ETSC 5 – The Results Tonight!

ETSC July 2016ETSC – Every year, the summer is the calm after the storm so it’s the perfect time to resume the highly anticipated the Eurovision Times Song Contest! 45 of you entered for the July 2016 edition and the voting went on for ten days! The results are coming tonight!

Each summer, a good number of regular readers stay around for different reasons (they don’t get breaks from work or don’t go on holidays…) but there aren’t much news to keep us going. So the last few years we introduced all sort of games. The Eurovision Times Awards (Fridas) and the Douze Points Trivia Quiz kept us going in 2013 and Fridas have made come-backs the past four years. Two years ago, a lot of you asked for a fake Eurovision where each one of us would send songs and get to vote. And that was it: the Eurovision Times Song Contest, from then on known as ETSC.

After a first round open for people to sign up with a country and send a song, we got 45 people in, with a few of our regulars missing (here’s a nod to you Stommie) and a few newbies! Hopefully, they all will make appearances in comments. But also some people who returned from last summer and from FDLC (Sedapsi, Tristian…). Songs were revealed two weeks ago. I made a random draw with my computer. I also made personal postcards for each entry which were revealed along with the songs (everyone can still request to see their own postcards in full size).

Results will come in tonight at 21:00 CET. You can rewatch the songs by clicking the picture below:

It was two weeks ago that we discovered each song individually in a dramatic night reveal-show. And after that, each of the 45 players cast a vote. All votes are now in and we have a winner (also a full ranking, obviously). So gather around, for “ETSC 5, July 2016″ is about to come to an end!

This fifth event is officially hosted in Salzburg, Austria after “Leyla” by Thorsteinn Einarsson won “ETSC 4, August 2015″. The official hosts are Elyas M’Barek and Conchita Wurst in the green room! The venue is the Salzburgarena:

Now, all you need to do is get ready and prepared. The votes will be revealed one by one, following the random draw in which the songs were presented (so from Sweden to Italy). One vote at a time, with a few minutes in between to give enough time for people to react, predict, comment, discuss. Also, if the person is around, he can, if he wishes to, explain a bit further his votes, what he thought of the songs. The votes are all on a scoreboard, to not reveal too much for people who can’t make it tonight, and you’ll see links for them in this page (so you’ll need to refresh often). Votes start very soon!

  1. Great result congratulations Israel! (Mark) I managed two of the top three (hugely better than last year) and again 6 of the top 10 with all my top 10 making the Top 20.
Poland is delighted with its 27th place and 41 points. Thank you to each HoD who voted and had it in their Top 10.
For me it’s a massive leap from 42nd place and 9 points with only 3 HoDs voting (I think I trebled that!)
Thoroughly enjoyed everything about ETSC5. Thank you Morgan for such stellar work. Massive kudos and huge appreciation.
Well done everybody. Final rankings will follow.

  2. And officially ”A Long Walk” is among my least successful entries. I never saw that this way but I enjoyed being part of ETSC once again.

  3. Ok then, congratulations to Israel for their sweeping victory! My comments on the top-10:

Unfortunately neither of the top two songs (Israel and Sweden) featured in my personal top-20 and that’s a personal disappointment. Neither did the #10 (UK). As for Holland, just like Australia I felt it was already a too well-known hit for me to rate it against the others. Only 4 songs in the final top-10 were in my top-10 as well: #3 France (my 12p), #4 Azerbaijan (my 6p), #5 Tunisia (my 10p) and #6 Croatia (my 5p). I was certain France and Azerbaijan would do well but I am very surprised that Bosnia (my 8p) did not.

As for Austria finishing in the top-15 and on the left hand side of the scoreboard I am just elated and it was right around what I expected! When I chose the song I thought that maybe top-10 would be in order but after I heard the rest of the line-up I knew that was out of the question as the level of the competition was insane! So #15 for Austria is simply amazing. Thanks a lot!

  4. Happy enough with 23rd as I predicted 20th – 30th placing! Luxembourgs best placing in ETSC. Its also my worst placing (ETSC 3 – 22nd, 4 – 13th) but it’s not bad considering the small selection in Luxembourg

  5. Also thank you to our webmaster for his great work and goodnight Europe!

  6. I HOPE Australia is back and up for grabs in the august edition. I really, really do.

  7. Thank you Morgan, it’s been wacky and fun! Looking forward next edition!
    Good night everyone!

  8. Update on my results so far:

  9. The prediction game results will be revealed soon! Stay tune!

  10. Congratulations to Mark and Israel! Loved the song, so beautiful and emotional, it’s really a masterpiece for me! <3

The results overall are a bit surprising for me, I got only 5/10 right in top 10, but I did like all the songs in the top 10. Tunisia was quite an instant like for me, but after more listenings it kept going down in my ranking although I liked it the same.

Thanks to all who voted for Cyprus, especially for those 4 12p! Much appreciated! :)
I really loved this edition and can't wait for ETSC 6! :D

  11. Best result ever for Tecku!

  12. The Greek hints:

12pts= Awarded then stripped = Ukraine was originally won the bid to host the Eurobasket 2015 but was stripped off due to safety reasons.

10pts= Defined a region in a key element = Vienna and in general the Austrian Empire was responsible for the Baroque/Art Nouveu architecture which you are able to see in big and small cities from Austria to west Ukraine and Romania and from south Poland down to Slovenia and north Croatia and Serbia.

8pts= Those six days = refers to the -days war Israel fought with its Arab neighbours at which point Israel expanded in expense (mostly) of the Palstinians.

7pts= It shares smth with one country in south Europe = Turkish and Croatian flag feature a crescent!

6pts= The oldest = within EU Cyprus offers the oldest human settlements (dated around 11th and 10th millennium BC)

5pts= Green roof = refers to the roof of a prominent mosque of Tunisia; the Hamouda Pacha.

4pts= They serve it like espresso – the package = refers to the hot chocolate for which Belgium is famous for.

3pts= Will it go underneath? = the extreme climate change scenarios predict that large parts of the Netherlands will submerge by the end of this century.

2pts= There are 2 in fact = refers to Azerbaijan. Apart from the republic a region within Iran is called Iranian Azerbaijan. It is divided in four administrative divisions; West and East Azerbaijan, Ardabil and Zanjan.

1pt= 40km (or so) of interruption = the Mediterranean coast of Croatia stops at some point to allow BiH to have access to the sea.

    • I knew it!I remembered that Ukraine was stripped of a tournament but didn’t remember which one it was.lol

  13. Just saw!!!! Thank u Monaco! Thank u Latvia for 12 points!!!! Disappointed because i think swiss song is extremely underrated
