  1. I always try to remind myself that this glimpse we get during the first rehearsal may be deceiving. But the journalists seem to unanimously praise CZ so it moves to the most likely to qualify category. What about the underwhlming lives of AZ and MLT?Will the juries support them at the expense of more deserving qualifiers?B&H isn’t really good this year and i don’t like the stage approach either but they have this nostalgic old school esc air i kinda like.Estonia was ok but underperformed while ISL got mostly positive reviews.Cyprus may qualify because it stands out as different and it’s schlagerish enough to gain support both from juries and televoters.MNE on the other hand delivered what we knew they would. It’s there,it’s different,it’s messy and it won’t qualify.

  2. Ok toay was a bit busy, but I still managed to finnish this article by 11pm! So, we have all of semi 1 rehearsals, the first one is hard to call for some, 35 seconds isnt much and we seem to be often mislead, but hey, anyone wanna change his or her predictions?

should I come out of my webmaster neutrality to say what I think of it all?

  3. The songs that stick to mind instantly are luckier…The majority of people have no idea what is going on in rehearsals so even if Czech Republic looks like the winner of semi 1, it can still fail to qualify
Visuals, costumes, camera angles will also play a big role…

Get ready to be surprised people

    • I dont think there is a snowball’s chance in hell that CZR wins the semi, in big part because it is the CZR and it is this semi but they should go through. It will be scandalous if they dont imo.

  4. Off-topic: I will be away tomorrow as I am going to Copenhagen to watch an opera: Richard Strauss’ “Salome”.

Good luck with all the rehearsals tomorrow.

  5. I can’t stop lauging at Greta’s picture 😂

  6. As rehearsals keep on taking place it is more evident than EVER that 2016 is a very weak year… Many plastic soulless songs for one night consumption, and a plethora of stage and projection gimmicks… A very bad direction esc is heading to and we all know who’s to blame…
Czech R. : As much I would LOVE to see them through, the song is plain BORING, never develops, chorus is uninteresting same as whole presentation. She is not a convincing performer either.
Austria : I believe this one stands some chances just for being nostalgic, retro-esc. My initial reactions to it were positive back in winter and I believe the “princess” approach isn’t THAT harmful.
Cyprus is ok I guess, not exactly original rock but I like the main singer. Cages should definitely go. Montenegro outshadows them in every aspect though (song, vocals, presentation, lights)
Estonia needs to return to their Esti Laul performance. The Ace card trick is cringe-worthy! Such A LET DOWN! (Netherlands wins this genre HANDS DOWN and Estonia should take lessons)
Iceland is decent in every aspect but a)A song copying previous winners usually fails (EST 14, GER13), b)Greta is both tasteless and uncharismatic on screen (terrible make up and outfit). Still mad at her for ruining “Never Forget” with her awkward grimaces.
Azerbaijan is a tricky one. I believe this snippet is misleading plus I am confident she will look stunning with her real dress. The vocal part and dance routine today were disappointing for sure though.
Malta is another plastic irrelevant song based on HEAVY technology but in an unflattering way (see Russia)
And last BUT definitely least, we have BiH opting for a stage approach so cheap if not vulgar…A weak song too. Better come back next year with Maya again.

  7. As the rehearsals develop this proves to be a much stronger year than initially expected and we may have the best bunch of vocalists the contest has seen in recent years. Lots of interesting songs and artists and well thought out presentations at most part. A very encouraging direction for esc overall. Lets hope televoting wont try to ruin it for yet another year.

On the details Estonia and Czech Republic were the stand outs today. Cohesive presentations, interesting concepts and great vocals for both. They should sail through.

Austria toned down the princess theme and Zoe’s genuine enthusiasm is so contagious ! I really want to see this through but it will be so difficult..

Sweden did Sweden and did it very well. Proffesionalism, Simplicity, teenage charm, consistency. Frans delivers, he does it his own unconventional way and what I saw today is enough for a well deserved top 5.

Iceland and Montenegro both delivered what was expected. I hope Greta gets the co ordination right on the big night but even then I fear she may struggle. A lot.

I am not sure about Malta. We did not get to see much of what was reported but I feel like some things still need to be ironed out and it may be too crowded for its own good. Ira is an experienced performer so I expect her to stand up to the occasion but I wonder if maybe the dress change is unnecessary and she should just have the black outfit throughout.

Cyprus..Very skeptical. I would love it to have a classic band staging without cages and wolfs. They make it feel kind of more shallow. Overall my impression is positive but they need to tone things down.

Bosnia is an aesthetic mess. The fence and the thermal blankets are such an in your face approach it ruins the whole performance. It will qualify but at the expense of something better I am afraid.

And…Azerbaijan or better known as carcrash. Vocally bad, presentation too generic..This needs to be pumped up or it may be edged out of the final.

  8. I’ve decided to not watch the rehearsals but only the pictures. Iceland have of course the coolest look, even if everyone will just think it’s a mix between Loreen’s performance and Måns’ attention stealing backdrop.

Speaking about Måns, he has now been “duckified”.

  9. France in i-tunes:

    2 Mauritius
    12 France
    26 Sweden
    102 Israel
    119 Switzerland
    138 Belgium
    157 Russia
