ETSC 4: Signing Up!

ETSC August 2015ETSC – Every year, the summer is the calm after the storm so it’s the perfect time to resume the highly anticipated the Eurovision Times Song Contest! Each one of you can represent an European country and get to send a song and then vote in a fake Eurovision! Signing up opens tonight!

Each summer, a good number of regular readers stay around for different reasons (they don’t get breaks from work or don’t go on holidays…) but there aren’t much news to keep us going. So the last few years we introduced all sort of games. The Eurovision Times Awards (Fridas) and the Douze Points Trivia Quiz kept us going in 2013 and Fridas have made come-backs the past two years. Last year, a lot of you asked for a fake Eurovision where each one of us would send songs and get to vote. And that was it: the Eurovision Times Song Contest, from then on known as ETSC.

We had three editions, two last year: July 2014 and August 2014, both won by France. The third edition was held last month and was won by Laura by Bat for Lashes from the United-Kingdom, sent by Marc P. To learn more, you can discover our new page dedicated to the contest, with its history, all songs participating and the rankings here. You can also find it by clicking on the “Specials” section of the site, in the top menu in the red box, just under the site’s name. Here’s the logo for ETSC 4:

ETSC August 2015

Poll results:

  • Songs older than 5 years old? (61 votes)
    • No: 51%
    • 8 years: 20%
    • 10 years: 15%
    • Yes: 15%
  • ESC artists? (60 votes)
    • No: 23%
    • Yes: 40%
    • Yes for small countries: 36%
  • NF artists? (58 votes)
    • No: 7%
    • Yes: 86%
    • Yes for small countries: 7%
  • ETSC artists? (56 votes)
    • No: 34%
    • Yes: 48%
    • Yes for small countries: 18%

Rules: for this contest, you need to sign up chosing one European country. Once the country will be confirmed as yours for this edition, you’ll be able to send a song officially from the country by email only and it cannot be more than 5 years old. However, there are no language rules but it’s up to you to consider if other members will be nice or not to your song based on the language… Since it’s an online contest, there are no time limits and the song can be as long as you want, and performed by as many people you want. But it needs to be recent and definitely related to the country you’re representing one way or another. Also, you must make sure the song is available online on youtube or a similar platform so that every one can watch it. Last but not least, as seen in the polls the song can not have taken part in Eurovision or a national final but for the artist we get to a different rule. ESC artists are allowed for “small countries” (debatable which) and NF and ETSC artists are allowed for all. Considering the close results for ESC artists I thought for this edition this was the most senstive approach. In general, everything has to be talked out with me in private. Depending on the number of participants, probably not all countries will be taken again. If we have too many countries participating, we might use semifinals for the first time!

Once everyone has sent its entry, they’ll be revealed on ET and the voting period will be open. You’ll vote by email to me and to make sure my personal votes are fair (and that I don’t change them to the last minute in case it’s a close race), I will email mine to the first voter, whoever that is. Once everyone voted, I will reveal the votes in a dramatic finish and we’ll see which song will be crown our own summer song (August 2015)!

There is no signing up article on ET and the official opening time to select your country for August 2015 is officially… August 1st at midnight CET! You’ll be able to select by emailing me on artemismorgan@hotmail.com only! You can send up to a Top 5 of your favorite countries so that, if you’ve sent your email early enough but your #1 country is already chosen, you get your second pick and so on and so forth.

  1. Well, as far as I know that many people here might be disappointed if the final number of participants is not rounded up to 45, I have decided to try a last shot and I will be representing Bulgaria at ETSC 4, if allowed.

I will send the picked entry later today.

