ET Awards 2016: Best Entry!

fridas 2016Eurovision 2016 – This year we resume the “Eurovision Times Awards” to give prizes (the Fridas) for the best in every category! And you get to vote! Today, we resume the polls with the two categories focused on top entries!

2016 will be the fourth year for Eurovision Times to organize a new contest (you can check 2013’s results here, the 2014’s ones here, and the 2015’s ones here). As with the past few years, our blog hosts now two contests: TEKO which takes place before the contest and the “Eurovision Times Awards” after the contest. The principle of the ET Awards is simple, in each categories, the staff of this website will nominate a few entries per categories and open polls for the public to vote in them so we can reveal afterwards all the winners. The winners recieve an imaginary trophee, entitled the Fridas in hommage to Frida Boccara, the French Eurovision winner in 1969 with “Un jour, un enfant“.

The last award is in the “Result” category and it’s “Best Entry”. Here are the results of the recommendations made by the regular users of Eurovision Times in this category:

  • 14 Ukraine
  • 6 Latvia
  • 4 Georgia
  • 3 France
  • 2 Estonia
  • 2 Sweden
  • 1 Armenia
  • 1 Australia
  • 1 Germany
  • 1 Russia
  • 1 Serbia
  • 1 Switzerland
  • 1 Serbia

However, it’s down to the staff of Eurovision Times to choose the official nominees and it was difficult since there were so many different arguments for so many entries. As the most important award of them all, we decided, like in oscars, to have more nominees in this category; after 7 in 2013, 8 in 2014 and 6 in 2015, there’ll be 8 nominees in 2016 (Austria and Netherlands being the most nominees without being nominated here). Now, it’s up to you to vote in our poll below! You need to click on the country’s name to be redirected to the video of the song with the live eurovision performance. The nominees in alphabetical order are:

This is its 7th nomination; it finished 2nd in Eurovision with 511pts

This is its 5th nomination; it finished 6th in Eurovision with 257pts; it won TEKO

This is its 6th nomination; it finished 20th in Eurovision with 104pts

This is its 6th nomination; it finished 16th in Eurovision with 124pts, TEKO runner-up

This is its 7th nomination; it finished 15th in Eurovision with 132pts

This is its 5th nomination; it finished 3rd in Eurovision with 491pts

This is its 6th nomination; it finished 5th in Eurovision with 261pts

This is its 10th nomination; it finished 1st in Eurovision with 534pts, TEKO 3rd

Rules: the polls will be open for a week. At the end of the week, an article will announce the winner of the category but not the detailed results. The full results will however be given to you once all polls are closed so that you don’t get influenced (we never know) in your following votes. Every IP gets only one vote, please do not cheat! Of course, it’s pointless to vote only for your own country unless you’re really certain it should win. May the best win!

  1. I had to limit it to 8: so Austria, Bulgaria and Netherlands are the other most nominees who have to sit the most important award out. France is only there because it won TEKO, while the favorites of the three webmasters and ET workers are all nominated as well, as other obvious favorites based on recommendations and current votes among regular voters, are nominated to complete the round-up.

  2. Song-wise : Italy
    Performance wise : Ukraine

  3. I would love to vote for France, Latvia, Sweden and Australia here as well – all entries that showcase that esc is moving to the right direction and give me hope for the future.

But this is another category I have to vote for Ukraine.

  4. Ukraine by far!

  5. My vote went to Georgia.

  6. Ukraine managed to excell in some form of way in every nomination considering the performance and song so far. The other nominees lacked at least one or two nominations, which makes it fairly easy for me to vote for Jamala!
It seems that this award season is gonna be one of the better once considering the results so far and im happy to see such diversity in the voting meaning that we have learnt something from the tragic Award season of 2014

  7. This is a tough one. Ukraine had a great song with a good performance, Latvia had a good song with a very good performance and Georgia had a decent song with a great performance.

I will have a think and vote tomorrow.

  8. I’m glad to see more than 5 nominees here. :)

  9. I have to go with my #1 here and that’s Latvia, but I loved Ukraine and Georgia too.

  10. I was tempted to vote for Georgia but in the end, I couldn’t betray Ukraine.

  11. Off Topic: I have created this spreadsheets thats gonna be called (for now) ETESC 2016 Top haha XD This is supposed to be a fun thing to see how we as a jury would have given our points this contest! All of the countries who performed are present, even the ones who failed to get to the final!

This will just be an experiment at first to see how many of you guys are interested in this (imo awesome) idea! Now almost all of you guys and me included have a top ten of this season so I thaught why not use it for something exciting ;)

If you’re interested in this please give your points as a reply to this comment or send an email with your points and avatar name/alias to schultze94@gmail.com.

Update: Already 14 of you guys have voted and this is the result so far:

    1. Ukraine: 128
    2. Latvia: 101
    3. Georgia: 67
    4. Armenia: 51
    5. Bulgaria: 50 (9 voters)
    6. France: 50 (8 voters)
    7. Australia: 40
    8. Italy: 38
    9. The Netherlands: 32
    10. Hungary: 29

The two favorites are still in a massive lead and we now have a new top 3 with Georgia who seem to have gained some momentum towards the rest of the bunch! Spain and FYR Macedonia just gained its first point and we welcome The Netherlands in the top ten!

Here is the link to the whole spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1rTk18Y8n03vefI-UM5dkgGshiYl-DoXqJUTxSUr2wis/edit#gid=0

May the best ET-ESC 2016 song win! :D

  12. Ukraine all the way again. 2016 was a poor year and some of the nominees prove that. Ukraine, Latvia, Italy and Georgia are way above the remainaing 4.

P.S. – and that is all as far as votes are concerned! I did it! (happy emoji)

  13. Off-topic: It is a mild summer night in Berlin tonight, and thus my Mediterranean soul urged me to go for a walk … and guess what? In the Italian restaurant down the road they played “Walk on Water”. Long live ESC.
