ETSC 4: Get to know the songs!

ETSC August 2015ETSC – Every year, the summer is the calm after the storm so it’s the perfect time to resume the highly anticipated the Eurovision Times Song Contest! 45 of you entered for the August 2015 edition and a random draw was made yesterday! Discover the songs live tonight!

Each summer, a good number of regular readers stay around for different reasons (they don’t get breaks from work or don’t go on holidays…) but there aren’t much news to keep us going. So the last few years we introduced all sort of games. The Eurovision Times Awards (Fridas) and the Douze Points Trivia Quiz kept us going in 2013 and Fridas have made come-backs the past two years. Last year, a lot of you asked for a fake Eurovision where each one of us would send songs and get to vote. And that was it: the Eurovision Times Song Contest, from then on known as ETSC.

After a first round open for people to sign up with a country and send a song, we got 45 people in, most everyone returned (a special nod to you Mario) with some newbies again, like Daniel or Jasmin! Hopefully, they’ll make appearances in comments. But also some people who returned from last summer (Sedapsi, William). And a few of our new regulars joined (Bay, Cyphermusic, Ren…). Songs will be revealed Saturday night. In the meantime, to keep us busy, I made a random draw with my computer. I also made personal postcards for each entry which will be revealed along with the songs. Everyone can still request to see their own postcards in full size.

Here are a few facts about the 45 entries:

  • This is our first mle-heavy contest: 14 female solo artists, 3 female groups / 15 male solo artists, 8 male groups / 5 duets
  • 28 national languages (including Ireland, United-Kingdom and Malta) / 17 songs in English
  • Besides a lot of electro-pop, pop, folk, metal, rock, tango, shaky and ballads are all present! Including a song entirely a capella!
  • Only 1 artist did Eurovision, but another 2 did participate in NF! And one song before 2010 was allowed for a small country.

Before the show starts, we get the live reprise of the winning song:

Can we beat last year’s editions in comments? ETSC 1 had 1090 comments and ETSC 2 went all the way to 1607 comments! We broke that record last month when ETSC 3 ended at 1686 comments! We’ll see… Now to listen to the songs, you need to click on the song title. You can see the full postcard when it’s uploaded, stay tune:

Rules: the voting is now open! You can vote until Friday 21st at noon CET! Results will probably be on Saturday 22nd in the evening, hopefully by 21:00 CET! In the meantime, you can do promo for your entry in the comment section here (or not at all). And as for me, I will be going away, from tomorrow until around the 18th (we’re not sure yet with my boyfriend lol) so I will not necessarly reply back right away to your votes, so don’t worry too soon! Ill check in regularly I hope, but I wont promise to have Internet in every hotel we stay in. Once you’ve voted, you can not change your votes, so wait until you’re sure. Also, you have to send me your 11th and 12th in case something goes wrong and we sadly have a DQ. So start voting now!

  1. Athletics World Championships are on in Beijing, am going to be having some late nights :/
Question: How long will the whole voting presentations run to? I take it I should be home and set to go for 8pm here.

  2. So results-wise I did a bad option this time.

  3. I won’t be here for the reveal of the votes as mother is visiting me here in Singapore.

    • I was in Singapore for 4 days in February 2014 :) Beautiful place…I had taken the night train from Malaysia…it was the first sleeper train I’d ever been to…I miss being there, you’re lucky :)

    • I’ve been several times to Singapore. I’d complain that it is too expensive there. But it is nice for me to have a weekend getaway because I live near Singapore , only 45-50 minutes of flight.

  4. The Maltese are getting into ETSC mode now, people are setting screens up decorations are out, fireworks set, foods from all nastions competing are being served in all major cities! Good luck to everyone! Malta you can do it go for gold Muxu & Talitha! Still Missing you!

  5. Malta has chosen their spokes person it is Chiara! Enjoy we look forward to it!

  6. Good luck, everyone!

Okey, we’re doing spokespersons. The Swedish spokesperson will be Max von Sydow in his Judge Dredd suit.
