Lyrics:
(Taken from Eurovision.tv)

Verse 1
We can never let the word be unspoken
We will never let our loving go come undone
Everything we had is staying unbroken, now
you will always be the only one
you’re the only one

Bridge
Wont ever give up cause you’re
Still somewhere out there
nothin’ or no-one’s gonna keep us apart
Breakin’ it down but i’m still gettin’ nowhere
wont stop – hold on

Chorus
Thunder ‘n’ lightning it’s gettin’excitin’
Lights up the skyline to show where u are
My love is rising the story’s unwindin’
Together we’ll make it ‘n’ reach for the stars
You’re the only one you’re my only one
You’re my life every breath that i take
Unforgettable so unbelievable
You’re the only one – my only one

Verse 2
I could have told you to slow down ‘n’ stay down
I could have told you a secret wont u keep it now
Thinking of making a showdown when love is found
Thinking of waiting till you’re around

Bridge
Wont ever give up cause you’re
Still somewhere out there
nothin’ or no-one’s gonna keep us apart
Breakin’ it down but i’m still gettin’ nowhere
Wont stop – hold on

Chorus
Thunder ‘n’ lightning it’s gettin’excitin’
Lights up the skyline to show where u are
My love is rising the story’s unwindin’
Together we’ll make it ‘n’ reach for the stars
You’re the only one you’re my only one
You’re my life every breath that i take
Unforgettable so unbelievable
You’re the only one – my only one

Thunder ‘n’ lightning it’s gettin’excitin’
Lights up the skyline to show where u are
You’re the only one you’re my only one
You’re my life every breath that i take
Unforgettable so unbelievable
You’re the only one – my only one

  1. Oh my, we still have to see the spotlight on Bosnia-H.

  2. I dont get the fuss about Russia at all , everything about it is so average but it looks many people disagree with me since it is so high on the odds :S

  3. Sorry i must make a correction:IMO song and the singer is average but the stage show was above average.

  4. The song is very catchy and addictive and he is a very good singer. The show is basically a very thinly veiled reference to militarism (the black uniforms) and world domination (the young version of Putin standing proud on top of the world lit by the blighting sun of the Motherland). He executes everything like a good soldier doing his drills, but you can tell the strain by his facial expressions. And of course everything starts off under the wings of the russian eagle (a reference to Byzantium and tsarist Russia) and continues with a not-so-thinly-veiled reference to the epopee of soviet space travel. So on balance I would say quite impressive as a declaration of intent, but overbearing for what should be a pop song that’s supposed to make you joyful and happy. The fact that they have not casted him in the hedonistic role of the gay-baiting shirtless hunk like everybody expected speaks volumes by itself.

So Ukraine comes to the contest with overt political references while Russia’s political motivations are equally obvious but pretend to be more covert and supposedly “apolitical”. If the final showdown becomes Russia vs Ukraine as seems more and more likely (with France playing the role of the spoiler, like Italy last year) things could get very heated very fast and the EBU system of playing hard and fast with the rules and turning a blind eye to all sorts of infractions will come under severe strain. Yesterday’s shenanigans between Armenia and Azerbaijan will look like kindergarten play compared to what we may witness.

Of course all this comes with the territory of wanting to create a huge, international, globally ambitious telecast. If you want to be a global player, expect to be dragged into global conflict. Especially in an era when Europe seems less and less like an island of peace and prosperity than it used to.

  5. After the thorough analysis posted above, I can only say that I find the whole act dull and devoid of any interest; I may add that it comes across as ridiculous as well, especially the middle section. His vocals are good.

    • Oh but the semiotics of it are unbelievable. His willpower is enormous (the huge sun) but it is nothing compared to the duty to the Motherland. The sun suddenly becomes very small and a female figure also dressed in black (a mother figure rather than a love interest) comes to collect it. It is the weirdest scene until you start searching for some meaning to it all.

