Lyrics:
(Taken from Eurovision.tv)

Tell me why we always fuel the fire
Why we tend to close our eyes
What’s the reason that we keep on hiding
We can make it if we try

I don’t know
Why we don’t care
There’s nothing to fear
When I know you are there
So let’s not wait
For someone else to
Make it right
Make it right

Take my hand
And never let go
Side by side
We walk an open road
Unbreakable
With hope in our hearts
Step by step
We’ll make a new start

Let’s be soldiers of love
soldiers of love
soldiers of love
For life
Take my hand
And never let go
Never let go
And let’s be soldiers of love

What’s the meaning of a world on fire
And a heart without a soul
I believe that we can shine a light on
What we already ought to know

So let’s not wait
For someone else to
Make it right
Make it right

Take my hand
And never let go
Side by side
We walk an open road
Unbreakable
With hope in our hearts
Step by step
We’ll make a new start

Let’s be soldiers of love
soldiers of love
soldiers of love
For life
Take my hand
And never let go
Never let go
And let’s be soldiers of love

Unbreakable
Don’t let it go
It’s an open road
Time to let it show
Invincible
Gonna climb the wall

Take my hand
And never let go
Never let go

Take my hand
And never let go
Side by side
We walk an open road
Unbreakable
With hope in our hearts
Step by step
We’ll make a new start

Let’s be soldiers of love
soldiers of love
soldiers of love
For life
Take my hand
And never let go
Never let go
And let’s be soldiers of love

  1. Denmark has given us Dansevise. Therefore I can forgive them for everything.

    Well… almost everything :P

  2. The info in the bios of the guys above make me like them and appreciate them even more :-)

The danish entry is the second most unfairly bashed entry this year after Switzerland. The guys of lighthouse X are very talented, have a natural stage awareness and really shine vocally as imo they are among some of the best vocalists this year (which says a lot in a year with so many great vocalists) – which makes sense now given their musical backgrounds as described above.

“Soldiers of Love” is not the strongest danish entry of couse but that says more about the overall quality of the danish entries over the last 7 or so years than the quality of the song itself. Denmark has been among the pioneers of this new, more contemporary and more musically credible esc era : DMGP has been consistently one of the best nfs every year in terms of song quality and that reflected to the chosen entries as well (with biggest highlight of course 2013 and “Only Teardrops”). It is hard to keep those high standards year after year and I understand that, so “Soldiers of Love” represents a small step back for Denmark. That does not mean it is not a good song. Even as Denmark does not deliver its best, it is still enough to be among the better entries this year.
The verses are truly great, well written, substantial and well performed. The bridge is one of the best this year. The chorus is the weak link at the points where the title is repeated. It kind of plodes and loses energy at this point while it should keep building on the momentum from the verses. That’s my only objection here. And the guys really elevate the song with their full of energy and good vibes performance.

Denmark deserves to be in the final and in the top 15 there for sure. This a strong entry with musical virtues I can appreciate.

I am sure they will receive a lot of hatred on this article as well but it doesnt matter. They should know that they do have avid supporters among the esc fans :-) ! I will take this credible entry any time over the embarassments of Montenegro, San Marino and Belarus personally.

    Good luck ! :-)

  3. I am around here all day today because I am cleaning the house and packing suitcases. I am off to Berlin tomorrow morning at 6:40 and will stay there until at least mid-July. At least I will fly back home on the weekends. Nevertheless, this Berlin project means that I will miss most of the ESC season. I will only be around in the evenings and I will have to watch the semi-finals all alone in my hotel room. :(
I’ll also have to skip the next FdlC edition. :(
Anyway, on to Lighthouse X. “Soldiers of Love” is a very simple and inoffensive ditty. The lyrics are very generic but my main concern is how DEN16 will sound live. After all, Lighthouse X were massively supported by pre-recorded vocals in DMGP. All in all, the entry does not do any harm in the 3 minutes it is on but is forgotten a few seconds later, at least by me. Good luck!

  4. My 43rd place. Good luck.

  5. It probably won’t go far, but I like it. Since it has came out, it’s grown on me.

  6. Btw France is coming closer and closer to Russia in the odds :D :

  7. OGAE Portugal :

    12 points go to… France
    10 points go to… Spain
    8 points go to… Italy
    7 points go to… Australia
    6 points go to… Austria
    5 points go to… Bulgaria
    4 points go to… Russia
    3 points go to… Poland
    2 points go to… Serbia
1 point goes to… Czezh Republic

    • Good choices there from OGAE Portugal. Apart from Australia popping up everywhere and the obligatory points next door to Spain…

Off-topic, this is Nina’s live performance in The Voice Croatia in full HD. I would call it a show-stopper.

    • They did vote for the Mediterranean trio. And those pts to Poland :/…I wonder if there are many people of Polish descent living in Portugal.

      • No, there aren’t. OGAE PT voted like tghe others with regional variations. I suspect the Polish song will surprise many of us in May. He sounds very good live and I think he may get a similar result to Lithuania’s in 2011.

        • I wouldn’t be surprised if they qualify for the final. They did it last year too with a song that wasn’t so hyped like this one.The song remains corny and generic and i strongly dislike the way he sings it.I much more prefer the other song he had submitted to the Polish final.

  8. The 5 female backing vocalists for Armenia have been selected after many auditions. This sounds promising for the final vocal performance.

  9. Weird but this right after the Uk makes it feel like “what if Joe & Jake grew a bit and then got a third person in the group, bam Dk”: it’s lame like the Uk, it’s VERY dated, like late 90s early 00s dated and it’s not even godawful so that you keep an interest. Unless juries back them up, Dk could miss again! I wouldnt mind actually. Seriously, it was one of the most meh in a very meh Dk final.

  10. Needless to say that I care very little about this song which I find completely empty. Unoriginal melody, and the lyrics are cliché on cliché. Our worst entry since “Drama Queen” from 2007.

It is unlikely to reach the final. It is of course sad to see my own country missing out, but if I look at the song objectively, I don’t think it deserves to qualify.

  11. Sorry, Nicky, but this is the blandest and lamest contemporary ESC pop entry this year. You are close second.

  12. Well, that’s Denmark in esc :)

  13. Funny thing,I don’t remember their song😂
