudson Taylor – Battles (ETSC 5)
Luke : Sinéad O’Connor – Take Off Your Shoes (ETSC 1)

  6. Talking of swimmers, this is greek Stefanos Dimitriadis who just missed his heat in the 200m butterfly but is still quite a sight:

  7. Speaking of attractive men currently in Rio de Janeiro, my gold medal goes to Israeli judoka Sagi Muki.

  8. Some hints about our entry: the author is famous for singing in the dialect of the region he comes from, he is mainly music producer and had good result in a Eurovision related project. Song is about someone who whole day long waits for the night so he could think about his beloved alone and sleepless…

  9. Fencing was really frustrating today, the referees showed ridiculous bias in favor of russian athletes imo.

Btw Morgan what do you think of the british gymnastics team ;-) ? My thoughts are yum! mainly :-D

  10. Can’t follow Olympic Games but fingers crossed for the only blond representative of our team – wrestler Artur Aleleksanian who is the only hope for gold for us. Don’t know whether he is hot but he is a strong guy, very strong one 😀

And the first Armenian who got gold medal In this Olympics was Yana Egoryan who gained it for Russia! This is the case that having diaspora makes me really sad 😈😀

  11. Dimi – I am disappointed. After saying we did not deserve any medals we won some.

  12. Still no medal in sight for Germany. We’ll probably have to rely on our overweight athletes throwing stuff around …

  13. If anyone needs autograph from Tom Daley just let me know. I don’t want to brag it but I go to the same gym as him – Olympic park :) Not my type but he has a nice body.
