Estonia: Eesti Laul Final on 5th March

EstoniaEstonia – The public broadcaster of Estonia, ERR, this week announced that Eesti Laul will again be the process for selecting Estonia’s representative for next year’s Eurovision Song Contest. The deadline for submissions is November 2nd rather than the usual later date of early December.

The executive producer of Eesti Laul 2016, Mart Normet said that this was to enable more radio airplay for the songs and gives more time for us, as well as for the artists to work more thoroughly on the live presentation.

The Eesti Laul 2016 final will take place on 5th March in Tallinn. Tickets for the final will be released by the end of October.

Estonia finished a respectable 7th last year with Elina Born & Stig Rästa singing ‘Goodbye to Yesterday‘. Estonia has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 21 times since making its debut in 1994. Its best result was when it won the contest with Tanel Padar/Dave Benton/2XL in 2001 with the song ‘Everybody‘.

  1. Estonia is one of my favourite ESC countries, and especially in the 90’s, oddly enough. There ain’t a single Estonian entry between 1993-2001 that I don’t like. But after that, they started to go downhill slow but steady until shaping up with Urban Symphony and the introduction of Eesti Laul instead of Eurolaul. But even here we’ve had both ups and downs. While Estonia was my favourite this year for example, they were my absoulte last last year. :p

    Head õnne!

  2. Despite the fact that both in 2015 and 2014, Eesti Laul was not that strong as it has beed the years before, I still consider it one of the best esc selection procedures ever.
I really liked “Goodbye To Yesterday” (#2 on my post contest list), and their performance was really classy.
Best of luck for the 2016 contest.

  3. One of my pet esc nations. Looking forward to this.

  4. Goodbye to yesterday was my fave song last year and my 2nd fave performance after Latvia.
    Those teary eyes! <3

  5. I enjoy Eesti Laul every year, even if the song quality has gone up and down over the last years. I really like the format. :)

  6. Goodbye To Yesterday was definitely one of my faves this year. A respectable Top 10 placing with an excellent song, elegantly dramatic staging and a classy performance.

I also have a soft spot for Rockefeller Street from 2011. Did anyone else like that? It placed a not-so-respectable 24th!

  7. Eesti Laul was one of the few highlights in a bleak NF season. Hopefully it delivers again!

  8. Apart from the fact that it produced a great winner this year’s EL was a big dissapointment in terms of quality, especially compared to 2014 which was an amazing year imo.
“Goodbye to Yesterday” had everything it needed to be higher and even win it and it only got better in Vienna with the staging and the atmosphere created.

    Good luck Estonia !

  9. What happened with these guys?
