Iceland – The Icelandic national broadcaster, RUV, this week revealed more details about this year’s Söngvakeppnin 2016. The deadline for submitting songs is 2nd November 2015 and you can find out more details here.
Songwriters with Icelandic citizenship or permanent residence in Iceland can enter, but can co-write with non-Icelandic songwriters. Two-thirds of the music and one half of the lyrics must be by an Icelandic songwriter. All songs in the semi-final must be in Icelandic language, but in the grand final songs they can sing in English if that is intended for the show in Stockholm.
The semi-finals will be held on 6th and 13th February 2016. 3 songs will qualify for the final, plus a wildcard. The 7 finalists will perform in the grand final on 20th February 2016. In the final, the 7 songs will be narrowed down to 2 superfinalists via a 50/50 jury and televote. The winner will be selected by 100% televote. RUV reserve the right to change the performers before Stockholm, as it is the song that wins!