Even for viewers who don’t think about all the references (the eagle of tsarist Russia moving on to the Soviet empire and its cherished space programme, all culminating to the figure of the lone autocrat standing tall over the world) messages always get registered subliminally. Will viewers approve of this ambitious tale of someone who knows what needs to be done and sets the world right? Or will they prefer someone who seems more charismatic and less complicated, someone who sells sunny optimism like Amir? Can the multicultural society represented by Amir, coming from a country where that society was severely attacked and himself on the faultline of that conflict (a jew of north african descent married to a turkish woman) still afford to believe in this optimistic future?

Or will Europe be swayed by the extroardinary power of the tales told by the ghosts that have come back to haunt it, long forgotten but never really extinguished, as relayed by the extraordinary storytelling power of that wise old soul from Ukraine? A place on the faultline of civilisations as so many times before in its long history.

One thing is certain. It is going to be one interesting contest. And not because of Justin Timberlake (although it is interesting that the New World represented by America and Australia will also be there and not justas a spectator in the conflicts of the Old). History marches on and the world is a stage.

      • I will be watching on Saturday drinking red wine, eating cheese and cherries, while thinking about flower power and French sunny optimism.

  6. Middle of the road, plastic stuff. Not hateful though.

He looks very sexy in that pic.

  7. The song is really average but he convinced me that he was a good performer
I wish he had used less visual effects…no moment goes without an action…very busy
I don’t want him win but he deserves a good place imo

      • I Said “I don’t want him win” and you are sending kisses??????? 😎

        • I know, but you showed well deserved respect for this entry. Kisses are for that. I’m getting a bit tired of the certain hate posts and bashing re: Sergey.

          • I call a spade a spade
I never hated Sergey..I just find his song old fahioned and average and think there are more worthy songs…of course if he wins I’ll I respect it

            • That’s the attitude I like. I think Kontopolous songs live in the universe of their own. Never up to date, so can’t really be outdated either. For me they are ESC songs, native ESC songs.

            • Hmmm I prefer your pick for Russia anytime

            • Producer of UMK, Anssi Aalto, doesn’t find anything wrong in the entry. The show was good, done by well seasoned professionals (obviously as Finland is one of the true super powers of ESC), it was a bit surprising that visuals are so popular this season and goes belittling it as eastern trend (Not too familiar with ESC this man), Sanja sang well, selection process was ok (He doesn’t see anything remotely funny of jury groups consisting of children, lorry drivers, rainbow people (!) etc., he denies that it was these juries that chose Sanja, start number is wrong because Oscar missed the final because of it. (Not too familiar with YLE’ s ESC history), UMK is popular so there’s nothing wrong with it.
Oh dear. I got a bit mad. I’m in process of writing email to him and his superiors. This is utterly non sense. The producer is out of his depth. I’m not waiting YLE to turn into SVT or even ERT of it’s strong years or ETV. I just want them to take this seriously.

        • Besides, I can send you 😘 one more just for you being here. Ok?

  8. From a report I read :

“Increasing number of LGBTQ activists fleeing the country

According to statistics from 2015, by the end of the fiscal year, 1,454 Russian nationals filed new asylum applications, up 50 percent from the previous year and more than double that filed in 2012. Immigration Equality reports that their caseloads have jumped from 50 to 60 requests for assistance from Russian LGBTQ people in 2012 to 180 requests in 2014, according to Al Jazeera. Not only has this drained the Russian LGBT community of resources and leadership, state-media reports of fake asylum cases have cast a shadow over activists’ credibility.”

Now go on flamboyant singing and dancing propaganda toy boy about the “rumours” of persecution in Russia.

That’s all I have to comment in this article.

  9. Together with Malta (and probably Azerbaijan although I like the Azeri song) MOST overrated entry of semi 1.
Dated, uninspired song with lame (so 2014) stage show.
Of course this wins and I am making 12 E from the betting agency :P

  10. Wow plastic!
Russia and Mr. Lazarev will give Kontopoulos his well deserved crowning moment on saturday.
In my opinion this should be the third one. UKR 8 (Please, please Ukraine proper come back next year) and AZE 13.
And all you grumpy dear Greeks! Light up! You do hell of a ethno and hell of plastic. Who else can say that 😃

    • Ethno was a bit shit this year, well quite a lot? of course. I wasn’t referring to that.

