Israel: Four More Acts Through to Next Stage.

IsraelIsrael – The quest to find next year’s Israeli entry has been continuing as The Next Star for Eurovision put through another 4 acts this weekend. You can now see their performances online…

Israel The Next Star

The following qualified with over 70% scores:

Nati Marlboro Zafran (89%)
Meir Green (75%)
Adi Achrak (71%)
Duet Almanor (70%

4 other acts were eliminated. Israel is rivalling Lithuania for its complex process this year. It is expected that there are about 15 shows. These first 6 or so to date has seen acts having to get 70% of the vote..but the jury can give a 10% sympathy vote, we think. The next phase will see 15 acts per show performing for the jury and they have to get at least 3 out of four jury votes to go through. If more than 5 per show get 3 or 4 out of 4 votes, the jury must decide who does not go through. Then there appears to be duels and limitations to eventually get 5-10 acts in the grand final!

Israel will perform in the 2nd semi-final on May 12th to avoid a clash with Israel’s Memorial Day for Fallen Soldiers of Israel and Victims of terrorism on 10th May.

  1. I can help with the format of the show.

The watching public download an app for the show and they check in before the performance by an act starts.

Once the act starts, they vote on that app either a yes or a no, and the contestant needs to get 70% of the voters vote as a yes to go through. If one of the judges votes yes, the score gets bumped by 10% (so they can earn up to 40% for “free”).

Not sure about this season, but other seasons there were duel nights and straight up elimination nights.

On duel nights, two contestants sang one after the other and both have to fight for votes. Whoever got a higher percentage stayed.

On elimination nights, a set number of contestants can go through. Lets use 5 as an example. All of the contestants that performed that night are ranked based on their scores and the top 5 moved on.

The thing is that, the more the show advances, the weight of the judges vote is reduced gradually, until it becomes like any other vote by the time the finale comes.

I am not sure if they are doing that this season though.