  2. So the only ESC countries who are still looking for a HoD are the 4 M-countries. I barely have Morocco down as an ESC country though because they participated only once, and that was when Israel took a break. That’s not what ESC spirit is all about in my book. Macedonia and Monaco took part at least once, and Mario wanted to pick Monaco again but couldn’t find a suitable song. Therefore, Monaco does not need to feel left behind. Montenegro, on the other hand, has every reason to feel slighted. They have never been in any ETSC or FdlC. :( I tried to find a Montenegrin song for this edition too while browsing Slovakia’s music scene but couldn’t find a good song eligable under the ETSC rules. :(

  3. Hello from sizzling Athens! Typing through my tablet for the moment. Tomorrow i’ll be off to a remote beach (no wifi probably) until late sunday night, so i won’t be around for the songs :(
I’d like to see my postcard too, Morgan, if it’s ready ;)
Btw, when is the draw taking place?

  4. I guess that with 45 songs competing, any result in the top 22 can be called a success. :)

  5. 30 postcards done, 15 to go…

  6. OK, so the Bulgarian entry has been submitted!

    Grretings!

  7. I have been searching Morocco and Tunisia the last days. I found some very urban stuff.

  8. I think I’ve finally got a shortlist of good Spanish songs to possibly send. Now I’ve just got to decide which song to send.

  9. Wow we are at 45 entries ? This is gonna consume much time till I shortlist a top 10 gosh :P

  10. I will not be available once the songs will be revealed (22:00?). As it seems I will join you towards the end.

  11. Off-topic: I just bought Anouk’s Sad Singalong Songs.

It is actually a very good album, and it doesn’t live up to the stereotypes of Eurovision related albums. There are no fillers; it’s a complete artistic statement – a real album in other words.

  12. Oh Morgan could you sent me my postcard when it’s ready :) ?

    Thanks in advance !

  13. Have a nice draw everybody! Goodnight!

  14. I finally sent my entry.

Here’s the song that got 2nd in my shortlist, since I don’t think I’ll ever end up sending it either here or to FdlC.

  15. Good morning😘As Turkish HoD,we spared no expense in pleasing our artist/s 😊
we are currently locating in beautiful Marmaris and sipping our drinks looking at this view!❤️

    image.etstur.com/files/images/hotelsWEB/SELMAR/GEN/750/a%20(54)_750.JPG

It is OK if we dont win,we are already in heaven(a real one😉)

Can’t wait to hear all the songs
    Good luck!

      • Looks very beautiful and very posh. :)

        Good luck Turkey!

        • I know you dont like posh places but we invite our Slovakian friends for some drinks :)

          • Thanks a lot. We are very happy to be invited to such a beautiful place. :) I don’t mind posh places in homeopathic doses … like going out for drinks one night … but all that silly fuss and constant siring (in almost every sentence) starts to get onto my nerves if I have to spend more time there. Still, there are some posh places (without silly fuss and annoying siring) I love, like the Hotel do Chiado in Lisbon or the Hotel Bastion in Zadar. <3

            • I’ve been to this hotel before (for business thus paid nothing LOL)it is very nature friendly and minimalistic…I think you like it…for more info please visit :http://www.dhotel.com.tr/en/images.aspx

LOL I felt like doing business now hahaha

            • The place looks stunningly beautiful and tastefully stylish indeed … but those water sport pictures sort of scare me away. I have a strong dislike for organised (and motorized) fun sport in posh places and have never met a single person enjoying stuff like that whom I found pleasant or interesting company. I’d rather meet people hiking in the Pyrenees or hang out with the kite-surf community of Tarifa. :)
Anyway, the guests are probably my main problem at posh places. I just can’t warm up to them …

            • Ok..We will book the whole hotel and get rid of all water sport activities for you…as we said earlier we spare no expense in pleasing our artists and friends ;) Are we OK now?Are you coming for drinks? :)

            • Yes, we will. Thank you very much. And LOL … banning water sport activities in such a posh place … that’s what I call luxury and extravagance. :) Btw, I love places like that as sightseeing stops more than as a permanent holday base. I sometimes go to very posh places for a coffee or drinks. So inviting us for drinks is just perfect.
We have 35 degrees here again and I have just prepared a delicious fruit salad. :)

            • enjoy your salad dear :*