    • Can you tell me what’s Mikael’s and Saara’s opinion about Sandja’s performance?How nice to invite them.lol http://areena.yle.fi/1-3457532

      • I’m just off to bed, but I’m happy to give you full media report tomorrow including this one, dear Reuters. “In Denial” could be the headline. I’m even more angry with YLE now.

      • Saara likes the song a lot and understands the chosen approach, but she still wondering what would have happened with a bigger show and proper use of the stage. She obviously is a fan of big stagings. Mikael likes the song a lot and his sentiment towards big shows is quite critical. Yle Radio Suomi Head of music is the most critical one. He thinks it’s only done half way, singing is shaky, something important is missing. I’m very glad something like this from YLE.

        • Mehh.I hate it when the people responsible for a project are so out of touch with reality. The same with Greek ERT officials.UMK 2012-2014 was so much better and interesting and right when it had started bearing its fruit they revamp it making it a weird show with a bad voting system.

      • For some reason my report on UMK producer went into my chat with Mermaid in this thread. Check it from there.

  11. So,in this Finnish damage control show they aired parts of Russia,France,Sweden and Armenia as big favorites and then asked about their favorites Saara named Armenia while Mikael and the other guy Ukraine. You got to love him even more. <3

    • Zoe charting in the i-tunes of 13 countries, only second to Sergei since yesterday and a little ahead of Amir!

      http://esctracker.com/

      Wow!!

      • She’s actually in 4th place atm but i agree she’s doing great.

        • I see her second right now charting in 15 countries to Sergey’s 21 and ahead of Frans and Amir who have 12 each. This is insane! Did she finish second in the televote after almost everyone had written her off for the final? Of course I thought “Loin d’ici” had summer hit writtn all over it since day one.

I love it how Austria is risking it and gets rewarded for it for the second time in three years. They are the only ones making the contest a little less predictable.

      • I was in a non fan viewing party, where I was only one familiar with the songs and I wasn’t allowed to brief, so there was no selling. Big hitters were easily Sergey and Zoe. Everything else was kind of unregistred. Zoe will do very well on saturday. Obviously this has happened in many places.

  12. I hate the way he performs, you know the very campy “all in your face look at me I’m beautiful” look… He’s only “bearable” vocally and the song is insanely irritating at how forced it is in its catchyness and “strreilisation of any emotion”. And the live is a copy of a copy. In other words, in my bottom 10, saved from the very last places for all the entries that are just awful, which this one isnt. Even Dima Bilan found its way in my top 10 before esc 2008 (i loved “Never let you go” in 2006) but it dropped out of it after that awfully campy live. But this one wasnt even in my top or close to it on the song or singer merit alone, why can’t Russia win with its good songs? I genuinely liked Polina so much more :'(

  13. I love him, we saw him perform in the Eurovillage today. And he did Take It Off at wiwijam, he’s a pro.

  14. mm I must admit he is a great performer! But it is the pressure behind him I especially dont like for example his collapse! The staging is very forced from the beginning of the number imo and seems just pointless, but the rest after the climbing section is awesome!

  15. Sergey Lazarev is now live on Greek tv making sure he’ll get those 10 pts i guess.

    • Earlier on the same show, Yorgo Kapoutzidis (for the non Greeks-ERT commentor), praised Italy big time. I can see now Italy getting some high points from Greece again.

      • I think the top-3 will be Cyprus,Russia and Armenia or France instead of Armenia. Those 4 are a very likely scenario, imo. And then maybe some pts to Ukraine and Italy.Bulgaria could do well with our televote too.

        • I agree. I believe too that most probably our top 6-7 will consist of those 7 entries (provided that Ukraine and, mostly, Bulgaria, make it to the final).

  16. What’s with this gas leak in Stockholm?I hope everything is fine.
